Cheiffy & family will migrate. Now, he's in the same shoes as those parents who wanted more for their kids and migrate to a different country to make life better. I guess his pure/homegrown views will surely change once his kids tryout for the national team in the future. now that you have mentioned it... ;D

We all know the media baited him into saying those. It's not like Chieffy is one to say those remarks without any outside impetus.

BTW, when I mentioned earlier that Chieffy should also consider playing with the numerous Mexican leagues available in the state of Texas, if he cannot find a position in MLS or the PDL, I would like to point out that US and Fulham scorer Clint Dempsey a native of Nagodoches, TX, actually learned his skills in those leagues before going to college at Furman U, turning pro with the New England Revs of MLS and finally at Fulham.

It's not like Chieffy is one to say those remarks without any outside impetus. Actually he did. I was talking about the interview with AKTV not with GMAs J. Soho. In the interview he stated his views re homegrown talents and his reluctants of having to bring foreign based players to boost the squad since homegrown players are more than capable representing the country. In addition, this is somewhat a source of pride for the PAF since they are the only ones that doesn't have any imports in their lineup. Ok guys.. Adios

Family before football: Chieffy leaves Air Force; Azkals future in doubtKarl Decena, InterAKTV · Saturday, June 30, 2012 · 11:08 pm With Philippine Air Force Phoenix tied against lowly Philippine Navy Redjuice on Saturday, Chieffy Caligdong curled a shot that hit the back of the net at the 64th minute to give his team the 2-1 victory. It was yet another brilliant performance for Caligdong, who has been starring for the Air Force football club for the past 10 years. However, his priorities may prevent him from suiting up again for the squad; the Philippine national team mainstay revealed he is planning to migrate abroad with his family. “Opportunity yun para sa family ko,” said the 29-year-old Caligdong, whose wife, a registered nurse, has found employment in Texas. “I’ll grab the opportunity para sa kanila, para mabigyan ng magandang kinabukasan.” Caligdong said that it was tough for him to leave football. But as a father of two, he made the decision to give his family a brighter future. “Family yan e, so kung opportunity na yun ay kukunin niya, susundin ko siya,” Caligdong said. “Magiging babysitter ako, sacrifice myself na lang kung anong mas maganda sa kanila.” Fellow Azkal member and long-time teammate Araneta said he understands the decision of his childhood friend. “Yung football di naman pang-habambuhay yan,” said Araneta, who grew up playing football with Caligdong from their childhood days at Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo until their days in the Air Force. “Syempre iniisp din niya yung future ng pamilya niya.” Araneta added that Caligdong will be a big loss to the Air Force, which settled for a fifth-place finish this season after winning the first two UFL titles. “Malaking kawalan samin si Chieffy lalo na sa left flank kasi dino-dominate niya yung depensa run,” Araneta said. “Pero para naman sa future niya yun, so suportado ko siya.” Caligdong’s status with the Azkals remains doubtful, though he said he could still join the team while his family’s migration papers are being processed. “Hindi pa ako makapag-decide kung mag-stop ako [from playing for the Azkals],” said Caligdong, who is best known for his sensational goal in the Azkals’ AFC Challenge Cup qualifying match in Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City last year. Caligdong also carried the Azkals in the 2011 Long Teng Cup, hitting two goals to help the Philippines claw back from a 2-0 deficit and force a 3-3 draw against Hongkong. He duplicated his feat days after, also scoring two goals in their much-needed win over Macau. He won the tournament’s Golden Boot Award, while lifting the Azkals to a second-place finish. Despite what he has achieved in the field, Caligdong does not regret his decision, as long as it is for his loved ones. “Syempre uunahin ko family ko before football,” he said. “Hindi naman ako magdedecide kundi para sa kanila, lalo na sa dalawang anak ko.” www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/family-before-football-chieffy-leaves-air-force-azkals-future-in-doubt

US-bound Chieffy not abandoning PH AzkalsBy Cedelf P. Tupas Philippine Daily Inquirer 10:04 pm | Sunday, July 1st, 2012 National team co-skipper Chieffy Caligdong has allayed fears he may no longer suit up for the Azkals following his request for a discharge from the Phil-ippine Air Force due to personal reasons. The fleet-footed winger played his last game for the Airmen in a 2-1 win over Navy Saturday in the United Football League at University of Makati field. The 29-year-old Caligdong has requested for a discharge because of his family’s impending migration to the United States. “My priority is my family,” said Caligdong, a father of two. “My decisions will be based on what’s good for them.” But Caligdong said the process of migrating to the US could take time and he might still be available for upcoming tournaments of the national team, particularly the Suzuki Cup. Caligdong has been the only homegrown player to figure in the starting eleven of the Azkals recently as the team has benefited from the influx of overseas-bred Filipinos. He said his discharge from the Air Force would open up possibilities, including playing for another UFL club next season. Among the clubs that have expressed interest in his services are Loyola Meralco, Kaya and Penson Stallion Giligans—a team based in Iloilo, Caligdong’s home province. Caligdong has actually been hounded by an assortment of injuries this year and said the break could serve him in good stead. sports.inquirer.net/50923/us-bound-chieffy-not-abandoning-ph-azkals

