Game day! New Radiant vs. Kaya at 5:00 p.m. (MVT). You can watch it live on Fox Sports 2 at 8:00 p.m. (PHT).
Male: Kaya FC may be within touching distance of a first-ever place in the last 16 of the AFC Cup but coach Joel Villarino is not taking anything for granted ahead of his team’s final Group F game against last-placed side New Radiant on Tuesday.
The Filipino club are in second place in the group, a point behind leaders Hong Kong's Kitchee and two ahead of Singapore's Balestier Khalsa, but with their rivals meeting each each other in Tuesday's other tie a victory in the Maldives would assure the debutants a place in the knockout rounds.
But while New Radiant have already been eliminated from the competition, the Kaya coach remains wary of the Dhivehi Premier League champions.
“We are fully prepared for this game based on the performance of our first meeting with New Radiant. It was a lucky win for us, so we have to be careful tomorrow,” said Villarino (pictured), whose team needed a stoppage time winner from OJ Porteria to defeat New Radiant on Matchday Two.
"It will be an important game for us and I will say a must-win game to qualify for the second round.
"We won't know the result of the other game when we face New Radiant so we will fight for a win. The pressure is definitely on us."
Porteria will, however, be suspended for the trip to New Radiant, as will Ghanaian defender Alfred Osei.
Despite securing draws at home to Balestier and away to Kitchee, New Radiant have been unable to repeat their 2013 efforts, when they reached the quarter-finals, but coach Iordan Stoykov insists his side will be playing for pride at Male National Stadium.
"We will fight for a win tomorrow. We played very well in the first match against them and only one defensive mistake cost us the game, so we will see what will happen tomorrow," said the Bulgarian.
"They must win the game tomorrow to qualify for the second round and they have pressure but of course I believe that we can win the game."
