Don't look now, but the PABA may well be going the PFF route... getting the services of Filipinos based abroad to reinforce the PHI team for the World Baseball Classics qualifiers. basing on Manila Bulletin's Jonas Terrado's twitter timeline (@jonastsinelas) - PABA sec gen Tom Navasero: We have 28 players for the World Baseball Classic qualifiers in New Taipei City on Nov 14-18
- Navasero said they got Fil-Ams from several MLB teams like the Giants, Yankees. Lineup to be announced on Nov 7
- Navasero said PH batters have 80% chance to win but biggest threat is Taiwan
- Tom Navasero said announcement of Tim Lincecum on whether he will join the PH team for WBC will be this week
- Tom Navasero said that Yankees reliever Clay Rapada @pada5something will not play for the PH team in the WBC qualifiers
- Tom Navasero said Tim Lincecum decision will be a personal one. Giants gave PH permission to invite Lincecum
- Tom Navasero said Thailand has invited half Thai Johnny Damon of the Indians to play
- WBC allows participating teams to field players with mixed blood. Deadline for submission of rosters is Nov 7
- PH team also got the services of pitcher Ogawa from the Japan leagues. He has Pinoy blood
- 14 Fil-Foreigners mostly with American blood will reinforce the Philippine baseball team in the WBC qualifiers set Nov. 15-18 in Taiwan
seeing Tim Lincecum's name is "WOW"! I'm not keeping my hopes up that he'd play for us though given that, from what I've read somewhere, he's estranged with his mother.

Catch the Philippine National Baseball Team as they will play for World Baseball Classic Qualifiers this Nov 14-18, 2012 in New Taipei City in Taiwan. If we qualify, then we'll head to San Francisco for 2013 World Baseball Classic in March next year. Good luck

Fil-Am powered PH team to compete in World Baseball tiltBy TJ Manotoc, ABS-CBN News Posted at 11/07/2012 10:28 PM | Updated as of 11/07/2012 10:28 PM MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine men's baseball team is in the thick of preparations for their first foray in the World Baseball Classic to be held in Taiwan next week. The World Baseball Classic is considered to be the “World Cup of baseball” and the Philippines will be bringing with them the confidence and experience from being champions in the Southeast Asian Games and the East Asia games. But now the Philippine team is bolstered for the first time by the best Filipino-American players in the world playing in the US major and minor leagues. Among the Fil-Ams are Geno Espinelli of the minor league team of San Francisco Giants, Edwin Jimenez and Jonathan Laygo of the Fresno White Sox, Andrez Vasquez of Rutger University, William Ireton of East LA Dodgers, Devon Bryce Ramirez of California State-Dominguez, and Ryan Pineda of Stockton Ports. There are a total of 11 Fil-Ams, one Fil-Japanese and 16 homegrown Pinoys in the Philippine team. The team admits that even if they have done well in the region, going up to the world games is an even bigger challenge. “We're very lucky to have 13 or 14 players from the US join our national team to compete in Taiwan next week… sad to say we lost few top players, I should mention (Tim) Lincecum, which is a star in San Francisco Giants, and Clay Rapada who's gonna get married on game day. But Lincecum was allowed by the Giants, so it's up to him. If we win in Taiwan, then he can join the team in the next round,” said Tom Navasero, head of delegation of the Philippine men's squad. Even if the Fil-Am reinforcements and the locals have not met, the chemistry is not a major issue in baseball. “On the field strategy and physical play of the game, chemistry may not be as important, but it still needs a team and thank God we're all Filipino,” said Navasero. For the veterans, playing alongside the world's best players will be huge break already. “Noong malamang naming may World Baseball Cup, nag-start ng kami everyday, work hard everyday sa gym… malaking bagay pero mas malaki ‘yung competition. Lalo na 'yung pag-pili ng player, kaya talagang nag-practice lahat,” said pitcher Darwin dela Calzada of the Philippine men's baseball team. Some of the Fil-Ams are just so proud to be able to represent the country. “I just graduated in college in the US, I heard that there was an opportunity to play here on the World Baseball Classic… my mother is Filipina, my grandfather played here back when he played for up, just to be standing here where he once played is a great experience for me,” said second baseman Ireton. In the first round of the qualifiers, the Philippines will face New Zealand, Thailand and host Taiwan. The winner of the group advances to the next round. The Philippine Amateur Baseball Association is also hoping the attention the World Baseball Classic gets will help uplift the popularity of the sport in the country, considering it was the country's top sport in the pre-war era when the Philippines even hosted the New York Yankees with Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. After conquering Southeast Asia, the Philippine men's baseball team is now setting their sights on the biggest stage in the World Baseball Classic. Its goal is not only to win games or the title but also the hearts of Pinoys for a game that millions loved decades ago. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/11/07/12/fil-am-powered-ph-team-compete-world-baseball-tilt