‘Mr. Football’ relates to Chieffy’s decision to leave Air ForceReynaldo Belen, InterAKTV · Sunday, July 1, 2012 · 12:22 pm For many Filipino football fans, the news of star winger Chieffy Caligdong leaving Philippine Air Force FC to migrate abroad came as a shock. But for one Filipino football legend, it came with a sense of deja vu. Like Caligdong, Elmer Lacknet Bedia grew up in football hotbed Barotac Nuevo in Iloilo City, before joining Air Force FC. The star of the national team in the early ’80s, Bedia was named the Philippines’ “Mr. Football” in 1986. “It’s very sad to hear that Chieffy is leaving our beloved Air Force FC but on the other hand, it’s a very good decision. When it comes to family matters, it’s the same situation in my case back in the ’80s,” wrote Bedia in a comment in reaction to news of Caligdong’s planned migration to the United States. Bedia left Air Force to join Australia’s Olympic United FC. In 1986, he was named one of the top 10 best football players Down Under. He would occasionally return to suit up for Air Force and the Philippine team, and was part of the squad that won a historic upset over Malaysia in the 1991 Southeast Asian Games in Manila. His assist set up Norman Fegidero’s goal that gave the home side a 1-0 victory. “I don’t regret what I did, as what I see in Philippine football, the players don’t benefit from those big bucks that have been given to the club that should be spent on the players to make the competition really good,” continued Bedia, who still remains involved in grassroots Philippine football as a consultant to Team Philippines competing in the Homeless World Cup, helping former national teammate Rudy del Rosario. “Hopefully, the PFF should wake up and look after those players who make football as what [it is] today. It should start paying players what they deserve.” Bedia ended with a message of support for Caligdong. “For Chieffy, good luck and God bless… from Mr. Football.” www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/mr-football-relates-to-chieffys-decision-to-leave-air-force

Despite planned migration to US, Chieffy still plans to play for AzkalsKarl Decena, InterAKTV · Friday, July 6, 2012 · 4:55 pm After announcing his departure from the Philippine Air Force, veteran Chieffy Caligdong dismissed speculations that he will be leaving the Philippine national men’s football team. “Wala akong sinasabing ‘di ako maglalaro sa national team,” Caligdong said Friday. “Hindi pwedeng mawala yung football sa akin.” Last week, InterAKTV reported that the Azkals wingman has decided to migrate to the United States with his family after his wife, a registered nurse, found employment in Texas. But while waiting for their documents to be processed, Caligdong said that he would still don the national colors for the rest of the year, including stints in the Long Teng Cup in October and the Suzuki Cup at the end of the year. Caligdong added that he still has plans to come back, although he is still unsure what his plans are after returning from the US. “Hindi ako magtatagal dun,” Caligdong said. “Meron akong Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, after migrating in Texas.” Despite seeking greener pastures, Caligdong said that his loyalty remains with the national team. “I prefer na magrepresent sa country natin kesa (mag-stay) sa US,” he said. www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/despite-planned-migration-to-us-chieffy-still-plans-to-play-for-azkals

Donovan as well... he even learned Spanish. Donovan joined the leagues in California, not Texas, but I get your point. Anyways I think Chieffy might reconsider his decision. Since he is a national team member and part of the starting eleven most of the time, now that he is out of the PAF, he will probably receive big money offers from some of the local clubs and that might prompt him to stay or at least consider coming back especially if he cannot find a stable job over there. It is not the first time that a couple with kids will be separated for awhile, at least temporarily.

Sir Wiking, i read that rumor too. It says that he will sign to GAU for 5 yrs. Hi, a few weeks ago a friend from twitter told me an Azkal was going to make a big move, but he didn't tell me who. Today, he answered my question. It seems it is Chieffy who will be going to GAU! Pasilan, Caligdong, Deyto and Pasinabo, this crew has alot better upside than AF and hopefully he gets a "civilian" size paycheck too. He deserves to reap the benefits of being in the open market! Dunno 'bout the contract length though. Maybe it is 5 years?
