Afghanistan National Football Team players' bus got into an accident in Maldives today. The incident occurred as the team was returning from their game against Laos. The motorcycle accompanying the two buses of players, slipped, and resulted one bus to hit a vehicle in the front and another bus to hit the first bus. None of the buses flipped. Islamuddin Amiri's leg has been slightly injured while Mustafa Azadzoy' waist has been seriously injured. Yousuf Kargar, Afghanistan National Football Team's coach is reported to be injured as well. Injured players have been transported to the hospital. More details to follow. www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/14980-football-team-players-injured-in-maldives

brimstone, I am not sure why you seem to worry a lot with Aguinaldo being used by Dooley in the match against Laos. Nothing bad happened with respect to the result of the game. Meaning Dooley was right in his choice and let's trust him. He knows what he is doing for he will be responsible first and foremost whatever is the outcome of the campaign. Let's try to look at the bright side of things.... This is the difference between someone like you and me!! You only seem to care about the result/outcome and if it's favorable, how we got said result, you just basically sweep under the rug. In this case, it's Aguinaldo's shaky (to say the least) performance which I will reiterate, could've easily cost us!! Yes we got the result and a clean sheet but it doesn't mean Dooley was right or wrong, it's more that he was lucky! As I've said, if this was Weiss, I'm damn sure the rakes, machetes and what have you will all be out and it would've been deemed a poor decision. But because it's Dooley, it's seen as nothing out of the ordinary!

With all these injuries to Afghanistan, Palestine will be favored to make the finals. Palestine is just as tall and physical as Afghanistan, and I am not sure if the Afghan coach in the group stage Rutemoller(who was provided by the German fed), will still be available. Afghan coach Kargar was supposed to take over in the semis after serving his 3 game suspension.

Post on the Afghan team:
"This is a serious problem for the Afghan team. They were supposed to fly to Male last night, and they could not. Azadzoy is still in the hospital and four other players are in doubt to be able to play for the semi-final if it is held on May 27th.
AFF has already asked for rescheduling of the match. The result will be known today."

I agree, though some comments from people in the Maldives say that the injuries weren't too serious and that their local media is sensationalizing the accident. I hope the injuries aren't too bad and that we'll be treated to a good match between Afghanistan and Palestine. Should be a good one.

It is possible some of the injured players were placed under observation by the hospital they went to and forbidden to fly so soon after the mishap even though most of them were eventually released.

Got it. Thanks for the update! Nevertheless, I think they'll be competitive against Palestine. They're both good teams. But yeah, big, unfortunate blow for Afghanistan.
