The Philippine Football has been flooded with grass roots, grass roots, grass roots and more grass roots. As of now, there are only three tournaments that offer playing time for players between the ages 18 to 32, which is considered the highest points of any footballer's career.
PFF Smart Club National Championships, PFF Under-23, and LBC United Football League.
The numbers are quite low. Yes. compared to other countries with multi-level football tournaments.
Yes. Grassroots is a good program only if there is 'a place to put these roots'. If there is none, then they will eventually die down due to limited choices and limited opportunities.
Let's start with Micro-Tournaments. All FA's do tournaments for players aged between 18 to 32. Everyone of them do a 6-month long tournament. Season after season they will eventually improve.
And soon, each of these squads will do their own grass roots. That would be much better.
Let CLUBS create their own grassroots while PFF with its FAs create competitive tournaments for these clubs.

I agree with this. Quite a number of athletes grew up playing football but have found themselves playing other sports after high school or college. Some of these guys even made it as professional basketball players! It's not that I think we shouldn't focus on grassroots development but as sugod suggests, there should be more focus on the "adult game".

Some of these guys even made it as professional basketball players! So true, Samhain13. One of the "better" football players from my old high school in Bacolod was Francis Arnaiz. One game I watched where he played a really strong game was vs Silliman in Dumaguete. Years make memory a bit foggy, but I think it may have been a college varsity game. For those who are too young to know Francis, he became a PBA star player for Toyota. jyapjoco: Are you related to Butch Yapjoco?
