Italian football expert sees huge potentials in PH Little Azkals Cebu Daily News WITH the growth that the Little Azkals have been experiencing, it’s no wonder why the team is being tagged as the Philippine’s future in football with the potential to see action in the World Cup. This is according to Italian Nicolo’ Ferrante, the director general of A.S.D SportVillage Tommaso Natale Scuola Calcio Giacomo Tedesco which hosted the team’s training in Palermo Italy. Ferrante arrived in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia last Tuesday to watch the Little Azkals’ vie in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under 14 Festival of Football 2012 Southeast Asia Region. He arrived with Lorenzo Genco who completed the Little Azkals lineup for the festival which kicked off yesterday with the Little Azkals winning two of their three matches. (Please see separate story) “They have started now, as long as they continue to train together they should get better,” Ferrante said. He said that the team learned a lot in the 20 days that they had their training camp in Palermo Italy but 20 days is not enough. “The kids want to learn more stuff, they are very interested,” Ferrante said. According to Ferrante, two very significant changes that the team underwent after it had its training in Italy was its tactical level and understanding of the sport. Ferrante added that tactical factor is very important because it will lead to better teamwork. “If a team is secluded in one area and train together, it would be hard for them to loose. They have better formation. You have the squad, let them grow, apply what they learned, they should get better,” Ferrante said. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. Little Azkals off to hot start, notch 2 victories By Mars G. Alison Cebu Daily News The Little Azkals or the Philippine Under-14 football team opened their stint in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under 14 Festival of Football 2012 Southeast Asia Region with two wins and one draw yesterday at the Stadium Likas in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia. The Little Azkals blanked Cambodia (2-0) and Australia (3-0) before drawing against Myanmar. No champion will be declared in this event as it is purely a festival type not a competition. It is designed this way by AFC as a developmental for the kids and the coaches. In fact, there are 12 teams participating but the Little Azkals will only be playing nine which means they won’t be playing against one or two countries. There are two formats for the festival. The first will be played from May 30 to 31 while the second format will be on June 2 and 3. Each participating team will be divided into two sub-teams—team 1 and 2. The first format will have teams 1 and 2 playing for 30 minutes straight with no substitutions except when there is an injury, while the second format will have the teams playing 60 minutes with team 1 to play for the first 30 minutes with 3 substitutions from team 2, while team 2 will take over in the remaining 30 minutes also with 3 substitutions from team 1. Scoring for the Little Azkals against Cambodia are Shanden Vergara Jovan Marfiga. Goalkeeper Jose Anton Yared also had two spectacular saves in the game which also contributed a lot to the Little Azkals win. In the match against Australia, team captain Darius Joseph Diamante scored the first goal on a cross followed by a goal from Dimitri Lionel Limbo. The third goal was scored by Javier Romero-Salas. The match against Myanmar would have gone the Little Azkals’ way but they were not able to convert the four attempts that they had. Today, the Little Azkals will face Singapore, Indonesia and Timor Leste. Other teams who won their matches yesterday were Malaysia over Brunei, 2-0; Timor Leste vs. Vietnam, 4-0; Thailand vs. Malaysia, 2-0; Indonesia vs. Vietnam, 1-0; and Vietnamn vs. Laos, 2-1. The Little Azkals played without Moiselle Angelo Alforque who was downed with food poisoning yesterday. Marco Alessandro Casambre and Josh Albert Miller had to play twice to cover for Alforque’s absence. newsinfo.inquirer.net/203937/little-azkals-off-to-hot-start-notch-2-victories

Little Azkals to face Vietnam team todayBy Mars Alison Cebu Daily News 7:06 am | Saturday, June 2nd, 2012 share6 17 The Philippine Under 14 football team known as the Little Azkals hope to improve its win-draw-loss record of 3-1-2 as the second format of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Under 14 Festival of Football 2012 Southeast Asia Region starts today at the Stadium Likas in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia. The second format will have all 22 members playing a total of 60 minutes. All teams will still be divided into two with team 1 playing in the first 30 minutes and team 2 taking over in the remaining 30 minutes. The Little Azkals will go up against Vietnam, which head coach Oliver “Bingbing” Colina considers a crucial match since they lost to Vietnam last year, 0-3. “Once they (Vietnam) have the ball, we should not allow them to turn around so they cannot do their combination play,” Colina said. Colina said when Vietnam is pressured, the team finds it hard to create its combination plays. Because the Vietnam players are smaller in stature, Colina said the boys need to play hard and aggressive. “They are not new to the high press because they always start their games that way,” said Colina, adding that the boys must use their speed in transitioning from defending to attacking. Meanwhile, teams were treated to a dinner hosted by the AFC last night. newsinfo.inquirer.net/205259/little-azkals-to-face-vietnam-team-today

