akosiabab, I don't think he's done a good enough coaching job to keep his position. That's all. Go back to my initial post on November 15...I said that he had to prove he could get this team past of the group stage and he failed to do that in all 3 tournaments last year. How can you reward that? With the talent that we have now, the results need to start mattering.

Malditas endure delayed flights home as allegations of fraud rock team management
By Karl Decena, InterAksyon.com The Philippine national women’s football team had a lackluster campaign in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games last December, losing all of its matches to bow out of medal contention.
It was a disappointing result for the Malditas, who were pinning high hopes on their lineup composed of varsity players from the United States with Filipino lineage.
But according to some players, worse things happened outside the pitch. InterAksyon.com learned that some players had troubles getting to the Philippines and going back home due to the numerous delays in their flights, which were booked by Malditas coach Ernie Nierras.
Malditas midfielder Monika Lee shared on Twitter her flight delays back to the United States.
After the SEA Games, all the players went back to Manila, where US-based players boarded a plane going home. Lee left the Philippines on December 22, with layovers in Los Angeles and Miami before landing in Detroit, where her family lives nearby.
But she encountered a problem in the Los Angeles airport where she was barred from continuing her trip.
“And the fiasco CONTINUES. Stuck in LAX #MerryChristmas,” she wrote in a tweet last December 23.
In response to tweets, Lee said that the airport management had issues with the credit card used by Nierras to book her flight. “The credit card Ernie used was reported stolen. So I have no ticket and the agent said I’ll have to purchase my own,” she wrote in response to Malditas teammate Joana Houplin.
“It was news to me! I tried to check in & they told me the card was stolen & the name of the card didn’t match my coaches name,” she wrote in reply to a certain Adam Dury.
To avoid fraud, most airlines often require passengers to present the physical credit card used for booking flights. Cardholders who are not part of the trip, however, still need to present their cards to the ticketing office for verification prior to departure.
Lee’s mother, Nemone, also took to Twitter to share her frustration about the incident.
“I am so done with this! I just want my daughter home!!!! Never again. Hang in there,” she wrote in a tweet to Monika also on December 23.
Nemone eventually bought a ticket that brought her daughter from Los Angeles to Phoenix and finally Detroit. She had some parting shots to Malditas management about the incident.
“It is a mess with the PWNT (Philippine women’s national football team). I will have to tell you about it. She will be home soon! Thank God!” she wrote in response to a certain Mary Tangalos on the same day.
InterAksyon.com tried to reach Monika and Nemone for comment, but they haven’t replied to queries as of posting time.
Not an isolated case
Another member of the Malditas, who opted not to be named, said that she also experienced delays not just on her trip back, but also in her flight to the Philippines.
The SEA Games women’s football competition began in Myanmar last December 10, and she was asked to come to Manila a few days before the tournament.
A varsity player from one of the oldest universities in the US, she was frustrated with the many delays she had to endure just to get to the Philippines. It was earlier agreed that she would fly to Manila from a city in California. Her mother booked a trip for her to fly from school to that city.
But she said that Nierras kept on making last-minute changes to her trip schedule, and even told her that the flight was moved to another city in California.
“I already confirmed with my professors at school my official date to leave, but Coach kept changing it,” she said. “My mom was frustrated because she had to cancel my ticket now.”
But once she was at the airport, authorities prevented her from boarding the plane to Manila allegedly due to issues with the credit card Nierras used to book the trip.
“They wouldn’t validate my ticket unless the credit card holder is there himself to present the card since I didn’t pay myself. My mom called them to see what was wrong and they said they believed the card to be a fraud,” she said.
She informed Nierras about what happened, and the coach booked a flight on the evening on the same day from a different airline. “So I waited six hours ’til then,” she said.
She also experienced delays in her return to the United States, and her difficulty in getting in touch with Nierras about the situation didn’t help. She said that she was supposed to leave Manila last December 22, and the coach promised to give her confirmation about the flight the day before.
But despite numerous attempts, Nierras could not be reached even on the day of her supposed flight, according to the player. Fortunately, she was able to ask for help from someone she knew who happened to work in an airlines company. Her flight was finally scheduled on the evening of the next day.
“I waited and waited and kept contacting him when I had the chance to connect to Wi-Fi but it wasn’t until 4 p.m. where I had (someone) contact him and he said my flight was the 23rd in the evening,” she said.
Boarding the plane with a teammate, she said that her flight was postponed to the day after, further limiting her time to spend holidays with her family.
The Malditas member said that what happened to her was not an isolated incident after learning the experiences of her other teammates.
“There were way too many instances where our flights got changed and/or delayed, or our tickets would be claimed to be fraud,” she said.
Usage of fraudulent credit cards in transactions is punishable under Republic Act No. 8484, or the Access Devices Regulation Act of 1998, with penalties ranging from a fine of at least P10,000 to imprisonment of six to 20 years.
Nierras defends himself
Nierras defended himself against the allegations that fraudulent credit cards were used to book tickets, saying it was not him who arranged the trips.
“I did not book the flight. This was booked by a travel agent,” Nierras said. “Unfortunately the player tweeted that I used a stolen card. The travel agency is still looking into the cause of the cancellation of the players’ flight.”
Nierras added that he and his group are already looking into the issue. He declined to give more details about the incident, including the name of the travel agency concerned, so as to not preempt their investigation.
A known active user of social media, Nierras also explained why he remained silent about the incident.
“Addressing it is just making something out of nothing,” Nierras said. “I cannot disclose any more information until our investigation is done.”
He believes that the issue is being used by critics as a demolition job against him.
“There is a group of people doing this to discredit me,” Nierras said.
Black mark
Amid the investigation, the issue is already leaving a black mark on the reputation of the national team.
Playing for the squad is definitely an honor, said the same Malditas member who refused to be named. But after the incident, she’s already having second thoughts about joining the squad again.
“I am still not sure if I will return if given the chance. Each time I visit I sacrifice much more than I need to. It’s either I sacrifice my grades, or spending time with my family,” she said.
“I hardly see them already and I would have had the chance to spend an extra couple of weeks with my family winter break, but had barely made it home in time for Christmas, and now have a week left before leaving for school again.
“I’d truly do anything to play for our country, yet sometimes it’s just asking for too much in return.”

