Dooley taps German asst coach
By Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) | Updated August 14, 2014 - 12:00am MANILA, Philippines - Azkals coach Thomas Dooley has tapped German Sebastian Stache to assist him in whipping the Pinoy booters into shape for their next international sorties like the Philippine Peace Cup and the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup. Stache, 34, played for TSV Emmelshausen and TuS Argenthal, before serving as Youth Coordinator at the prestigious German Club Alemannia Aachen. He got his coaching diploma at the German Sports Academy in Cologne then came in as assistant coach at former first league club 1 FC Homburg. “I’ve known him for years. He’s somebody who does a lot of behind-the -scenes work, analyzing games and his knowledge is great,” Dooley said. “For me, what’s important is he studied sports science. Today, it’s important that you’re 100 percent fit on game time so that’s something you really have to study and he did it. So he’s an asset for us,” he added. 100 percent fitness is an OLD fashioned statement. Theres a lot of top class players out there even they are not 100 percent fit they can still play, its a matter of managing those kind of players. Sayang yung mga pinoy assistants na nagserve ng dekada sa team.
For sure azkals ang magiging training ground nitong si stache

hat3trick, although we acknowledge the pinoy assistant coaches for their years of service, football in the country, especially the national team has significantly improved. the qualifications of those pinoy coaches (as I have read in other posts) are not at par now with what we need and where we want to go. PFF wants MNT coaches including assistants to have AFC A coaching license or equivalent, which the previous local assistants did not have, or probably still do not have.

The study of sports science and sports physiology is actually very important in traditionally successful sports countries. Australia, which only has a population of 24 million, still manages to reap many medals in sports events like the Olympics, because of their study and use of such subjects. I, myself, have taken several courses in exercise physiology and other similar subjects and can vouch for their effectiveness in the training of athletes, which I have seen in many sports. That is why I was recommending that one of the Fil Australian rugby players who is also a coach at the Australian Institute of Sports, should be hired by sports bodies in the Philippines to start a similar educational institution in the Philippines, and help educate Philippine coaches in these fields. For those who are interested and would like to see what sports science is all about, there is currently an ongoing basic exercise physiology course given by a Professor at the U of Melbourne, Mark Hargreaves, available for free on an educational website on coursera that you can take and review. www.coursera.org/course/exphysHere is the course syllabus: Week One: Review of excitation-contraction coupling in skeletal muscle, muscle fibre types, energetics and muscle adaptations to exercise training. Week Two: The key fuels by contracting skeletal muscle during high intensity sprint exercise through to prolonged endurance exercise. Week Three: Cardiovascular and respiratory responses to exercise that ensure adequate oxygen delivery to contracting skeletal muscle and the determinants of maximal oxygen uptake. Week Four: Temperature and fluid balance during exercise. Week Five: Mechanisms of fatigue during exercise and interactions between the central nervous system and peripheral factors. Factors influencing sprint and endurance performance. Week Six: How do genes influence athletic performance - are athletes "born or made?" It is probably too late to get a certificate on Coursera for this course which started on July 21 and is ending on Sept 15, but you can still watch the videos and try the exams on your own. For those who don't have a healthcare or biological science background, it is recommended that you take an introductory human physiology course first, which is also available in the same website which starts on Sept. 1st: www.coursera.org/course/humanphysio

Here is Stache giving instructions during the first day of Azkal's training: For some reason, I was expecting him to be sporting a mustache, because of his last name, but the beginnings of one as well as a beard is close enough. Looks like a confused looking Chieffy Caligdong, has wrangled an invitation to the camp.

Cjeagle, You are a Physical Therapist? Wow thats cool.. Because you can also cover all of these matters, right?
This is a plus for Stache, He can apply this during Strength and Conditioning. Maybe that is the reason why those three coaches were dropped before or disregarded Because Dooley is looking for a Friend or a person that can level up the Endurance and Agility of azkals.
I Wish I was just wrong by saying azkals will be the training ground of Stache.

hattrick,
Nope, I was just interested in exercise physiology because I participated in long distance running events as well as played numerous sports. For more developed football teams elsewhere, it is normal for the coach to bring their own assistants with them, who they can trade ideas with as well as delegate scouting and training duties to. Acc. to Dooley, Stache seems to be good at analyzing games, which means he could send him to scout other teams personally, as well as analyze video tapes to probe for weaknesses in prospective opponents.

Interesting to see Chieffy in the tryouts. I know he has a mixed bag of fans and detractors, but what this tells me is that the staff is really open to review our talents and give everyone a fair chance to crack the final line-up. That's very encouraging for our UFL players.

Regarding Stache's name, I hope Bob pronounces it closer to what it should sound like. He butchers Steuble's name during Azkal matches.
I'm not a fan of Chieffy's passing but his defense has been better than what people say after 2011 and he's still the #2 goal scoring NT player after PYh. It's undeniable his nose for the ball. I still remember the 2012 Suzuki Cup, 1-2 punch at left wing with Angel and Chieffy...

Parang bumabawi sila mukhang kulang na lang hakutin na lahat ni dooley ang mga beterano sa team, ngayon lunukin nya lahat ang sinabi niya dati na magfocus siya sa mga batang azkals. Effective yung pagiyak nung ibang players. Anyway, credits to the newly appointed assistant coach mukhang maayos naman.
