Kitchee 1-0 Kaya FC The goal that Kitchee scored against Kaya was a PK which was apparently controversial with a HK publication describing it as dubious. www.scmp.com/sport/hong-kong...s-issue-kitchee-ease-past-minnows-kaya-fc-afcKaya coach Joel Villarino was not happy with the referee. “Both teams played well, but Kitchee got the penalty. It was a ‘home decision’ by the referee,” said the coach.

Selangor held to draw by Ceres La Salle in AFC Cup opener Selangor striker Patrick Wleh Selangor and their Liberian striker Patrick Wleh secured a hard fought draw in their AFC Cup opener. Ceres La Salle and Selangor were both satisfied after an entertaining 2-2 draw in the opening match of Group E in the 2016 AFC Cup at the Panaad Stadium in the Philippines on Tuesday. Selangor had been second best to the hosts in Bacalod City for much of the game. But they came away with a point while Ceres -- making their debut in the tournament -- needed a late header from Adrian Gallardo to avoid an undeserved defeat against the Malaysians. Ceres started as brightly as their all-yellow kit and put Selangor under pressure. New signing Stephan Schrock showed some of his former Bundesliga class by helping the hosts to control midfield as well as send an ambitious 35-yard shot over the bar after 10 minutes. The breakthrough came shortly after and it was no surprise when it came from Schrock. The German-born star picked up the ball just outside the area and, despite close attentions from the Malaysian defence, let fly with a low shot that was helped into the net by the diving Norazlan Razali. Somehow, Selangor drew level just after the half-hour with one of the biggest goalkeeping errors this tournament has ever witnessed. Michael Casas was caught dawdling in possession just outside the six-yard box in the 34th minute. His eventual clearance was charged down by Olivi and despite his desperate efforts, the ball bounced off the debutant and rolled agonisingly over the line. It took the wind out of the hosts' sails and it was only in the second half that Ceres recovered their earlier energy and aggression. There was a let off for the visitors just before the hour. Bienvenido Maranon bundled the ball into the Malaysian net but the late flag went up for a very marginal offside. And then within seconds, Selangor were ahead in spectacular fashion. The visitors were given a free-kick just to the left of the 'D' and there was Hafiz Kamal to lift the ball over the wall and into the top corner of the net. Ceres were stunned though almost got back on level terms 10 minutes later. A Patrick Reichelt long ball confused Azriq Nasrulhaq and there was Gallardo but the Spanish striker's shot bounced off the shoulder of Norazlan. With 15 minutes remaining, Schrock was in the thick of the action once again. He squared the ball across the face of goal for fellow Philippines international Manny Ott to shoot just wide from a good position. The pressure continued and so did the chances. With 10 minutes remaining, after good work from Reichelt on the right, Maranon should have done better than shoot tamely at the busy Selangor shot stopper. With six minutes left, Ceres provided their equaliser. Schrock sent over a perfect looping cross from the left and there was Gallardo climbing above Raimi Mohd Nor to head into the roof of the net to give the Filipinos the point they deserved. www.espnfc.com/malaysian-super-league/story/2810673/afc-cup-selangor-held-in-philippinesSchrock proving his worth to the team. Now if they can only get a better performance from the goaltender, they might actually get a better result next time.

It seems that the Ceres-Selangor match in the Philippines had one of the better attendances of the 1st day of the group stage of the 2016 AFC Cup with 8,000 in attendance and the best in the East Zone. Tampine Rovers only had 2,300 and Kitchee approximately 2000. Because of the early start New Radiant was only able to attract 900 fans. Great show of support from the Ceres fans!

True, but considering the attendance(averaging in the low hundreds) in UFL games(which is also free) in Metro Manila, where the population base is much bigger than the whole of the Western Visayas and Negros combined, this is quite impressive.

I agree that there are a lot more Football fans in Bacolod. So when are they going to put up at least one Artificial Turf out there?

Ceres FC Coach Ali Go is very much aware of the challenge ahead of their AFC Cup clash with Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi. The Bangladeshi-squad slipped up against Tampines Rovers, leaking in four goals and scoring none in their first AFC Cup match away in Singapore. The former Azkal has done his homework for the match and expects a strong performance from the hosts. “Its not gonna be an easy game. They lost to Tampines 4-0 but i think they just made key mistakes. I scouted their team they have at least five to six good players who can really play. The foreign players are very good. We have to play our best to win that game.” said Go. Go has been preparing for Lt. Sheikh Jamal after securing the top spot in their second-to-the-last game in the UFL cup allowing the Ceres coach some flexibility in their last game against Global. “I rested a few players from the last game just to make sure that some of our players are gonna be fit, but we’ll see. I think some of our players are also a little bit tired and injured and also we have only two training sessions before the game. We have a nine hour flight to Bangladesh but hopefully everyone could recover and then we have to play one hundred percent to win this game against Bangladesh (Sheikh Jamal)” he added. The 2015 UFL League champions will travel over the weekend to Dhaka, Bangladesh to play in their first away game in AFC’s second tier tournament. ceresfootball.com/go-wary-of-bangladesh-challenge/

