hopefully douthit's injury was not serious and he can still play.
Jordan protested to FIBA on the addition of Lutz and Lassiter.
As for the FIBA Asia officials, they are probably go raise another ruckus when Chris Banchero plays for the team in the future.

Hi Cjeagle, its nice to see that you're very well versed with our Basketball team its amazing to see to that a lot of people are sports fans compared to being "pang Football lang ang pinoy". Anyway we have a lot of prospects coming in from abroad. We've got a pinoy whose playing in the top tier teams in europe named Stanley Pringle and a couple of 6'9 players in the D1 and D2 of US NCAA. One is Chris Standhardinger and Isaac Holstein and a lot of guards in D1 program of various US NCAA colleges/universities. Today's game is will be a defensive battle against Japan, if we can limit their outside & perimeter shooting we have a chance of beating them although the odds in betting websites favors us 3.15 %.

i like the current smart gilas team because they have chemistry. sadly most of them are leaving for the PBA. hopefully they can loan lassiter when he turns pro. anyway what happens if they make it to the olympics? do they have to scout for players for the new batch of smart gilas?

b3lowzro,
Of course I am a fan of Philippine sports. Also I played both football and basketball when I was growing up. I know all about those players you mentioned except for Isaac Holstein. The problem is will FIBA allow us to use them in the future, especially if they stick to a strict interpretation of that 16 y/o rule in the future.
As for the game against Japan, if they don't improve their perimeter shooting anytime soon, they are going have a tough time not only against Japan but the other tall teams. Aren't we producing anymore Allan Caidic's? Maybe they should hire Chip Engelland to teach them fundamental shooting skills and the amount of practice they need to do to be as good as Allan and Chip.
As for future national teams, hopefully both the Metro Pacific and SMC group get together to share players so we wouldn't be shorthanded in the future. Otherwise some of the current players will not be released by their PBA teams.

Hi Cjeagle
Yes, Fiba will allow those pinoys with foreign lineage since our constitution says that they are Filipinos at birth when at least one parent is a Filipino citizen, its just demolition job by Hagop Kharijan (the Fiba official) to Syria, Philippines and Qatar since Lebanon NT was out of shape and clearly lacking experience in this FIBA Asian Championship.
We beaten Japan, Marcio Lassister had a tremedous defensive stoppage at Kawamura and Marcus Douthit had a monster game with 23 points. A win tomorrow would give us a better seeding in the Quarter finals. we either face Taiwan or Lebanon in that crossover series.

I am not quite too sure about that. The FIBA secretary general sent a letter allowing both Fil Ams to play, but included an addendum, that this does not preclude them giving a different decision in the future or disallowing Lutz and Lassiter again if evidence is shown that they are indeed ineligible. China which is orchestrating this has so much influence with FIBA, that they have been chosen as Asia host several times consecutively, despite other teams wanting to host like us. It is a good thing we have MVP on our side as his persistence and clout has paid off. Here is the addendum: The FIBA decision, according to Baumann, however, “is made without prejudice to FIBA’s right to apply article 321 more restrictively in any future cases and or to review the eligibility of these players should any new information be reported in relation to their national status." www.gmanews.tv/story/232786/sports/fiba-asia-lassiter-and-lutz-get-go-signal-to-play-for-gilas

Philippine defeats Syria 75-52. If China defeats Japan as expected, we will probably be facing Chinese taipei in the quarters.

hmmm well as long as we provide the necessary documents that FIBA would require us, I think our pinoys with foreign lineage would still get a green light.
A lot of drama took place before the PHL-JPN joust, the organizers were again trying to bar a lot of our Fil-Fors from playing since they don't sport Filipino surnames. Such a blatant move for that Lebanese official to stop our team from making an upset against the Japanese.

With Jordan winning over Iran, I think we have a good chance of making the finals and the chance to win it all. Getting Douthit is the best decision Gilas has ever made. He is such a dominating center both offensively and defensively. It's been a long time and I dare to dream. I don't think the Philippines have played in the Olympics in my lifetime. But before I get ahead of myself, beat Jordan first. ;D

sayang, we played hard in the 1st-3rd Qtrs, mental lapse on coach rajko as he switched the defense into a zone to open up the Jordanian gunners for 3 straight 3pointers.
anyway hats off to the Jordanian coach, Tad Baldwin, he's an experienced coach, led the Tall blacks in their previous stint in Fiba Championships. I think the team placed above Reggie led NBA selection team in that edition.
The ROAD TO LONDON doesn't end today! lets grab the 3rd spot and unleash hell in the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers.

We were outcoached by the Jordanian coach Baldwin. Outstanding ball movement by Jordan.
I also was under the impression that Gilas was choking with one of the worst case of outside shooting I have ever seen from our national team.
Coach Toroman's contract is expiring. Even if we get one of the 2 slots for the Olympic qualifiers and that is doubtful the way Korea is playing, do you think they will rehire him after last night's performance.
