SM to expand Mall of AsiaMANILA—SM Prime Holdings has earmarked as much as P1.5 billion to redevelop Mall of Asia, which will expand its selling area by about a third and become the country’s first shopping mall with a football field on its roofdeck. The upgrading of Mall of Asia is part of SM Prime’s medium-term expansion program. ... The expanded Mall of Asia is expected to open to the public by 2017. Apart from adding one new floor to expand leasable space in the currently two-level mall, SM Prime plans to construct a football field on the fourth level. Asked whether SM Prime would make money from having the football stadium, Lim said, “It’s really providing a venue,” adding that once constructed, “there won’t be a lot of operating cost.” Lim said the football component of Mall of Asia was an “afterthought.” The popularity of football in the country has increased in recent years. business.inquirer.net/182344/sm-to-expand-mall-of-asia

i'm sure that'll be the NU football team's training grounds.
as i see it, the sy owned university is trying to make a name for itself and gain prestige (and rightly so) by developing a superb athletic legacy

We are already in the future.

Let's just hope that the private companies do their thing I mean if a government agency were to handle something similar, then we all know what's going to happen...........

Actually I'm hoping this will turn out to be a good alternative to PSS kahit less capacity.

Can the mall roof handle it? remember, the structure is floating on the waters of Manila bay, Mall + Stadia on top is something new for its foundation despite the advancement in engineering. Its just too convenient to say that we are in the future, you just have to look at what's in reality.

If the capacity is at least 15,000, then this would be a good alternative to the Rizal Memorial Stadium. I read that the are plans to eventually sell the entire Rizal Memorial Complex to DLSU ...

An architect’s perspective and aerial view of the expanded SM Mall of Asia. -- SM SUPERMALLS SM to build football pitch on Mall of Asia roofdeck THE SM GROUP is expanding the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) to include a football pitch on the shopping mall’s roofdeck. SM Supermalls Senior Vice-president Steven Tan said SM Prime Holdings President Hans T. Sy had wanted the mall, which is currently being redeveloped, to have a “wow” factor. “Mr. Sy didn’t just want to expand the mall without giving a reason to the people. He said, ‘if there was going to be an expansion, we have to ensure the success of the mall’,” Mr. Tan was quoted as saying in a statement. The football pitch, designed by Miami-based firm Arquitectonica, is touted as the MOA’s new “wow” factor. The field’s size will conform to the standards for World Cup matches set by the sport’s world governing body FIFA. bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Corporate&title=sm-to-build-football-pitch-on-mall-of-asia-roofdeck&id=128135
