the lack of cohesion was pretty obvious on our side, lots of miscommunication and poor touches. we were very lucky that we beat them and if the Goalkeeper is your MOTM, it clearly says that you're dominated by your opponent. Neil came out very solid making saves after saves. Referee is also very biased

Another historic milestone for the Azkals.
I think the weather had a major impact on the quality of the match. If you have seen much football in the UK, you can immediately recognize the impact that heavy rains have on the quality of the game, everything from micro slips before striking the ball causing it to go astray, to poor passes, to slips and slides all over the field, to mishandling of the ball by the keepers. I think these conditions took away a lot of the finesse we might otherwise have seen from both sides. This was evident by the constant long balls played by both sides. I think our defense did a good job muscling out the HKG forwards, and the weather took away their ability to use speed and finesse to outmaneuver our defense. In better conditions I feel this would have been a completely different game, and I'm not sure which team would have been victorious. However, I feel the game would have been much more entertaining had the conditions been better. Still, HKG tried their hardest to change their game and close the gap, the missed penalty I think took their heart briefly, but the last 10-15 minutes were one long Etheridge highlight reel. That part was amazing as Etheridge made some absolutely amazing saves.

Pinoy fans were complaining of the home crowd's behavior. some of them got hit by the bottles thrown at them and to our players as well. read a tweet "fans shouting F*** Y**, Filipinos! You are slave country!"
poor fans cannot accept defeat. shame on you guys!

its a shame for these fans to act like their buffons, I hope FIFA would suspend HongKong FA to teach their fans a lesson or two on how to be gracious host especially to teams Better than them. sad to see tweets that or fans (mostly women and children) being pelted by plastic bottles and juice drink tetra pack.

I think the philipines fans should not tease us, one of your fans even act as shaking balls to me. It's f***ing disgrace! Learn how to respect others before you wanted to earn other's respect!

Its tit for tat now, this things happen anywhere in the world not just in football, it will pass.
About the match, I was waiting for the Ott brothers to be fielded.

Incredible display of our MOTM Neil, that proved that he's still our #1 GK. Ive seen that we definitely need a young CB,rob needs to be taken out and looks exhausted. JYH was in superb.form lately shifting from RM to RB at the 2nd half, even chieffy was in good form, were now seeing the benefit of UFL in our NT. In a few years time we could now see our youngsters in the UFL improve, and i hope they would be called up for our NT.

hongkongfootball Tweets from fans who watched the game too said Hongkong fans were hostile from the get go even booing the Philippine National anthem. Pinoy fans are generally respectful so your case was an isolated one and may have been provoked by most of the Hongkong fans. It like to see the PFF file a protest then to see the real story. While the Hongkong FA have been gracious host it is apparent that Hongkong fans acted unfriendly likely hosts which is a shame. Was told securities tried to provide safety to Filipino fans (mostly women and children)though.

Welcome, hongkongfootball! To the rest of the regulars, let's be classy in here and show hongkongfootball we're civilized and recognize the futility of arguing with somebody over the internet.
Let's not start another pointless exercise on this forum. Let the PFF, Hong Kong football, the AFC, and FIFA deal with it. I'm sure the issue has already been brought to their attention.
Let's move on, shall we?
-------- IT'S NOT THE WEATHER.
We were terrible. Our inability to string coherent passes in final third stood out in stark contrast to Hong Kong's crisp and fluid passing. True Hong Kong played many long balls but those long balls were deliberate, thought-through, and accurate as there was a pattern and a rhythm to their passing - small zippy passes to break down the middle, followed by runs into space, and then those long balls. Over and over and over.
I don't think the Philippine team has ever shown CONSISTENT passing patterns in an international match. (It's something that is worked out again and again on the training pitch, something Hong Kong has obviously been doing. Our team, always with just a few days to train together, has to depend on organization in defense and individual brilliance on attack. And given the nature of our national squad, I suppose we'll never be able to do passing patterns like Hong Kong is able to.)
So again we can't make the weather that big of an issue. If Hong Kong were able to zip passes like that despite the rain and wet surface then we've got to factor the weather out.
-------- SCHROCK was a nuisance. Not just to the opponents but also to me. His playing style soon got tiresome.
I suppose the coach gave him a lot of creative license but come on my dear man, on key occasions he decided to go for it on his own when he had better options.
Irritating.
--------- MULDERS was disappointing. I suspect he doesn't fit into the formation and would fare better directly in the hole behind strikers but then again, we're not the coach are we? We're armchair analysts and our opinions won't change things.
--------- THE REFEREEING was hideous. But the match is over. The most we could hope for is for the ref to get negative ratings when the AFF reviews his performance.
---------- ETHERIDGE is worth his weight in Yamaa's gold. Aside from one horrendous clearance, he sure put on a masterclass.
----------- So aside from our GK's performance and the entertaining scuffles on (and apparently off) the pitch, it's not a match we can look back with pride.
But then again, a win is a win and you and I will take that anytime.
