bad news.... tsk3x FILIPINO-Dutch PRO Booter Tries Out For Azkalsby Peter Atencio FILIPINO-Dutch Paul Mulders, a 30-year old football pro, planed in recently to try out for the Philippine National Azkals. But national coach Michael Weiss said Mulers came in too late and will not be picked when he announces the final composition of the team seeing action against Sri Lanka in their two-game home-and-away series on June 29 and July 3 for the he World Cup qualifying matches. “There will be no more new players for the team. He (Mulders) will not play for Sri Lanka, but later on,” said Weiss last Friday during the Azkals’ workouts at the pitch of the Rizal Memorial football stadium in Vito Cruz. The 5’9” Amsterdam-based Mulder has been playing professional soccer for the last 10 years and is currently under contract with Ado Den Haag. Mulder, whose father is Dutch and mother is from Isabela in the Philippines, is an attacking midfielder. Weiss said the Azkals will have a complete team when they leave for a two-week training in Durren, Germany starting on June 12. Weiss will choose from seven aspirants, namely former national player and Fil-Australian Lee Gunn, Fil-Iranian Misagh Bahadoran, Fil-Americans James Rochiletes, OJ Porteria, Neil Ignacio and Nathan Burkey and London-based Alvin Sarmiento. Meanwhile, organizers said tickets for the Philippines’ 2014 World Cup qualifying match against Sri Lanka on 3 July 2011 in Manila are almost sold out. The game, which serves as the second leg of the first round World Cup qualifiers will be played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Around 28,000 seats of tickets worth P200 to P3,000 have been put on sale last week. But Philippine Football Federation officials said they were surprised upon learning that most of the tickets were gone within two hours. azkalsunited.tumblr.com/post/6242949214/fil-dutch-pro-booter-tries-out-for-azkals

wag na yang burkey. he should include mulders instead. I AGREE! Burkey (USA 5th Division) - Last division football league in the US Mulders (Netherlands 1st Division) Eredivisie - highest football league in Netherlands and take note Netherlands is second place on Fifa World Rankings. 2nd to Spain. i hope Weiss will do the math...

Maybe there are still some considerations as to why Paul Mulders will not be included in the Sri Lanka match. First of all we are aware that Paul has to fix his passport issues first since his mom was already a dutch citizen upon his birth. And we all know that most writers in the Philippines whenever they write something about football usually end up wrong or inaccurate so at the moment we really can't tell..

Don't worry guys. I don't think we need Paul Mulders for Sri Lanka. The current team should be enough. We will definitely need him though for the Kuwait game in the 2nd round. Applying for a passport takes time especially with his circumstances.

This is the dumbest thing yet from Coach Weiss. What in the world is he thinking? If it wasn't enough to fire the guy due to the style he promotes that doesn't fit the Azkal technical level, leaving out Mulders definitely is enough to remove him. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Fire Weiss now! ..... curtlanceunitedAfter a few hours of thinking about this, if the author is anything like just about all the reporters and writers on the Azkals out there, maybe he misquoted or wrote to put things out of context. Maybe Mulders doesn't have his paperwork yet and that's why he can't be selected. I guess I should hold opinions more until I hear from other sources as well given what I've read in the past.

Sorry I think Coach Weiss salary is being paid for by the DFB, the German federation so you can't fire him. Maybe at some point, if problems continue, we can hire a defensive specialist to help him coach the team. Let us give him time though. Maybe with better players from Europe who are more tactically aware of their defensive responsibilities, he can get better results.
As for Paul, he has been wanting to play for the Azkals for years. A short wait won't be a problem.

Not only better players, but also once he gets the right mix of players suited to the system and style of play he wants for the Azkals, then we're on to something good and hopefully results will follow.
cjeagle, that's good to hear about Paul.
