US wins 2-0 over Canada. Dempsey and Altidore scores a goal each. Enjoyed the game. I think Landon Donovan had a solid game. Our local San Francisco Bay Area "kid", Chris Wondolowski (De La Salle High School, San Jose Earthquakes) didn't see much action as a sub, but that was expected. He's been hot for the Earthquakes this season, hope to see him start or play more minutes in the future.

I hope the Quakes go up the standings too.. 4W - 4L isn't that bad, but they better pick up some wins. Nice to see Dempsey score a goal again!

I think his partnership with Agudelo looks promising too. How about the effort from Tim Howard. The US will need him to be big against the bigger teams. Especially against Mexico, GK will be the only advantage the US will have in terms of match-ups.

jimsar,
I actually got to interact with Landon Donovan on bigsoccer.com when he was still with the U-17 team a long time ago. He was kind of immature then and got on the board to defend his teammate Damarcus Beasley from criticism from other posters. Too bad he never took his talent fulltime to Europe where he would have been recognized for his achievements.

USA - Canada was a bored match... both pretty gray teams, I still hope the US to get better while the tourney goes.
I expect another "goleada" for the poor Cuba, even so... I dunno if De La Torre will use two forwards or two DMs again... I hope he goes with the former, but if with the later... I just hope he gives Zavala a try... Torrado and Castro are by far our weakest link up.

sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-mexico-doping5 Mexico players test positive, blame tainted food 3 minutes ago MEXICO CITY (AP)—The Mexican football federation said five players from its national team have tested positive for banned substances and have been removed Thursday from the squad playing in the Gold Cup. The players named by the Mexican federation are goalkeeper Guilleremo Ochoa, defenders Edgar Duenas and Francisco Rodriguez, and midfielders Christian Bermudez and Antonio Naelson. … AFP - Jun 7, 2:16 am EDT Decio De Maria, general secretary of the Mexican federation, said he believed the players tested positive by ingesting contaminated food. “What we presume … one had to ingest contaminated materials—meat or chicken,” De Maria said. “Now comes the tough part, taking the players off the squad and opening an investigation. Meanwhile, it is a disagreeable moment to take this kind of decision, but we have to take responsibility.” The Mexican federation said the five tested positive in pre-Gold Cup doping tests conducted May 21. Officials said the substance detected was the banned anabolic agent clenbuterol. “Everything points to it being an accident, very unfortunate,” De Maria said. ________________ Mrpmosh, Did any of these players participate in Mexico's game against El Salvador and if they have will that mean that the result of that game will be invalidated in favor of El Salvador. It doesn't matter anyway since Mexico can easily win the other matches in its group. it would be a shame though if they end up facing the US before the finals. That leaves Mexico with 4 defenders by my count. Apparently this testing was done by the Mexican federation themselves so it might not affect the Gold Cup. But then again I read El Salvador is looking into it. It sounds like a food contamination problem since there are reports of beef contamination in Mexico in April. BTW, Do the Mexican leagues have rules for testing banned substances?

Ochoa and Rodriguez played agaisnt El Salvador, but the test was from May 21st, so, not related to their match at all... they're just trying to win on the desk what they can't do in the field. I guess they just follow FIFA statments, there have never been a doping case in the Mexican league as far as I know, so I don't know the protocol here.

Yeah, there may be a good chance Bob Bradley might get fired if they don't advance to the final. Hopefully they can get a foreign coach who knows what he is doing like Guus Hiddink for example.
I have been reading other forums like bigsoccer and they are already calling for Bradley's and Gulati's head. It is kind of similar to the football forums in football crazy nations in Europe and South America where the fans who are serious and knowledgeable about their sport openly criticize decisions made by their coaches, federation heads and players. Perhaps we should learn from this.

Perhaps we should learn from this. I may have to agree with them though. Bradley has been stubborn in terms of his player selection and tactics. Gulati meanwhile missed a golden opportunity to bring in ex-Germany Coach Jurgen Klinsmann because he wanted to introduce new things at all levels of play and not just the National team. You're right, if our fans can reach that level of knowledge it would be a step forward in terms of football in the country. But of course we should balance it out and be responsible with our criticisms as well.

Katipunero,
Hopefully you don't use that flag when posting on bigsoccer or other international forums where they don't know about philippine history. They might think you are a member of the Ku Klux Klan. haha.

Thanks for the reminder though! haha

USA 1 - 2 PANAMA Haaaaaay..... SJ 4 - 2 DC Wooohooo!!! Definitely a career game for Steven Lenhart with this hat trick. Back on topic; not to overstate the obvious, it's now a "must win" game vs Guadaloupe. Commentators said before the Panama game that it will be an opportunity to rest some of the starters. I guess not anymore.
