Well, I was only able to watch the 2nd half, but I saw the Philippines dominate most of the possession and the chances on goal in that half including some that came close. It was a respectable result against a higher ranked(FIFA # 95) UEFA team with 7 or 8 of the usual Azkal starters still missing. Overall, another good performance under Dooley.
Both friendlies served their purpose as the players were introduced to a different system under Dooley and new capable players were added to the mix, including Rota, Steuble and Deyto who all played well.

yes replacing misagh changed things, favorite of saint palami I agree, hoping that Schrock and Manny Ott will man the LM and RM position and Mike Ott for phil. I think Phil had fitness problem..

Cohesion and conditioning are our points of improvement. Hope there are 2 to 3 more friendlies in April to prep up the team.

The Philippines played better than I have ever seen them play. I don't care about the loss. They looked great. What to improve, in my opinion? Fitness. And Tactics up front. Honestly, though, I felt Azerbaijan wasn't that dangerous a team. If it weren't for their size and bulk we probably would have beaten them. I hope Christaens' injury isn't serious. He did well tonight. I thought Hartmann should have come in earlier to replace Phil. Yeah the team need to get a couple more friendlies together before the Challenge Cup. And some wins. I can't even remember the last time we scored a goal anymore. :/

For the Azeris, height matters, for us, speed BTW. If we lose or draw today Vietnam will dethrone us as SEA's number 1 in FIFA Rankings. Well it doesn't matter, it's better to see a better performance than the rankings. Hopefully that'll change after the Challenge Cup.

the last time the team scored a goal was in india. too bad it wasn't televised.
phil is a real trooper. after enduring that ankle, he still have the drive to win this game. sayang nga lang. also, suddenly, i missed the YH connections. the seemingly emphatic connection between the two that gives us the goal.

I wonder if the loss will lull our Challenge Cup opponents into a false sense of security. The score doesn't tell the story of the match at all.

I think Phil had fitness problem.. thanks! yeah mike ott with his future bundesliga training, heard he's moving to nurnburg at the end of season... hope somebody tells the coaching staff that the misagh-palami connection is already hurting the team we had a lot of options rather than misagh i swear... well, weiss decision not putting mike ott on the pitch in the hk game is another thing... that boy is a gem for our national team

I watched the second half only but could tell immediately that this was the new-look Azkals. On first watching the game couldn't tell which team was what and assumed the blue team was Azerbaijan since the passes were more crisp, the positioning more disciplined, and the teamwork had confidence. To my surprise that was the Azkals! I could not find the reckless attacking, a signature of the old team. Schrock is still all over the place and can be reckless, but if he's head and shoulders above the rest and with a tenacious winning attitude that's what will happen. I'm curious to see how Dooley handles him. He did create that chance towards the end of the game so giving him free rein has advantages.
Azerbaijan stayed back most of the 2nd half and relied on counter attacks since they wanted to protect their one goal lead. And it worked. The Azkals could not take advantage of the space given. There were some good chances though few if any good shots on goal.
Overall the playing was positive, was an improvement, and I'm optimistic of the way things will go in the next few weeks and months. The Dooley era is here.
