Ceres ran riot on hapless Hanoi, goes top of Group G By Kevin Estrada Ceres Negros overtook a listless, 10-man Hanoi side to the top of Group G, and they did it in a merciless fashion, beating the Vietnamese side to the pulp in their return fixture Wednesday night in Bacolod's Panaad. Knowing that a win in their final home match will keep their hopes of progression alive, the Busmen went straight at their top gear and put the visitors into an easy hit and run target, with their aggressive attacking put them to sleep with a 6-2 win and snagged the group lead on goal difference, tying their victims at 8 points. The Spanish strike partnership of Bienvenido Marañón (13' pen., 90') and Fernando Rodríguez (53', 69') produce four goals between then, with each bagging a brace for Risto Vidakovic's men with Kevin Ingreso (21') and Jason De Jong (87') chipped in a goal apiece in a total team effort. Hanoi had a rough night against a hostile 8,366-strong Panaad crowd, with Pham Thanh Luong's 25th minute free kick and Do Hung Dung's 86th minute penalty were quickly negated by their hotheadedness, as they end the match shorthanded as substitute Hoang Vu Samson saw red for his violent conduct, after headbutting Super Herrera and punching Kota Kawase in a commotion. The rout, along with Tampines Rover's 3-1 win away at FELDA United, puts the group in a wide open race heading into the final matchday two weeks from now. www.dugout.ph/2017/04/ceres-ran-riot-on-hapless-hanoi-goes-top-group.html

Global Cebu inching closer to AFC Cup KO stage, sweeps Magwe on a second half fightback By Kevin Estrada Reigning Philippine champions Global Cebu have put one foot into the AFC Cup knockout stage after coming from a goal down to sweep Magwe in a hot Yangon afternoon today (early evening Manila time). After being behind against the run of play in the 38th minute thru Kyaw Naing Naing, the Queen City outfit went on a rampaging second half en route to retain their Group F leadership with a 4-2 win in their penultimate group stage tie, despite Johor Darul Ta'zim recording a comfortable 3-0 win away at already eliminated Boeung Ket Angkor later in the evening. Toshiaki Imai's men went on a twenty-minute scoring spree to complete the double on the Aung San Shield holders that inched them closer to the ASEAN semifinal round, with Trinidadian forward Daryl Roberts bagging a quickfire brace on both feet to put the game away for their fourth win. After Hikaru Minegishi equalized in the 71th minute, Roberts' left boot from a Minegishi feed shove them ahead in the 81st minute, then put the result beyond doubt just two minutes later with his right foot. Shu Sasaki then made it 4-1 Global a minute before full time before Nai Ling Tun pulled the consolation in the fourth added minute of full time. www.dugout.ph/2017/04/ceres-ran-riot-on-hapless-hanoi-goes-top-group.html

How will Ceres fare this time at JBS, they have seem to play poorly on away games (3 nil loss to Felda and that draw against Hanoi), a loss or a draw in Singapore might give Hanoi spot in zonal semifinals.

ROTA READY TO GO ALL OUT VS TAMPINES Simone Rota is known to be one of the toughest defenders to ever play for the Philippines. So when he acknowledges his clubs upcoming game as a tough challenge, everyone should take heed. His club Ceres-Negros FC will face Tampines Rovers in a do-or-die match away in Singapore. “Sure, it will be very hard,” said the veteran player on match against the S.League squad. “Because in our group, every team can pass to the next round. So everybody has to win. We have to play smart, play very strong, and defend strong against Tampines,” Rota added. The muti-positional defensive player has fully recovered from his ACL operation from last year and is keen to play his first game for his new club. When asked on what is expected from him when is name is called, “(I will give) everything, like before for Stallion. I mean, I am 100 percent fit but you know its a long time that since I played. So maybe my 100 percent may be 20 percent. But i am positive.” The Bacolod squad needs a win to book its place inthe AFC Cup ASEAN Zone semifinals. Anything less than a win is elimination. With the difficulty of an away game at hand, Rota has faith in their ability to progress. “I believe that we can pass the group. It depends on us. We are a strong team and we showed that we can do that, so everything depends on us.” The Tampines-Ceres match will be played on May 3 in the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore with the live telecast shown in Fox Sports 3. ceresfootball.com/rota-ready-to-go-all-out-vstampines/

