Last May, Dennis Cagara flied to Palestine to play for the Azkals and leaves temporarily his club which is fighting for promotion. Kaboom!!! Coach Dooley preferred the youngster Sato over the veteran Cagara, that is maybe the reason of his premature return to his mother club.. He flew to Maldives, not Palestine, and his return date to his club was arranged before the tournament, if I'm not mistaken. But I can see how he would feel insulted by Sato's selection over him. I took it as player rotation. You saw how Cagara played against Laos? He was horrible. Sato deserved to start in his place. I have always liked Cagara, but he needs to show he deserves the nod to start.

Must be a cryptic parable from Dooley that is misheard and misunderstood by Shrock and Cagara. then again... i dunno.

i'm pretty sure it's "...people from Europe, FILIPINO FOREIGNERS, or whatever." misplaced comma. now it should make sense.

Backtrack Weiss era: local players are almost ignored. Use all the foreign based players regardless of their fitness and chemistry. Result: locals showed displeasure Today w/ Dooley: focuses on team chemistry and fitness. Used local players (which he always have in trainings) effectively. Resulting to foreign based players given limited playing time. Result: real primadonas "resign"
Why fire a coach that gives you good results? Just because these "good players" aren't given the playing time they wanted? I'm cool with the first known reason that schrock will focus on his new club, but when the real reason surfaced, kinda turned off. Less respect. This is a team of 11. I'm good with the system and the locals running the show.

there's always a reason why the federation logo is in right chest area of the football jersey. puso para sa isang team. that's what binds them.
and the lest we can do as fans is to let the management sort this things out.

As I said, this runs a lot deeper than what we think. This is not just 1-2 players criticizing about the coach. There are a lot more that are not voicing their discontent with Dooley publicly. People think that its childish for Schrock to publicly criticize Dooley, but personally, I think it takes a lot of balls to do what he did.

Schrock has a point as I explained earlier. Cagara obtained his release from his club which was in the middle of a promotion drive with the understanding that he was going to be a vital cog in the Challenge Cup campaign, only to be largely sidelined in the Maldives. Many of the former European trained regulars like Manny Ott, Angel Guirado, Carli de Murga were never called up during training camp for either the Challenge or Peace Cup and given a chance to show what they can do. I haven't even heard of any invitation to Mike Ott to join the team. Many of these players relocated to the Philippines, possibly with a lesser paycheck because of their desire to play for the national team and they have largely been ignored. I agree that they shouldn't be given automatic places on the team just because they came from abroad, but they should also have been given a legitimate chance to prove themselves in the team.
As I mentioned in another post, many of these players have never been seen by Dooley, so I understand why he stuck with the players he was most familiar with during his training camps for the Challenge Cup. But when the roster for the Peace Cup was released, again none of these players(including those now plying their trade in the UFL) were invited which is showing a definite trend. Again, it is possible that Dooley was given instructions by team management to emphasize using the younger and domestic based players, but the result is dissatisfaction from our European trained players who feel that their sacrifices are being ignored.
As for the PFF and team management concerns, unfortunately there are also legitimate concerns like travel arrangements being arranged at the last minute, resulting in players arriving just before the game, which leads to jet lagged and fatigued players. There is also the lack of advance planning when arranging friendlies, travel documents being misplaced, the numerous commitments that they have to participate in(many of which of course is to help promote the team to the general public and is necessary for the Azkal's success), etc.
I think many of these concerns can be alleviated, if lines of communication was established and all the players would be promised an equal opportunity to prove what they can do in future training camps. But at the same time, it should be made clear to them that they need to make themselves available during training camps(esp. those during FIFA match dates) so Dooley can see what they can do, in order to be considered and that Dooley has the final say depending upon their performance during those camps and at their respective clubs.
I think Dooley has done a great job so far(he has demonstrated an exemplary work ethic, is very diligent in his scouting, very organized in preparing the team for games, and has a very good reputation here in the US as an accomplished teacher of the sport which will help our young players develop) during his short stay in the Philippines and I think it would be a great loss for the Philippine football program if we let him go, but many of Schrock's concerns are legitimate and perhaps can be addressed if lines of communication can be established.

BTW, to those who think Dennis Cagara doesn't deserve his place on the team, I would like to remind you that Dennnis has played at the highest level in the German Bundesliga and the Danish Superliga and has been on every Danish youth team from u-16 to U-21, competing in many different European age group tournaments. Sato is a good player, and has the potential to be a long time contributor to the team, but compared to Cagara's professional accomplishments, he doesn't really deserve to supplant him at this time. Sato have never been called up for any of Japan's youth teams while Dennis has and Denmark has a higher rating than Japan in the Fifa rankings.

I agree that better communication is needed with all the parties involved. I think all Cagara wanted was to receive a personal word from Dooley, and perhaps some assurance of future selection, regarding his non-selection in the upcoming training camp. There's the argument on whether or not a national team player should feel entitled to all that though. How can a foreign-based player get selected by Dooley now if he's (rightfully) focusing on the UFL? International standouts like Schröck do still get invited, but what about others?

A place on the national team should never be guaranteed Caz, but I think it would be reasonable to give these players every opportunity to prove themselves especially those like Cagara who have played at the highest level.

Philippines Team Manager Dan Palami has accepted the decision of Stephan Schrock to 'resign' from the national team but still harbours hope that the Germany-based midfielder might reconsider with the forthcoming AFF Championship on the horizon. Despite carrying a hamstring injury Schrock (pictured) played a key role in the Philippines' runners-up finish at the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup and is seen as an influential figure in an Azkals squad that has blended overseas, foreign-born Filipinos with an increasing pool of local talent from the burgeoning United Football League. Philippines media initially reported that Schrock's decision was taken to allow him to concentrate on club duties at German lower league side SpVgg Greuther Furth but the 27-year-old former Eintracht Frankfurt player took to social media to say that it was based on a falling out with head coach Thomas Dooley. "It is unfortunate that he has made that decision. Stephan is an important player of the team and he will be missed in the Phil Peace Cup and the Suzuki Cup," Philstar.com quoted Palami as saying. "We are still hoping he reconsiders his decision. In the meantime, we continue on the direction based on the belief that we should put emphasis on building and organizing a strong team and not just assemble a group of good players." www.the-afc.com/en/member-associations/asean/philippine-football-fed-news/29096-palami-pragmatic-over-schrock-announcement.htmlI doubt that many of our European based players will be released for such minor tournaments like the Suzuki Cup or the Peace Cup anyway, so the loss of Schrock and Cagara at this time is not really that important. Hopefully everything will be straightened out by the time WC qualifying starts next year when we will really need them and their clubs will be obligated to release them.
