Sadly, I don't think any of the Fil-foreign players will be part of this squad. With Ernie gone, I don't know how committed the PFF is in using overseas women players. The only way I see them participating is if the Fil Ams and Fil Euros themselves take the initiative to join the team at their own expense. Sadly with Ernie no longer calling the shots, all talk of having a pro or semi-pro woman's league in the Philippines funded by FIFA, seems to have died out as well. I always thought it would have been hard to pull off anyways at this early stage in the development of football in the Philippines, but without a passionate advocate like Earnie behind the scenes, it would even be harder. Just like the men's and youth teams, our local women players are far behind our SEA counterparts, so I don't expect us to make it past the group stage, but it is a good learning experience for them nonetheless.

I'm torn here. On one hand, I think getting rid of Nierras and his "delusions of grandeur" is the best thing that could have happen to women's football in the Philippines, but on the other hand, it kind of marks the end of the Fil-North American players like Park, Houplin, Shugg, Barnekow, Lee, Cooke, etc., which brought so much promise. I'm one that believes the girls should not be punished for the sins of the coach.
I expect Coach Buda and the local girls to get massacred at the AFF Women's Championships. What the Fil-North American girls brought to the table that the locals don't besides quality and experience is mental toughness.

I agree. Ernie's overoptimistic predictions hastened his downfall, especially since his teams did not live up to the hype. However, I think his teams could have done better with a coach with more experience managing women's teams. Coaching women's teams takes a slightly different approach to that of the men's. He could have hired maybe one of the American women coaches(including possibly some of Filipino heritage) here in the US who are used to training women's soccer teams.

I wish this new regime of the PWNT the best of luck.
I have to be honest, it's tough for me, because myself, Butchie Impelido, and Ralph Taddeo were the ones who brought the Fil-Am/Can player to the program back in 2012/2013.
I can only hope that the PFF don't give up on these girls. I hope they'll be back at some point.
With all that being said, I would like to see the "best" players based in the Philippines come out for the program and test themselves. Both local-based and foreign-based players can co-exist together. There's no need for division or bad blood. We can all learn from each other. After all, in the end we are all after the same thing: To make women's football in the country better.

I forgot to mention that without the tireless scouting and recruitment that you and Butchie have done, we would not have found out about these players. Hopefully we will see them again in the future. I hope that the PFF realizes that the US in terms of depth, is the Brazil of women's soccer, with more international caliber players than any other country in the world. The fact that it is the most popular game for women here in the US, along with its huge population and the numerous athletic college soccer scholarships(more than the men) available to them as a result of the Title IX Civil Rights gender equity law, has brought about a depth in talent in women's soccer, unequaled anywhere else in the world. It would be a shame if we don't tap into that talent since it would be the like men's team ignoring the Fil Germans or the Fil Brits. Besides I think they will help our local players improve as well helping transfer to them what they have learned here as well as serving as inspiration for our young upcoming talent. In the meantime, I wish the best for the current team and hope they do well in future competitions.

The players here are unbelievably talented. They're battle tested. They play "meaningful" games week end and week out.
I will continue to post new PWNT-eligible prospects via the scouting section on this forum.
I'm always willing to help out the PFF. They know where to find me. I've contacted them on many occasions. I've also reached out to coaches Joyce Landagan and Let Dimzon.

Here's a few photo albums from the PWNT Senior Team tryouts that took place over the weekend: * Day 1 - * Day 2 - www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.733539626744943.1073741896.160598930705685&type=3Important Notes* Buda Bautista is the new head coach of the PWNT. Patrice Impelido will be added to the coaching staff. * The players based in the United States have been contacted and I expect a few of them(maybe 5) to head to the Philippines for the training camp in April.

If there was one thing Ernie wasn't lacking, it was confidence. He also had full confidence in the girls. Would people have preferred that he just said "We'll do our best." I would expect more than that. Anyway, water under the bridge now. Let's just hope that PFF will finally give women's football the attention and support it deserves.

Natasha Alquiros has said local players should get preference. The new coach wants local players to get preference. Players should picked according to their talent, not their postal code. In my view local players should work hard at their skills to the point that they get a chance to play overseas for a club or university team. They should be encouraged to play with the best. Does Brazil exclude Marta because she plays in the USA? Canada did not discriminate against Christine Sinclair because she played in the USA. In men's football, I am sure that nobody in Argentina thinks Messi should be excluded from the team because he plays in Spain. Almost all of the best African and South American players are in Europe. When it is time to play for their country they are welcomed with open arms. In the Philippines many say we should shut the door to our best Filipinas. Natasha and others clearly share the view that overseas players are not "real" Filipinas despite their Filipino blood and citizenship. I have also heard the argument that we should not use our best players in international competitions because local players should use the national team and international competitions to develop. That is the job of club teams, not the national team. The purpose of the national team is to win. You put your best players on the pitch based on their talent, not their mailing address. If the PFF does not want to fund transportation costs for our best Filipino citizens to play for their country then just admit it. Don't pander to the xenophobes.

The comment was made by Natasha Alquiros, not Inna Palacios.

My apologies to the captain. As for Natasha... Well she is young and perhaps not accustomed to being quoted. Hopefully everybody will get a lecture on team bonding and negative comments about foreign based players.
