Technically, the pots are not set until FIFA announces the rankings and AFC announces the pots. AFC may have heard from an FA that is no longer willing to host games. Someone could've bribed FIFA (who would think....) to increase the ratings. Point is, the above are NOT the official pots until announced. Having said that, this is the group I would fear the most: Japan, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Korea DPR, Malaysia This is the group I'd like to see them in: Iraq, Vietnam, Philippines, Bhutan, Guam Tough traveling: Uzbekistan, Syria, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Yemen Significant Pinoy away-crowd, OFWs: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong True it is not official, although the AFC itself has occasionally made errors in its calculations in the past based on its own rules, which Edgar pointed out to them and they ended up correcting their rankings. If all the new additions become part of the team, and gel in time, I am hopeful we can make round 3, assuming we get a favorable draw, like the easy group you mentioned. Oh, please. Do you have any clue how the Azkals do not make Round Three? They would have to resort to 2005 form and get blasted in every match they play in. You know, something like going 0-0-8 and being outscored 52-1. You and I both know that it will not happen. And, even if it did, only four teams get eliminated in this round.

You are probably referring to the Asian Cup qualifying while I am more interested in the WC. Here are the rules for making round three of AFC WC qualifying: "Second round: A total of 40 teams (teams ranked 1–34 and six first round winners) will be divided into eight groups of five teams to play home-and-away round-robin matches. The eight group winners and the four best group runners-up will advance to the third round of FIFA World Cup qualification as well as qualify for the 2019 AFC Asian Cup finals." It depends on which teams you get in your group. The Philippines has to at least be one of 4 best runner ups among all the groups to advance. Not that easy at all considering some of the teams we will be facing from pot 2. If we somehow get N Korea from pot 4, the road will be even tougher. Only 12 teams will make round three.

cnnphilippines.com/sports/2015/04/13/football-philippine-azkals-palami-world-cup-draw.html"We really want to do better than the last time. We're also excited to see who we will be facing against. You just hope that somehow the draw will be in our favor, and will allow us to get to the next round," said Palami. The last time the Philippines participated in the World Cup qualifiers was in 2011, where the Azkals defeated Sri Lanka in the first round of the competition before eventually falling to Kuwait. In order to bolster their bid for a ticket to the World Cup, Palami brought in some new recruits to line up alongside the likes of the Phil and James Younghusband and Stephan Schrock. "I'm excited to see the players who will be composing the final line up and see how they will play with the new system that coach Dooley is trying to implement," added Palami. These new players will be working under the watchful eye of Philippine team coach and ex-United States international Thomas Dooley, who has been experimenting with a new system in order to bring out the best in his players. "I'm sure you'll see new faces. Some of them are processing their passports already. By the time we announce the list, there will be players who haven't played for us before and who will be playing for us in these qualifiers," Palami concluded. The Azkals will start their campaign for a spot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup at home on June 11.

Philippines are in group H. Tough draw, although Pot 1 and Pot 2 could have been a lot worse. They are possibly the two toughest teams that could have been given from Pot 4 and 5 though.
GROUP H: Uzbekistan (Pot 1) Bahrain (Pot 2) Philippines (Pot 3) North Korea (Pot 4) Yemen (Pot 5)

This is a tough group, although not surprising given the pots. Getting N. Korea was unlucky -- the toughest one in that pot. In terms of traveling this ranks high.

I was hoping for a favorable draw and got the group of death. It will be very difficult to be among the top 4 runner ups after this round, as even the 4th and 5th seeded teams in the group will be competitive and hard to score on. North Korea especially is the worst team we could have drawn among the lower seeds. Group A: UAE, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Timor-Leste and Malaysia. Group B: Australia, Jordan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh. Group C: China, Qatar, Maldives, Bhutan and Hong Kong. Group D: IR Iran, Oman, India, Turkmenistan and Guam. Group F: Iraq, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia and Chinese-Taipei. Group G: Korea Republic, Kuwait, Lebanon, Myanmar and Laos. Group H: Uzbekistan, Bahrain, Philippines, DPR Korea and Yemen. I think it will be the first time the Philippines will be playing Uzbekistan and Yemen. I presume Yemen will not be hosting games because of the civil war currently going on, so we will probably play them somewhere in the Middle East for our away game.

The Philippine national men’s football team on Tuesday was drawn with some of Asia’s toughest squads for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that will begin in June. The 139th-ranked Azkals are grouped with Uzbekistan (73rd), Bahrain (108th), North Korea (157th) and Yemen (170th) in Group H during the draw conducted Tuesday in Malaysia. The Azkals aren’t strangers to most of the squads in their group. They already faced Bahrain twice, with one yielding an impressive nil-nil draw in 2012 before succumbing to a 2-1 loss just last March 31. The Filipinos also faced North Korea during the 2012 Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup which they lost, 2-nil, while also bowing to Uzbekistan’s Olympic side, 3-nil, in a friendly on the same year. Unlike in the past, the 2018 World Cup qualifiers will now also serve as a path for to the 2019 Asian Cup. The eight group winners and the four best-placed squads are guaranteed of spots in the final round of the World Cup qualifiers as well as the Asian Cup which will then be expanded to 24 teams. The squads who failed to make it through to the next round of World Cup qualifiers will then will slug it out for the remaining spots in the Asian Cup. The Azkals will playing their first match of the qualifiers in June and will run until March of 2016. They are expected to have at least four home matches during the course of the round-robin competition. www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/azkals-drawn-with-uzbekistan-bahrain-north-korea-yemen-in-fifa-world-cup-qualifiers

All the best for the Azkals!