u can only have 9 players in the batting rotation. then you have the pinch hitters to sub in. indeed only 9 batters, they can use pitchers for the batting sequence as a sub, but only Javate had a good RBI records in compare to the other pitcher that have a low or has no data on the batting. anyways maybe they have a contingency plan for that. and hopefully our amatuer can crack the pitching prowess of the taiwaness, though pangilinan and laygo had a decent batting average in the amateur let just cross finger they give a homerun.

PHL Team Bats for Slot in World Baseball Classic By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Sat, 10 Nov 2012 MANILA (PNA) -- A 28-player Philippine baseball team, 12 of them Fil-Americans, leaves today for Taipei to take part in the World Baseball Classics qualifying tournament scheduled November . Only 16 players and seven officials are departing though, according delegation head Tom Navasero during Friday’ SCOOP Sa Kamayan session, as the 12 Fil-Ams, the largest non-local born reinforcements to have been chosen to beef up a national team in any sport, will be joining their teammates in Taipei coming from the different parts of the United States. Heading today’s departure, Navasero said during the session, sponsored by Powerade, AKTV and FILA, are team manager Marty Eizmendi, liason officer Relipe Remollo and coaches Kunifumi Itakura, Wilfredo Hidalgo Jr. and Roel Empacis. Fil-Am players who made it to the team are Ryuya Ogawa, Geno Espeneli, Max Javate, Alec Rosales, Devon Bryce Ramirez, Chad Nacapoy, Andres Vasquez, Leighton Pangilinan, William Ireton, Jonathan Laygo, Edwin Jimenez and Ryan Pineda, all chosen from the Major Baseball League as well as collegiate campaigners in the U.S. They, according to Navasero, son of baseball association president Hector Navasero, were recommended by the sponsoring World Baseball Classics. “Teams participating in the WBC are not actually representing their countries.” Navasero said by way of defending the selection. The WBC is a tournament to promote and develop baseball globally that’s why foreign players, Fil-Ams as in the case of the Philippines, are allowed to play for the country of their roots.” Local born players are Darwin Dela Calzada, Jon Jon Robels, Ernesto Binarao, Charlie Labrador, Vladimir de Guia, Romeo Jasmin Jr., Joseph Orillana, Carlos Alberto Munoz, Rommel Rojha, Ruben Angeles, Jennald Pareja, Francis Candela, Jonash Ponce and Saxon Omandac. Never had a national team in any sport brought that many non-pure Filipinos in any Philippine participation in international competition, thus, depriving local talents, some of whom are mainstays of previous national squads that were victorious in the Southeast Asian Games. The selection drew flaks from several sectors of the local baseball community, especially because of the inclusion of four players who seldom attend the series tryouts held under the supervision of the coaching staff and whose only credentials are they are related to delegation officials. One team member has long been retired, while another was chose as member of the bullpen catching staff even if he never played the position all his life. Two never attended a single tryout session at all, claimed those disgruntled members of local baseball community. Left in the selection of the team composition were Jennifer Penero, acknowledged as one of the best hitters in the country today and 12-time member of the national team; Fong Rances, 10-time member of the national team; Marvin Malig, two-time UAAP MVP; and SEA Games gold medalists Phedo Olivarez, Justin Zialcita and Christian Galedo. philboxing.com/news/story-76914.htmlIt looks like that there are a few undeserving local players on this team.

The player with the most pedigree will be Geno Espinelli. He played for the San Francisco Giants and played Triple A this year. His record was also not certainly bad. Next will be Ryuga Ogawa who played for Chunichi Dragons in the Nippon Professional League (the highest level in Japan).
Contrary to the articles written, we got Fil-Am players from the minor leagues and collegiate leagues. If compared to football, we can say we got players in the fifth or sixth division level of football.