Groups F and G coming to a boil in AFC Cup 2017 ASEAN Zone / May 01 2017 /
Kuala Lumpur: It’s do or die in Groups F and G of the 2017 AFC Cup on Wednesday with top spot in both tables still up for grabs, while Group H will play out on Tuesday with Home United having already secured pole position and a place in the next round.
The three ASEAN Zone group winners and the highest-placed runner-up will advance to the Zonal Semi-finals and, with the final group match almost upon us, the stakes couldn’t be higher ahead of what is sure to be a pulsating week of action on the continent.
Group H
Yadanarbon and Than Quang Ninh will bring the three-team Group H to a close on Tuesday having seen Singapore’s Home United already claim top spot following three wins from four.
Myanmar’s Yadanarbon began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Home United but have since lost both their games on the road to make a place in the Zonal semi-finals increasingly unlikely. For the visit of Than Quang Ninh, the hosts are also without suspended trio Ye Ko Oo, Yan Paing and Thet Naing.
Vietnamese visitors Than Quang Ninh, who will welcome Mac Hong Quan back from suspension, began their tournament with a draw against Yadanarbon but then slumped to successive defeats to Home United and prop up the standings on just a solitary point.
Yadanarbon (MYA) v Than Quang Ninh (VIE) Venue: Mandalar Thiri Stadium, Mandalay Kick-off: May 2, 17:00 UTC+6:30
Group F
Global FC of the Philippines and 2015 AFC Cup winners Johor Darul Ta’zim of Malaysia will battle it out for top spot in Group F as they take on already eliminated Beoungket Angkor of Cambodia and Myanmar’s Magwe FC respectively.
The scenario for Global is simple, defeat Beoungket at home and they will qualify for the Zonal semi-finals as group winners, but they will have to do so without the suspended Matthew Hartmann. The visitors, unable to call on the suspended Math Yamoin, can look back on a respectable debut campaign in which they gained a first-ever victory in the competition and need just a point to ensure third place.
Should Global fail to win, Johor would leapfrog them by claiming all three points against Magwe thanks to a superior head-to-head record against the Philippines side. But lose at home and the current best-placed runners-up in the ASEAN Zone would likely see that slip from their grasp. Amirulhadi Zainal’s booking against Beoungket keeps him out, while Htoo Htoo Aung and Muang Muang Soe are suspended for the visitors, who have Micheal Alloysius available once more.
Global FC (PHI) v Beoungket Angkor (CAM) Venue: Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, Manila Kick-off: May 3, 20:35 UTC+8
Johor Darul Ta’zim (MAS) v Magwe FC (MYA) Venue: Stadium Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Yunos, Johor Baru Kick-off: May 3, 20:35 UTC+8
Group G
All four teams in Group G can still claim a top-two position as table-toppers Ceres Negros, Hanoi FC and Tampines Rovers all aim for top spot and bottom side Felda United have second place in their sights in a night that promises to keep mathematicians on their toes.
Group leaders Ceres of the Philippines will advance to the Zonal Semi-finals should they win away at Singapore’s Tampines Rovers, who would claim pole position if a home victory is coupled with Hanoi losing to Felda. Manuel Herrera is suspended for Ceres but Martin Steuble returns for the crunch tie.
Vietnam’s Hanoi host Malaysia’s Felda knowing that they will win the group should they better the result of Ceres, while Felda would leapfrog their opponents with a win and claim second place – and potentially a place in the Zonal Semi-finals – should Tampines fail to beat Ceres. The home side must make do without Hoang Vu Samson after his red card against Ceres two weeks ago, while Shukor Adan sits out for the visitors.
Hanoi FC (VIE) v Felda United (MAS) Venue: My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi Kick-off: May 3, 18:30 UTC+7
Tampines Rovers (SIN) v Ceres Negros (PHI) Venue: Jalan Besar Stadium, Singapore Kick-off: May 3, 19:30 UTC+8

I'm glad they didnt put a salary cap for the new league. Neither global nor ceres wouldve made it past group stages if they distributed the players throughout the league.