Kaya FC will be playing in their first ever home game in the AFC Cup at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Tuesday (March 8) against Maldives' New Radiant SC. New Radiant coach Iordan Stoykov insisted that the Filipino club are the favorites of their group despite being the debutants of the competition. "I'm thinking that Kaya is the best team in the group," said Stoykov. "We have to show our best efforts to resist them and to achieve the acceptable result." But according to Philippine national team and Kaya midfielder OJ Porteria, the UFL club has yet to live up to such high praise. "I have confidence in our team, in our coaching staff, and our management," he said. "We need to prove ourselves." Kaya marked their maiden match in the AFC Cup with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Hong Kong's Kitchee SC, and will look for a more positive result moving forward. "We're very confident, but we also have respect for each and everyone in our group," said Porteria. "There's no game in the AFC that will be easy for us, so we will approach it like every other game." "Just like [we did with] Kitchee, we will approach New Radiant and Balestier [the same way] as well." cnnphilippines.com/sports/2016/03/07/AFC-Cup-Kaya-Porteria-prove-themselves.html

Porteria is also looking forward to a change in scenery after enduring a fiery atmosphere in Hong Kong against Kitchee. “The support of the Philippine fans [will be the biggest difference],” said OJ. “It’s our home game so we have to perform to the best of our abilities. I think we had a great match in Hong Kong and we’re just going to use that momentum against New Radiant and hopefully we’ll get the win.” According to coach Joel, the tempo of the match will be a major component to deciding the outcome. “The key factor is speed,” said coach Villarino. ” I think we will just stick to the plan. What happened there in Hong Kong was a good game. We will adjust a little more in our transitions from defense to attack and vice versa, and our speed.” Tomorrow’s game at the Rizal Memorial Stadium will be aired LIVE on ABS CBN Sports+Action, with kickoff between Kaya FC and New Radiant scheduled at 7:30pm. football.com.ph/confident-kaya-excited-play-front-home-crowd/complete article in above link

Kaya and Ceres need to build on good showing MADE a good account of themselves in their initial foray in the 2016 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup despite not coming up with a win a fortnight ago, Philippine clubs Kaya FC and Ceres-La Salle FC must take cue from their spirited debut showing as they take the field anew today in their respective groupings, a local analyst said. Kaya FC takes on Maldives side New Radiant SC today at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in an AFC Cup Group F fixture. -- Kaya FC Facebook account Kaya returns home and hosts Maldives side New Radiant SC in a Group F encounter at 7:30 p.m. at the Rizal Memorial Stadium just as Ceres plays in Bangladesh to play Sheik Jamal Dhanmondi Club Ltd. in their Group E fixture at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Defending United Footbal League (UFL) Cup champion Kaya put up a tough stand in its first-ever AFC Cup game against Kitchee FC in Hong Kong before bowing, 1-0, while Ceres, the UFL Division 1 champ, salvaged a 2-2 draw as time wound up against Malaysian side Selangor FC in Bacolod City on Feb. 23. Seeing how the local teams performed in their first assignments, football analyst Ryan Fenix is upbeat of their chances heading into today’s games. “Both Kaya and Ceres executed their game plans to perfection the first time out. Ceres was unlucky not to come away with a win and Kaya gave a good account of themselves away to Kitchee in Hong Kong,” said Mr. Fenix, who is the resident football analyst of Interaksyon.com and author of the column Rampaging Fullback in an interview with BusinessWorld. “You’d want to do well on Tuesday, naturally. Kaya would want to build on the momentum of the good performance in Hong Kong. Playing at home, it hopes to be buoyed by the Ultras Kaya (as its supporters are known). Ceres, spending as much as it did in the offseason, wants to qualify for the next round and it can take steps to that this Tuesday,” he further said as he laid down the scenarios for the two teams today. GOOD SHOWING Playing in its first-ever AFC Cup, Kaya stood its ground despite eventually ending on the raw side of its opener with Kitchee. It stood toe-to-toe three-fourths of the way with the home side until Kitchee, which reached the quarterfinal round of the tournament last year, broke through at the 69th minute with Spaniard Rufino Segovia on the firing end for what turned out to be the winning goal. Ceres, for its part, dug deep to hold Malaysian side Selangor to a 2-2 draw in front of its hometown fans at Panaad Stadium. New acquisition Stephan Schrock (18’) put his team on the scoreboard early but Adrian Gallardo saved the day for the team when he scored the leveler at the 87th minute to put the game at a stalemate. Kaya’s opponent today, New Radiant, drew 2-2 against Singapore’s Balestier Khalsa FC in its first game while that of Ceres, Sheikh Jamal, was trounced, 4-0, by Singaporean side Tampines Rovers FC. Asked how he sees Kaya and Ceres doing for the rest of the group stage of the tournament, Mr. Fenix said the clubs are in a good position to go deep, especially that conditions have been made “favorable” for them by the local league they are playing in. “For sure, they have a good chance to get out of the group. The UFL has certainly accommodated them by scheduling Thursday games for both and clearing the March schedule,” the analyst said. In the AFC Cup group stage, teams play in a round robin of home and away games with the top two from the eight groups advancing to the round of 16. www.bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Sports&title=kaya-and-ceres-need-to-build-on-good-showing&id=124126
