This was discussed by PFF officials during the recent International Federation of Football Association (FIFA) Assessment of the Philippine Grassroots Program held in Manila. “This is PFF’s response to the 2013 challenge. All the PFAs will be guided in creating its Grassroots Department solely focused in the development of young football players,” Aquilino Pastoral III, PFF national grassroots officer said. The activity is focused on how to further strengthen the Philippine Grassroot Football program "Kasibulan" to insure that it’s on the right track of development. The PFF will make some adjustments in the implementation of its Grassroots program as it goes for the second step in 2013. This will include having to organize tournaments and leagues for the 55,058 players who joined in 2012, while a new challenge will be given to the 8,560 teachers who participated in the previous year. “With the firm support of our President, Mariano Araneta Jr. 2013 the second stage of our Grassroots development program, we want to make sure that it is in the right direction. That is why PFF asked FIFA to assess the current program,” he said. Aside from the new activities planned for 2013, PFF now wants to explore new frontiers of football where it didn't have grassroots activities last year. The PFF also plans to create good links with neighboring international football associations and federations to link up with their grassroots programs. Among those who attended the assessment meeting were FIFA representative Domeka Garamendi from DOKL (Development Office Kuala Lumpur), FIFA grassroots instructor Sam Schweingruber, PFF president Mariano Araneta Jr., general secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes, and technical director Jose Ariston Caslib.*PNA |
