THE Department of Youth and Sports yesterday announced that it will be holding nation-wide trials to select Under-21 players to represent the country at next year’s 2014 Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy.
Open to the public, the trials for the regional meet - of which its date is yet to be confirmed - kicks off at the Tutong Sports Complex on Friday and will run from 8-11am.
The Balapan Track & Field at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex in Berakas will host the Brunei-Muara try-out on Saturday at 7pm.
The Mumong Sports Complex will be the venue for the Belait district trials from 2-6pm on Sunday while the Temburong Sports Complex will host the Temburong district trials from 3-6pm on Monday.
Interested footballers must be either Brunei citizens or permanent residents and must bring their identity cards with them to the trials.
The team’s manager Hj Feisal Hj Eusoff can be contacted at 8776655 for further details.
Hosts Brunei are the tournament’s defending champions after beating Indonesia 2-0 in 2012.

In my opinion, they should leave the age group tournaments to age group qualified players. For the senior team, they should always choose the best players regardless of where they came from, but for the age group level teams especially the younger age group national teams, they should emphasize developing homegrown players with the addition of a few really good players(preferably those with professional experience) from abroad during the actual tournaments.
These amateur level guys who think they can just step into the national team, should try to prove their mettle first in the UFL or some other professional league. There are so many interested players from all over the world now, many with professional experience, that they now have the luxury of choosing only the best.

Thailand U-19 2-0 Philippines U-21
As I said before, we still have aways to go when even our U-21 team which include several senior players(like De Jong, Sato, Daniels, Aguinaldo, Deyto, Dizon, Porteria) can't even defeat a younger team from other neighboring SEA nations.

I think even Thai u-16 can defeat us if we don't really give importance on our grassroots programs. This is just Thai under U-19 but they prepared very well and they even had a friendly game as a preparation for this competition against UD ALMERA and thats a team from LALIGA SPAIN.

^^Kailan ba nagsimula sumikat ang Azkals? I think 2010, do you think may substantial effect kaagad ang grassroots program ng PFF? Masyado mataas ang standard mo, give at least our U-21 allowance, papunta palang tayo ang thailan d nakarating na..

Yes its 2010 sumikat ang azkals but 2014 na kailan ba sila mag start?....u-12,u-14 nag regroup lang before the competition at pagkatapos wala na agad and PFF are like this just regroup before the competition nasaan ang program? Look at other countries how they develop their grassroots program. And the question is KAILAN TAYO MAG START?
