Sunderland Res 3 Liverpool Res 3
Liverpool came from two goals down to claim a point from an entertaining encounter at the Academy of Light.
Both teams played hardand the game was peppered with crunching challenges as two young sides went toe-to-toe.
The visitors opened the scoring midway through the first half through John Flanagan, who played against the first team on the opening day of the season.
But Sunderland roared back as Adam Reed and Craig Lynch netted before Liverpool's Andre Wisdom put through his own net during a crazy six-minute spell.
The hosts were excellent in the first period but the boot was on the other foot after the break as the Reds produced a comeback of their own to claim the spoils.
It was first versus third in the Barclays Premier Reserve League North as Keith Bertschin's side faced a Liverpool outfit seven points behind them with a game in hand.
Rodolfo Borrell's side drew first blood, opening the scoring on 25 minutes after Oumare Tounkara and Krisztian Adorjan came close at either end. Jesus Fernandez Saenz's run down the left caused concern, and when his low shot from distance came back off the post, Flanagan reacted first to smash the ball first-time past Lewis King.
Sunderland were level just two minutes later; Reed sending the goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot after Jack Robinson floored Lynch in the box.
Nathan Eccleston almost restored Liverpool's lead from close range, but instead it was the visitors who surged in front thanks to a goal of the highest quality.
Lynch gained possession 25 yards from goal and launched a fine shot into the roof of the net, leaving keeper Tyrell Belford helpless.
A fine first half was capped 10 minutes before the break when Roarie Deacon's free-kick was deflected in by Wisdom at the front post.
Evidently stung, Liverpool came out all guns blazing at the start of the second half, pulling a goal back thanks to Conor Coady's close-range header from Adorjan's corner.
Sunderland keeper King made two fine saves as the visitors pressed, bravely diving to block Adorjan's drive before tipping away an Eccleston free-kick.
But he was beaten 18 minutes from time as Adorjan played a short corner and looped over a delivery which caught the wind and sailed over the pack of players into the far corner.
Eccleston shot wide from a decent position in a frenetic finish which also saw Fernandez Saenz strike the crossbar with a fine shot as Sunderland held out for a point.
Sunderland: King, Marrs, Watson, Egan, Liddle, Deacon, Elliott (Laidler, 74), Reed, Armstrong, Tounkara, Lynch (Mitchell, 48). Subs Not Used: Oliver, Wilson, Gorrin. Liverpool: Belford, Flanagan, Robinson, Wisdom, Coady, Sterling, Fernandez Saenz, Sama, Roberts, Ecclestone, Adorjan. Subs Not Used: Mendy, Ward, McGiveron, Roddan, Ngoo.

Leyton Orient recruit Adam Reed from Sunderland and Bristol City's Jamal Campbell-Ryce
5:27pm Thursday 8th March 2012 in Sport By Matt Bass
Orient made it a trio of signings this afternoon with Adam Reed and Jamal Campbell-Ryce following hot on the heels of Jamie Smith.
Reed has joined on loan from Premier League side Sunderland for the rest of the season and will look to add competition to the O’s midfield.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a spell with Brentford last season as well as Bradford City earlier this term.
He will war the number eight shirt during his stay at Brisbane Road.
Campbell-Ryce has also put pen-to-paper on a loan deal until the end of the season, returning to E10 after a previous stint during the 2002/03 campaign.
The 28-year-old arrives from Bristol City and takes the number 29 shirt.

Orient sign two more Thu, 08 Mar 17:41:42 2012
Leyton Orient have boosted their squad with the loan captures of Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Adam Reed.
Winger Campbell-Ryce, 28, has moved back to east London from Bristol City for the rest of the season having had a spell on loan with the O's eight years ago.
Midfielder Reed, 20, has signed a similar deal from Sunderland and both players could be added to the squad to face Tranmere on Saturday.
Manager Russell Slade told the club website: "There was competition for Jamal so we are delighted he has decided to join us.
"Adam had a very successful spell with Brentford last season. He's technically very sound and has a combative side to his game too, so he will be a big asset to us."