Here's Eric Dimzon's one-on-one interview with Nierras. Try not to laugh hahaha.
Yes, definitely. Our aim was to make it to the finals. We were basing it on our performance in the AFC. We knew that if we performed the way we did in AFC, we could get into the finals.
Once you get into the finals, anything can happen. So, we were totally disappointed.
As head coach, the buck stops with me. At the end of the day, whatever happens, it was my system, it was my plan and everything that failed.
That’s nothing new. They like to criticize but offer no solution. If you as them for their solution, nothing. They have the right to criticize and personally attack me but it is only the PFF president who can remove me from my position as head coach.
I only ask my critics and detractors to look at what we have achieved the entire year and not only one tournament.
There were no players who backed out. It was because of injuries. We had three players who got injured. One of them was (Inna) Palacios who injured her ankle.
Then one player, her mother passed away. There were no players who backed out because our selection is based on our pool. If you look at the lineup we had in AFC, it was the same in the SEAG. ‘Yung pool natin sa AFC, 23.
‘Yung sa SEAG, 20. So we had to take out 3 players. Tapos ‘yung dalawa injured and one whose mother died. That makes a total of 6 players.
It does not interfere with our training. We train 6-8 in the morning. I don’t think any of our sponsors are open at six o’clock in the morning. And we have another practice at 5 p.m.
So anything in between, we meet with our sponsors and other people. It is funny because one group says that ang dami kong training. ‘Yung isang grupo naman kulang ang training. Either way, may sinasabi sila.
Parati namang ganyan. Sanay na ako.
Pagkatapos naman SEAG, kumalat sa social media that there were Fil-Am players who got stuck at various airports. Totoo ba ito?
No, it is not true. There was only one who got stuck at the airport. That’s Monica Lee. Two were stuck here in Manila because PAL cancelled their flight. So PAL had to put them up in a hotel.
As for Monica Lee, it was her US domestic flight, for whatever reason, that got messed up. The travel agent is still looking at what really happened.
Monica was more specific in saying that I bought her ticket using a stolen credit card. I don’t use stolen credit cards. And in the first place, I was not the one who booked her flight. I’m the head coach not the travel agent.
We haven’t even received the billing from the travel agent yet.

