I somewhat agree with sheajane here. Once the Arab nations start investing a good deal of money on basketball, there will come a time when their skill level will match ours. And when that time comes, our lack of height will ultimately pull us down.

The project has enough support as it stands right now (especially in comparison to what other sports projects get in this nation).

The project has enough support as it stands right now (especially in comparison to what other sports projects get in this nation). financially, yes, theres a lot of support but to the individual players maybe not....like what is happening to the core group they are slowly joining or participating on the draft. hontiveros quits the team, the PBA players to whom Toroman wants to join the team was having a hard time pulling them out from their mother club, collegiate students was forced to go back to schools because of the rules and regulation of being a member of the that school (like Ramos of FEU), some collegiate students was not even released for undisclose reason like fajardo of UC. It is like joining the national squad is a burden for some of the players, it is not before like the NCC squad. Those squad play for pride and glory for the country and they had a good decision for sticking to the team until 3 to 4 years, then they join the pro look at the result majority of them consider as the top basketball players ever lived (austria, calma, lim, caidic and to name a few) hoping as the extension of the gilas program NCAA, UAAP, PBA, BAP will set aside their difference and lend the players on Toromans wish list and MVP will hold those players until 2014.

That's what's frustrating. Not everyone is on the same page. Not everyone is included in the pool. There's a conflict of interest.

back in the asian map? eh nahabol na nga ng mga arabo eh. di lang nahabol, napag-iwanan pa. don't expect na iran lang magaling sa mga yan, kasi ling din sa basketball yang ibang higanteng arab nations. kulelat sa skills yang mga arabong mga yan dati, pero sa height hindi. skills can be learned, height cannot. kung yan ang paniniwala mu....eh d problema mo na yan....smart gilas program....is a good program.....dahil indi umuusad ang program dahil na rin sa paniniwala mo......medyo tingnan mo muna ang stats sa 2 year stint ng gilas...admitted pandak tayo....pero see the result kahit papanu lumalaban pa na ang mga majority ng players came from amateurs....... lols di ko problema yan. problema ng mga basketball players, coach, etc natin yan. REALITY IS REALITY. Skills can be LEARNED, while HEIGHT CANNOT. Hirap pa nga ang mga WELL-SKILLED but NOT GIFTED IN HEIGHT PINOYS against the NOT WELL-SKILLED but GIFTED IN HEIGHT ARABS. How much more if the GIFTED IN HEIGHT ARABS BECOMES WELL-SKILLED? Logic lang ang tawag dyan. Wala sa akin ang problema nor sa system ng basketball natin BUT in the simple fact of the ADAGE THAT HEIGHT IS MIGHT IN BASKETBALL. That's the problem with those who do understand that deep inside but don't say it in public because THEY SIMPLY ARE IN DENIAL. A simple example, Paglaruin mo ng dragon boat ang smart gilas versus china or iran basketball team at kayang-kaya manalo ng smart gilas sa mga yan FOR THE SIMPLE FACT THAT HEIGHT ISN'T A FACTOR IN THIS SPORT. If di mo pa rin maintindihan yan eh manahimik ka na lang. kasi as you've shown dati pa, puro ka lang dakdak eh. you assumed pang football fans lang ang mga posters dito when you said "ba't di kayo phl dragon boat fans??? dahil ba walang gwapo???" lol roflmao

China might have height but they can be easily be beaten by smaller teams from Europe, African (i.e Angola) and Americas (esp Puerto Rico).
Middle East teams, Jordan at Qatar (out na ang Lebanon, rebuilding sila) lang naman ang magaling dun, mas nakakatako pa nga Korea sa kanila eh. Dont pry, we beat those teams once in awhile.
Anyway, be patient i takes you 4-6 years to build a strong NT program sa basketball. Ang Iran, they invested in their youth team, kaya dominated nila yun Asia these days. Ngayon lang nag ka tamang program for basketball and hopefully lalo pang mapapaganda un programa for basketball.

Lutz and Lassiter have been declared ineligible for the team bec. of a new obscure rule in the FIBA 2010 regulations making dual citizen players decide which team they will play for at the age of 16. This might force the Philippine team pending a final decision from FIBA in Geneva, to play with only 10 men for the rest of the tournament.

Kids that young aren't even sure if they're good enough to play basketball at a high level.

They have made it to the 2nd round(wins over UAE and Bahrain) now without those 2 players and are hoping they can get them back by submitting DFA documents to FIBA.

Acc. to this article: philboxing.com/news/story-60165.html"In his letter addressed to SBP president Manny Pangilinan and current executive director and former PBA Commissioner Sonny Barrios, FIBA secretary general, lawyer Patrick Baumann said "After a review, I hereby authorize players Lassiter and Lutz to play for the National Team team of the Philippines without being subject to Article 3 (21a)” which effects naturalized players." both players have been cleared by the head office at FIBA, to play for the rest of the tournament and will be available to play against Jordan in a few hours.

we've beaten Jordan 64 - 72, Lutz & Lassister was barred from playing in the 1st Qtr since that stupid FIBA Asia official made another ruling that the message of the letter of FIBA was unclear. Our fortune changes when a phone call from the higher ups of FIBA during the game that led to the insertion of Lutz & Lassister.
Great game actually we were trailing 17 - 2 in the opening minutes of the game then guns was all blazing for the Philippines by 3rd Qtr which led us to victory.
Marcio, Tiu and Casio defended well against Jordanian star PG Sam Daghles and naturalized SG Rashiem Wright in the second half. actually Wright was shut out 0 out of 9 in the 3 point area.