Reed - We Have To Move On Posted on: Mon 12 Mar 2012 NEW loan signing Adam Reed didn't have to wait long for his first appearance in O's colours after joining from Barclays Premier League side Sunderland late last week. The 20-year-old midfielder linked up with the Londoners last Thursday and was thrown straight into the starting line-up for Saturday's game at Tranmere Rovers. Orient suffered a 2-0 defeat but Hartlepool-born Reed is relishing the prospect of spending the rest of the season in E10 and helping Russell Slade's men move back up the table. "It was disappointing to lose on my debut," he said. "The lads played well and passed the ball about but the luck didn't go our way. "Maybe we didn't create as many chances as we should have done, but we worked hard. We have to get past this now and move onto the next game. "We started positively and stopped the set plays, so to concede the first goal, which should have been defended, wasn't good. We should have avoided it really. "Then the second wasn't the best time to concede. When you go in at 1-0 you always believe you still get back in the game, but conceding another right before half time makes it harder. "We still came out and tried to go for it, but it just wasn't our day." Orient next face one of Reed's former loan clubs when they welcome Brentford to E10 this coming weekend, and having played 11 League 1 games for the Bees last term, the Sunderland man is looking forward to the game. He added: "I've got some friends there and they've already messaged me about next week. "It'll be a good test for the lads, but we need to get back on winning ways, roll our sleeves up and get back up the table."

Oldham Athletic 0 - 1 Leyton Orient npower League 1
DAVID MOONEY'S second half goal gave the O's a crucial victory at Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night.
The Irishman converted George Porter's low cross to put a six-point gap between the Londoners and the bottom four and ease the pressure that had been beginning to build.
Porter gave the visitors fresh attacking impetus, and it was his pacy burst that laid on the goal, before Orient had to play out the final five minutes with ten men following Ryan Dickson's red card.
It made for a nervy finish, but Orient held out to send their small but loyal band of travelling fans home happy.
There was a lengthy delay almost before the game had even started as Dickson curled a free kick towards the back post when home keeper Alex Cisak collided with one of his defenders.
The Latics stopper required treatment but eventually got back to his feet and was fit to continue.
It was the O's, who made four changes to their team due to a combination of injury and illness, who posed the early threat with Porter appearing particularly lively.
The youngster started from the right and used his pace to good effect early on, getting to the by-line and sending over a dangerous low cross that was only just in front of the onrushing Adam Reed.
Orient's next chance came from the same source when Porter's 13th minute cross was met at the near post by Mooney, whose header brought a diving stop from Cisak.
Nine minutes later Oldham gave the visitors their first moment of alarm when his curling shot almost turned into the perfect cross for Shefki Kuqi, whose attempt to meet the ball before it flew across goal wasn't far away from making contact.
After Matthew Spring sent a free kick over the top of the Oldham bar, Paul Rachubka had to make an excellent save to keep it at 0-0 on 35 minutes, denying Reuben Reid from close range after the O's switched off following a cleared corner and Kuqi lofted the ball back into the box.
The home side changed their goalkeeper at the break as Cisak's injury got the better of him and Dean Bouzanis replaced the Australian between the posts.
The first action of the second period came at the other end though, when Oldham won a free kick just outside the O's box and Youssouf M'changama's effort thudded into the wall.
Goalmouth incidents were few and far between in the next part of the game, but that should have been puncutated by a goal for the visitors on 65 when Bouzanis came out of his area and made a hash of an attempted clearance.
The ball dropped to Kevin Lisbie with the goal gaping, but he failed to hit the target with his first time effort.
There was no denying the visitors five minutes later though when Porter used his electrifying pace to surge clear of Bradley Diallo in the right channel and pick his pass well for Mooney, who couldn't miss from 10 yards.
Oldham could have hit back within five minutes when Rachubka left his line to try to deal with a spinning ball. It eluded his grasp and fell to Kuqi, but Terrell Forbes got across to make a superb saving tackle.
Orient were given a nervy final four minutes when Dickson was booked twice in the space of 60 seconds, the first for timewasting, the second for catching Keanu Marsh-Brown later by the by-line.
Still, Porter could have sealed it a couple of minutes later when he was played through on goal but Bouzanis made himself big and deflected the shot behind for a corner.
Five minutes of stoppage time were signalled and Chris Taylor was inches wide with a drive from the edge of the box, but the O's survived for a crucial victory.
Oldham: Cisak (Bouzanis 46); Lee, Tarkowski, M'Voto, Diallo; Taylor, Adeyemi, M'Changama, Bunn (Marsh-Brown 67); Reid (Simpson 67), Kuqi Subs: Tounkara, Belezika
Booked: Taylor
Leyton Orient: Rachubka; Forbes, Chorley, Leacock, Dickson; Jimmy Smith; Porter (Taiwo 89), Reed, Spring, Mooney (Andrew 83); Lisbie Subs: Ben Youssef, Laird, Lovelock (GK)