Malditas endure delayed flights home as allegations of fraud rock team management
By Karl Decena, InterAksyon.com
Really? Nierras is having himself investigated? Is he going to have himself arrested and put in jail too? With all those last minute purchases and cancellations of airline tickets, it is so obvious of what's going on. It's either he must be rolling on money and don't know what to do about it, that he kept purchasing last minute tickets for the players and then canceling and rebooking them for some reason, which everyone knows cost an arm and a leg just paying those booking change fees. Or... Nierras and his cohorts getting those tickets on a scam close to the flight schedule, using stolen credit cards to avoid detection (less time frame for airline to double check for fraud). And if it so happens airline catches the fraud, the ticket gets voided and then Nierras just use another card, and another, until he finds one that goes undetected. Ergo, we had these players not knowing their travel itinerary until the day or two, and at times if they were unlucky, got told on their faces they were holding a fraudulently bought tickets and get stuck for hours at the airport. I think Monika didn't have problem with her ticket until she got to American soil is because aIrlines in the US has a more sophisticated way of screening for credit card fraud. I cannot believe he is still denying of any wrong doing when these tickets passed through his hands and given to the players by himself, even if he contends he didn't book them. Whichever way he is guilty, and the least he can do is resign and leave the PWNST alone or the PFF should just fire him.

spacesocaPlayaX makes several reasoned thoughtful points about the need for a change in coaching for the Malditas. Nierras himself has mused that another coach might be necessary to take the team to a higher level. Soccerfairplay. It is not obvious to me at all that stolen and fraudulent credit cards were used. I have had my credit card questioned and not honored in a foreign country until I contacted VISA to tell them I was travelling. The fact that a credit card company is concerned is not proof of fraud. I am not saying that everything was appropriate but I haven't seen anything yet which substantiates your allegations of flagrant criminal activity. I am assuming you may know more than I do but it is a big leap to go from problems with a VISA card to allegations of fraud and credit card theft. My sympathies to all those who had to endure the frustration.

I totally agree that Coach Nierras should be out of the Malditas. Not because of all the controversy that brought up but for the improvement of Malditas. Coach Nierras must be very stressed not only he is Managing 2 teams, he also dealing with controversies. He should go out and manage Stallion full time, and hire a foreign coach for the Malditas.

The PFF has really failed in its way of creating a system of development for pinay football with in the philippines also. The whole coach Nierras scandal and also results of late and yet there to be no action on PFF part shows a lack of professionalism within the PFF towards the womens code the lack even for a basic womens league shows this aswell.Womens football is the fastest growing part of the code worldwide. The PFF needs to take this into account, set a structure for the game, and get rid of Coach Nierras and start fresh hopefully with a coach who may have the qualifications to be a techincal director of womens football also.By the who is the womens Technical director?

Stolen credit cards ‘used for Malditas’ US tickets’
By Cedelf P. Tupas Philippine Daily Inquirer MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is looking into allegations that “stolen credit cards” were used to purchase airline tickets of members of the United States-based members of the national women’s team. The players were later barred from boarding their flights in Manila following their Southeast Asian Games campaign. A parent of one of the players, Tom Lee, has filed a complaint with the PFF, saying the incident had happened in several occasions, most recently last December when her daughter Monika was preparing to board her flight back to the US. “I know this is a serious allegation and should not be taken lightly,” said Lee in a letter-complaint, an e-mailed copy of which was obtained by the Inquirer. Lee said explanations given by airline counters were either the “ticket was not authorized” or the “ticket was purchased using a ‘reported’ credit card,” prompting the players to buy their own tickets. Malditas’ head coach Ernie Nierras said he will comment on the allegation as soon as he receives a copy of the complaint. But PFF National Teams Committee chair Dan Palami urged the federation to dig deeper into the allegations. “This is a serious allegation which could affect the performance of the team and the reputation of Philippine football,” said Palami. sports.inquirer.net/143026/stolen-credit-cards-used-for-malditas-us-tickets