Little Azkals to see action in Japan-East Asean Football Festival Cebu Daily News 8:38 am | Wednesday, June 6th, 2012 Tweet share204 178 AFTER Kota Kinabalu, the Philippine Under 14 team will be leaving for Osaka, Japan in less than two weeks for the Japan-East Asean Football Exchange Programme U-14 Youth Football Festival slated June 17 to 24. Team manager Richard Montayre said this is an invitational tournament hosted by the Japan Football Association (JFA) and will be played at the J-Green Sakai in Osaka. Only six teams will play, including a team from Japan. Aside from Philippines and Japan, also seeing action are Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The Philippine U14, also known as the Little Azkals, got an invite from the JFA based on its performance in last year’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-14 Festival of Football (FOF) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah Malaysia. In the recently concluded AFC FOF, Montayre said that the team’s performance was decent despite only winning the same number of games as last year. In 2011, the team had a win-draw-loss record of 3-3-4. This year, they finished with a 3-2-4 slate. “We expected to win more games. But the quality of their game has become a lot better than last year,” Montayre said. Assistant coach Eliezer Fabroada said the Little Azkals’ true test will be in Japan because it will be a tournament. The AFC FOF is patterned more as a development for the young players. Most commendable performances among the Little Azkals in this year’s festival were their goalkeepers Jose Anton Yared and Harrel Rainier Dayan. “Their performance was a very big factor because our defense committed a lot of lapses but both were able to make a lot of blocks and saves,” said Little Azkals goalkeeping coach Noel Marcaida. Meanwhile, the team’s travelling shirts are sponsored by Diadora, Mang Inasal and Philippine Biomass. Their jerseys are covered by Montayre. But the team manager is currently negotiating with a major sponsor for the team. newsinfo.inquirer.net/207533/little-azkals-to-see-action-in-japan-east-asean-football-festival

Little Azkals head for Japan todayCebu Daily News 6:58 am | Saturday, June 16th, 2012 THE Philippine Under 14 football team also known as the Little Azkals leaves for Japan today for the Japan-East Asean Football Exchange Programme U-14 Youth Football Festival, which will be held in Osaka from June 17 to 24. Aside from the home team Japan and the Philippines, only four other countries have been invited to see action in this tournament funded by the Japan Football Association (JFA). These are Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. The Little Azkals have been invited by the JFA based on their performance in last year’s Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-13 Festival of Football held in Malaysia, wherein they posted a win-draw-loss record of 3-3-4. The JFA is shouldering the travel expenses, accommodation and food of all participating teams, according to team manager Richard Montayre. The Little Azkals lineup is comprised of Cebu’s Lawrence “Soysoy” Colina, Major Dean Ebarle, Kintaro Miyagi, Vincent Erik Lovitos and Lorenzo Genco; Manila’s Marco Alessandro Casambre, Harrel Rainier Dayan, Josh Albert Miller, Ray Vincent Sanciangco and John William Abraham; Cagayan de Oro’s Jeremiah Borlongan and Dimitri Lionel Limbo; Davao’s Darius Joseph Diamante and Javier Romero-Salas; Dumaguete’s Christian Floren Lapas and Jose Anton Yared, Dipolog’s Sebastian Rafael Patangan; and San Carlos City’s Mason Trent Vergara. Head coach Oliver Colina is confident the boys will perform well despite not having enough rest. It has been a busy summer for the Little Azkals. As soon as classes finished last March, the boys were camped at the Don Bosco Boys Home in Liloan, wherein they trained twice a day except on Sundays. They had a 20-day training in Palermo, Italy hosted by A.S.D SportVillage Tommaso Natale Scuola Calcio Giacomo Tedesco. While in Italy, the team also played in 12 friendly matches. Upon their return to the country, the team went back to the training camp in Liloan in preparation for the AFC U14 FOF held in Kota Kinabalu from May 28 to June 4. Two days after returning last June 5, the team went back to training camp in Liloan, this time in preparation for the Japan tournament. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. they're turning out to be our most successful youth team. Proof that we have the talent and the pool to excel in the game, unfortunately, what's lacking is development (at least, during the previous years)
