its definitely a downgrade in my opinion. its stupid how PFF just gets rid of him after he took the azkals to the Asian Cup. I won't be surprised if this bites the azkals in the end. The azkals had better game play under TD than anyone who held that position by far.

I am also disappointed knowing that Coach TD won't be our coach anymore knowing he guided our team for the past 4 years and transformed our playing style, but on the brighter side, Andrew Ord has a lot of positive credentials based on paper. I hope it translates in to the field when he coach our national team.

The azkals had better game play under TD than anyone who held that position by far. Ord is known to be a capable analyst of the game and his work in TPL and under Schaeffer in the Thailand NT is meritorious. According to a Fox Sports article, he was instrumental in discovering the potential of several young players like Chanathip Songkrasin and Ghanaian international Gilbert Komsoon. Compared to Dooley, he has more experience out of the field and (of course) in SEA football, having worked in Thailand (under Schaeffer and now-Fulham coach Jokanovic), Australia, and Myanmar. But he's more of an academy coach, someone who's better in the youth program and I think aside from the coaching cred, PFF is eyeing him for that. Ord is not really a downgrade but considering what TD has done for the Azkals (despite some frustrations), it's not good to put him (TD) out of the race yet. But then obviously PFF think we deserve better and they think Ord is better.

Don't know much about Ord, but based on the postings here and what I've read of his experience in wikipedia, he doesn't seem like much of an upgrade, if that even, to Dooley. At least doesn't seem like a downgrade either.
I don't feel that Gier is quite ready yet.
We have to remember that the mission is to take the Azkals to the next level. That means consistently going to the finals of the Suzuki Cup, that means getting a ranking in the 90s or 80s. Are the folks in the shortlist able to do that?

As per wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Ord), Ord has left Air Force in the Thai League 1 on 5 June 2018 despite guiding the team to only 2 matches since April 2018. Looks like a clear indication that he is going somewhere. Guess PFF has already made the decision. I am not very optimistic with him as Azkals coach, but as a fan as Azkals I will support (but not blindly ) whoever is in the helm. Good luck Coach Ord! Update: My mistake. It looks like out of 9 matches with Air Force, Ord won only one and drew one. A bad record. Was he released or did he resign because he has another job offer? Not sure now but it seems that he will be Azkals' next coach.

As it appears that Ord has some kind of inside knowledge of the Thai players and probably their NT, I guess one of the questions during this interview with the PFF was: Can we beat Thailand? How?
So, if we win against Thailand and eventually win the upcoming Suzuki Cup, this will be a confirmation that PFF made the right decision. Let's hope so. There's nothing much that can be done if PFF has already made the decision. We all want the best for the Azkals.

About Dooley guiding Azkals to its first Asian Cup, this could be attributed partly to Dooley, but also partly to the expansion of the Asian Cup, accepting more teams.

Aside from Ord, could it be Paco Jemez or Scott Cooper? Based on the rumors circulating around one of the shortlisted coach has been Javier Patino's coach.

No matter who becomes the Azkals gaffer, it sets a bad precedent. "Be successful and be rewarded with a pink slip". McMenemy and Dooley both worked wonders with the Azkals. What did they get? Canned! Dooley had the winningest record in Azkals history. Now he is gone. It is sad that Dooley is aiming low with Singapore. He should be going after upper level Asian slots, or the USMNT. It is really a bad day for football in the Philippines.

Is Terry Butcher the rumored coach? He played in the world cup with England.

It's The Sun so there's a chance that this isn't totally true. PFF will be making a big mistake picking him over anyone who has a bit of experience in Asian football.

Former Rangers FC captain and English national football team centerback Terence "Terry" Ian Butcher has been listed as one of the options to replace Thomas Dooley as head coach of the Philippine Azkals head. "He has been considered," Azkals manager Dan Palami told Rappler following a report by The Scottish Sun that Butcher is headed to the Philippines to take over the national team. The Philippine Azkals will formally name on Thursday, June 14, the new head coach who will be tasked to lead the nationals in the 2018 Suzuki Cup and the 2019 Asian Cup. In his 10-year professional playing career, Butcher appeared in 3 editions of the FIFA World Cup. He also won 77 caps and scored 3 goals throughout his international stint. Butcher was one of the 5 defenders who attempted to hold off Argentina legend Diego Maradona's "goal of the century" in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. The 59-year-old managed clubs in England, Scotland, Australia and Wales, but was sacked 5 times. www.rappler.com/sports/by-sport/football/204878-terry-butcher-considered-philippine-azkals-head-coachI guess we will find out tomorrow.

The Sun? It's good for picking up asong kalye poop. That's it. They're like a broken clock -- correct for only twice a day.
Funny that they refer to Dooley as an ex-Leverkusen defender. I guess they don't think that captain of the US national team counts for much.
