To illustrate how things have changed for football, here is an article on Makati's plans to build a new football field. It wasn't too long ago when soccer fields like the Ugarte field were being torn down in Makati for being considered as wasteful use of prime real estate space and there were fewer and fewer areas to play football. I am glad to see that the trend is being reversed and that the city sees the need for them to be built. There is still a need for more but this is a step in the right direction.

MANILA, Philippines -- Expect to see a football field at the heart of Makati's vibrant shopping and business districts before this year ends.
The new area is part of the entertainment district Circuit, a 21-hectare development of the local property giant Ayala Land Inc. It can seat 2,000 people and includes amenities for football players such as lockers, shower areas and changing rooms.
Sticking to the tradition of Ayala Land's lifestyle hubs, it will also feature a variety of shops selling football gear and other sports-related merchandise.
"A FIFA-size football turf by the fourth quarter will be ready to welcome the Azkals as well as football fanatics," Meann Dy, strategic landbank management group head of Ayala Land, told reporters on Wednesday.
Dy added that they are also planning to put up a football school through a partnership with "a world-renowned football team." She did not provide further details.
Aside from a football field, Circuit will also be home to a skate park, which will serve as a venue for international competitions and exhibitions as well as recreational activities.
It will be launched by the third quarter of 2013.
"Here, they can unleash all their creative energy and skill in a safe and contained environment," Dy said of the new skate park.
Formerly the Sta. Ana race track, Circuit is a 20-year project that will include not only sports zones but also a 1,500-seater performing arts theater, a two-hectare open grounds area that can accommodate 20,000 people, an interactive walk, 45,000 square meters of retail areas, a "warehouse community" featuring art galleries, accessory shops and food trucks, hotels, offices and residential developments.
