by Vincent N. Labial
TUBOD, Lanao del Norte, June 11 (PIA) -- – The highly anticipated 1st Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Lanao del Norte Football Festival will officially kick-off on June 18, 2011 at the sprawling Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) football field.
The 2-day festival aims to identify the best players from Mindanao and Visayas regions.
Expected to participate in this annual event are the provinces of Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Lanao del Norte and some provinces in the Visayas.
“We are happy to host another exciting sport here at MCC Sports Complex. With the growing popularity of football, we are hoping that this is another way to encourage people to pursue a healthy lifestyle,” Provincial Sports Coordinator Nelson Lasola said.
The tournament has 10 categories: 35 above (Mens), Mens Open, Ladies Open, 16-Under (Boys), 16-Under (Girls), 14-Under (Boys), 14-Under (Girls), 12-Under (Boys), 10-Under (Boys), and 8-9 Mixed.
The good news is that admission to the preliminary and championship matches is free, Lasola also said.
This event is one of the highlight in the month-long celebration of the 52nd Foundation Anniversary of Lanao del Norte.
“This is one of the best football field in the country and many of the national coaches and players have expressed their admiration to our football venue,” Atty. Alex Macabangkit, LANOFA President, said.
With an excellent tournament venue, the MCC Sports Center could be an excellent choice as the national training center for football in southern Philippines, said Cyril Dositas, PFF Competition Department Head.
