I have saw some article that Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland) could be fielding a football team for the 2012 Olympics. But the rules of the tournament state that players must be 23 or younger. But each team is allowed three wildcard picks of any age.
Imagine how far the team would go if their is no age limit!

If Great Britain fields a team for the Olympics, that means FIFA would recognize it, right? Wouldn't that mean the end of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland teams?
Anyways, as the link above suggests, all the FAs should agree to such a thing.

I think its only for the Olympics, because their is no England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland during the Olympics.
They go to the Olympics as team Great Britain.

Many fans here in UK are basking on the idea on fielding a unified Team GB in Olympics. Some non-English players like Welshman Gareth Bale has expressed intention of his availability despite some stiff opposition from Wales FA, his home country's governing body. A unified Team GB is really a fantastic idea but they are encountering opposition from FA's in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who has issued circulars prohibiting its players to be part of the team. With only English FA are willing to supply its players to this mission I would say the proposed Team GB would be half-baked. They might have difficulty of winning the gold against Spain, the current Euro under 21 champions whose nucleus are believed to be the core of their Olympic team. And not to mention South Ameican under 21 Champs Brazil which are having top youngsters like Alexandre Pato, Neymar, Ganso, Coutinho and Manchester United twins Rafael and Fabio.

If ever I have to choose players in a unified Team GB I will list the following names: (usually Olympic teams have 18 players not 23 : 15 players ages under 23 and 3 overaged players)
These are my takes :
Under 23's from England :
Kieran Gibbs (left back) - Arsenal Chris Smalling (centreback) - Manchester United James Tomkins (rightback) - West HAm Jack Rodwell (central midfielder) - Everton Jack Wilshere (central midfielder) - Arsenal Theo Walcott (right winger, striker) - Arsenal Andy Carroll (striker) - Liverpool Daniel Sturridge (striker) - Chelsea Jason Steele (goalkeeper) - Middlesborough Jordan Henderson (attacking midfielder) - Liverpool Danny Welbeck (striker) - Manchester United on loan to Sunderland Phil Jones (centreback, defensive midfielder) - Manchester United
Under 23's from Wales
Gareth Bale (left winger) - Tottenham Aaron Ramsey (central midfielder, centreback, all-around winger) - Arsenal
Under 23's from Scotland
Danny Wilson (centreback) - Liverpool
plus three overaged players
John Terry (centreback) - captain of Chelsea and England national seniors team, I picked him as he can bring maturity and stability in the back four aside from leadership off the pitch.
Darren Fletcher (midfield-allrounder, utility player of Manchester United) - captain of Scotland national team, picked as he can play different positions and known of his creativity.
Jon Hart (goalkeeper) - Manchester City. Definitely this under 23 side needs an experienced player who will tend the post.
Looks like a Dream Team !
