Hikaru Minegishi is 23 years old and, like Global Azkal Daisuke Sato, is a product of the youth system of J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds. He was also a part of the Sendai University team, which has a very good reputation in Japan. Minegishi’s mom is from Olongapo, and Manson loves his ability to feed strikers in dangerous places. He did just that in the semifinal win against Ceres with an assist for Mark Hartmann’s clinching extra time goal in the 3-1 win. “He’s a quick, very technical player, and his first touch is very good,” explains Manson. The Scottish gaffer is also in awe of his work ethic. “There’s no need to motivate him in training,” he adds. Facebook Page

Saw him playing for Global against Ceres last weekend. Good pace and a very shifty player. He teamed up with Sato on the left side to pressure the Ceres defense.

Azkals-Kyrgyzstan preview: Fitness a concern The team is working on conditioning as a new player comes in to boost squad Bob Guerrero Foremost was the presence of midfielder Hikaru “Pika” Minegishi in the squad. The wide player from Global, son of a Japanese father and Filipina mother, recently bagged the Golden Ball award in the UFL as its best player. Minegishi, 25, is getting his Filipino passport sorted out, and he says it will be in his hands within the next few days. That will allow him to finally play for the Azkals, probably in the Suzuki Cup. He has not made the Kyrgyzstan squad, perhaps because his passport is still being processed. “I like his speed and work ethic,” gushes Dooley. “He is very unpredictable and keeps defenders busy.” Minegishi has struck 20 times for Global in his two years with the club. Dooley praised Minegishi's off-the-ball movement to his face after training, saying his off-the-ball runs “would be a big help” to the side in its upcoming games. Minegishi, who was developed in the Sendai University football team, can play on either wing, meaning he will compete for playing time with the likes of Iain Ramsay, James Younghusband, and perhaps even Stephan Schrӧck on the flanks. www.rappler.com/sports/by-sport/football/151400-azkals-kyrgyzstan-preview-fitness-concern

I don't know why it took him this long to secure a Philippine Passport, if heas been here since early last year Global FC management and PFF could have advised him before to secure his Philippine passport in order for him to be eligible to play for the Azkals? does the Japan allows dual Citizenship? or they need to drop their Japan Citizenship if they are going to apply for another citizenship?

I understand that's the main reason it took him so long to finally give up his Jap citizenship as that country won't allow dual citizenship. Just like the other Fil-Jap Satoshi Otomo who I think never gave up his Jap citizenship thus creating citizenship issues for Global FC. But finally he is on board and that is a positive development him being the UFL's currrent "MVP".
