Speaking at the press conference before the start of the 2013 AFF Awards in Pahang, Malaysia, Duli Yang Teramat Mulia Tengku Abdullah ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah, the deputy president of the Football Association of Malaysia and vice-president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) executive committee, revealed that the competition will be jointly hosted again. For PHI, they're submitting to host for 2016 Suzuki Cup. Looks like they deferred their plan.
Now, I think what will happen is there are 2 group with 5 teams each and the top 2 will advance to knockout stage. With this plan, countries who doesn't qualify in past editions may taste to play against strong ASEAN teams in their group.
Hmmmm All ASEAN, Could Australia be included? probably not as Australia likes to participate in EAFF Cup as countries in East Asia is more preferred by Australia as they were in same level of play.

Probably not as Australia likes to participate in EAFF Cup as countries in East Asia are more preferred as they were in same level of play. That's why I don't feel AUS would want to join this tournament given that massive gap between the nations in the ASEAN. I'd probably see two groups - a group with 6 teams and another with 5. But we'll have to wait for the official rules of the 2014 competition, which would be very soon.

that's right, the socceroos are much better matched at the EAFF. about the new format of the AFF Suzuki Cup, the idea of demolishing the qualification phase is much more interesting 'cause this will result to more matches and the countries which are not qualified for the tourney proper by narrow deficits (esp. Timor Leste) can now prove themselves and are now given more exposure to their neighboring MNT.
this is a new dimension for the AFF SC because all new factors will be added ON and OFF the pitch. competition has been raised.

so the AFF can form three groups with four teams each group. but that will still depend if Brunei will be able to play and will not be sanctioned or suspended. Australia is way above all the teams here in Southeast Asia so they would probably field there team B just like what they did in their recent matches like against Guam and Hong Kong

I'm not sure if Thai Fussball is reliable source @thaifussball.com : Australia have become the 12th full member of the AFF and from now on will participate in all AFF competitions including AFF Suzuki Cup.
If this is true, then this is what will happen, we and other ASEAN countries will have a chance to fight against this strong AFC nation. An advantage that this will provide experience for the ASEAN teams. The downside of this, if this is true, is that we'll have a hard time to snatch our first AFF Suzuki Cup trophy as well as other ASEAN nations as we all know Australia is a strong country and has good reputation in football. Well Goodluck for PHI Football onwards!!!

i have read that news regarding the Socceroo's participation in the next edition of the Suzuki cup but i forgot where did i found it. yes that would really give us and our other SEA neighbors a hard time to win the title considering how good this team is

It would, if true, definitely raise the bar of ASEAN football. We.ll have a tough time but the experience is priceless! Well, this is a definite turning point for the tournament! I'm super pleased that the qualifiers are gone. We'll have a longer Suzuki Cup, for one, whether or not we advance to the semi-finals.

Oh, c'mon, Australia? I may presume that they'll send their team B, or a majority from their Under-23s, but I'll be surprised if they call up Mark Schwarzer and their other Europe-based senior players.
Why, if the Azkals field a strong lineup, at least with Müller (or Etheridge), Cagara, Lucena, Mulders, Patiño, and if we're wee bit lucky, Schröcki, who knows, if we are drawn with them in the group stage, we might just see them go for a massive draw or an über shocking upset win. We should remember last year in the Dubai training camp, that we narrowly lost 1-0 against their U-23s with only Etheridge, Ray Jónsson, and Denis Wolf, and with Joshua Beloya who almost scored against them.
A draw or win against them will definitely grab headlines, I tell you, and will be a major-major rankings boost to which SEA team gets to draw or beat a "monster" team like Australia.

The Socceroos would probably use this to blood youngsters (or ALeague based players) to prepare for 2015 Asia Cup. I presume the 2014 AFF Cup will be in the November/December period of 2014, the first game of the 2015 Asia Cup is January 9 2015.

IMO it would be good for ASEAN football if the Socceroos is involved,as it will provide impetus for further football evolution in ASEAN NTs. Thailand gave a good account of themselves on the WC Group stage.
You have to remember that the Socceroos are in a transitional phase at this moment.