Charlton Athletic 2 - 0 Leyton Orient npower League 1
ORIENT were unable to halt Charlton Athletic's charge towards the npower League 1 title as the Addicks got the better of the east Londoners in Saturday's London derby at The Valley.
A goal at the start of the game from Scott Wagstaff and one at the end from Dany N'Guessan was enough to settle it as Charlton maintained their six-point gap at the head of the table.
It was a valiant performance from the Londoners, who gave the season-long table-toppers a game, but ultimately Charlton were able to assert their authority in the final scoreline.
If the visitors' plan was to keep it tight early on against their high-flying hosts, that idea was blown out of the water on just seven minutes when they were caught napping from a free kick.
Rhoys Wiggins was allowed to run unchallenged down the left channel into the penalty area, where he cut back for Wagstaff to finish from close range.
The home side thought they had doubled the lead shortly afterwards when Leon Cort rose powerfully to nod Dale Stephens' corner into the net. The crowd rose in celebration, but their joy was cut short by referee Mark Brown's whistle for a foul on Paul Rachubka.
Orient were in danger of being sunk by Charlton's whirlwind start, but they regrouped and so nearly grabbed a leveller with 25 minutes on the clock.
Adam Reed whipped in a corner from the left which was allowed to bounce in the hosts' box. The ball dropped to Ben Chorley, who shot goalwards with power, but Ben Hamer dived to his left to make the save.
Two minutes later former Addick Matthew Spring lined up an effort from range that drew a flying stop from Hamer in the Addicks goal.
Charlton weren't able to build on their advantage before the break, but they almost did five minutes after the restart when Rachubka had to make two excellent saves in quick succession.
Bradley Wright-Phillips was the first to be denied, when the O's stopper clawed away his effort after swivelling inside the box, then Rachubka got up quickly to save instinctively from Lee Cook on the rebound.
But the O's hung on in there and another Charlton old boy, Kevin Lisbie, had a chance on 68 when he headed Adam Reed's corner wide by the near post.
The home crowd were getting edgy, but their nerves were eased eight minutes from time when Cook picked up possession down the Orient right and crossed superbly for Dany N'Guessan to nod beyond a helpless Rachubka.
It killed off the O's challenge, who nevertheless still hold a five-point advantage over the bottom four.

Leyton Orient 0 - 3 Notts County npower League 1
ORIENT slumped to a third straight defeat on Friday when they were punished for not making the most of their chances by Notts County.
For 65 minutes it looked at though it could be a Good Friday for the O's as they looked bright and inventive, creating a host of goalscoring opportunities.
But after squandering them all, Damion Stewart opened the scoring for Notts County 20 minutes from the end and they never looked back.
Jeff Hughes and Lloyd Sam piled on the agony for the Londoners as the gap between them and the drop zone shrunk to four points.
Orient's Jimmy Smith had the first shot of the match, drilling over the top from range with six minutes on the clock and it kicked off a half of chances for the O's midfielder.
He was twice denied by former O's keeper Stuart Nelson, first when Dean Cox's 32nd minute cross took a nick off a County defender and fell to Smith at the far post. The former Chelsea man controlled well, but couldn't force past Nelson, who dived to his left to save.
He had to dive the same way to save from Smith again five minutes before the interval after a Cox free kick got stuck in the visitors' area.
Then Smith miscued a header after being picked out by Spring, but it wasn't only him the chances were falling to.
Nelson did well again to save from Kevin Lisbie's attempted lob after David Mooney flicked through and the offside flag stayed down on 21, while the same player headed just over from a Cox delivery.
At the other end Jamie Jones was making his long-awaited return after 11 months out with shoulder and wrist injuries, and his only duty before the break was to field a hopeful angled drive from Daniel Bogdanovic with 42 minutes.
County forced the first opening after the restart when a high ball fell out of the sky towards Jeff Hughes, but the County man couldn't control his volley and he sliced wide.
The opportunities soon switched back to the usual source again as Lisbie did well down the left and cut back to the edge of the box where Smith controlled his shot well but just missed the right hand post.
Smith just seemed to be in the thick of all the action, and midway through the half the O's crowd thought they should have had a penalty when he was clattered by Stewart as he entered the area, but referee David Webb was unmoved.
And then, with Smith off the pitch injured, County moved into the lead when Stewart profited from a real moment of fortune.
The visitors' centre back was able to fire into an empty net after Jones collected an Alan Sheehan cross and collided with Terrell Forbes, with the O's defender only knocking the loose ball to Stewart.
Adam Reed thought he had levelled immediately but a flag was raised for offside and County left Orient shell shocked with a second 14 minutes from time when the Hugheses combined, Lee touching on a Sam cross for Jeff to finish.
Orient's misery was completed in stoppage time by their former loanee Sam, who found the net after Jones parried a swerving shot from Jon Harley.
Leyton Orient: Jones; Leacock, Chorley, Forbes, Dickson; Jimmy Smith (Taiwo 71), Spring, Reed, Cox (Porter 78); Mooney, Lisbie Subs: Ben Youssef, Andrew, Rachubka (GK)

Exeter City 3 - 0 Leyton Orient npower League 1
LIAM SERCOMBE scored twice as Orient slumped to their second 3-0 defeat of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
Exeter City were the beneficiaries this time as Sercombe's second half double supplemented Jake Taylor's early opener.
It was a fourth consecutive defeat for the O's and one that leaves them still looking over their shoulders just four points above the drop zone.
Orient were caught cold right at the start of the game as Exeter established a lead with just four minutes on the clock.
Taylor was denied by Jamie Jones in the build up, but the home side kept the move alive with Alan Gow cutting back to the striker to roll home via the far post.
The O's were struggling to make an impression early on, although they were desperately close to a leveller on the half hour when Syam Ben Youssef met Dean Cox's corner with a header that bounced off Troy Archibald-Henville on the line and up onto the crossbar.
Exeter broke straight away and Taylor was a whisker away himself, striking the base of the far post with an angled shot across Jones.
David Mooney nodded wide from a Cox delivery as Orient began to get a foothold in the contest, but the home side might have had a penalty four minutes after the restart when Taylor cut across Dean Leacock and went down in the area, but referee Darren Sheldrake was unmoved.
Orient then thought they should have had a spot kick when Archibald-Henville pulled Adam Reed back as he burst through, but Sheldrake ruled the offence happened just outside the box.
Ryan Dickson delivered from the dead ball, which dropped to Ben Youssef inside the area, but he couldn't hit the target with his left foot.
Mooney nodded straight at Artur Krysiak after Ben Chorley flicked on Dickson's long throw, and as Exeter broke they made sure of the points.
They won a a corner when Jones was forced to tip over from Gow's long range effort and after the O's failed to get the flag kick clear, Sercombe drilled home from 15 yards.
The same player netted again on 63 to make it 3-0, firing home after Gow waltzed through the O's back line far too easily and passed for James Dunne to lay off.
Orient's challenge was over and the only good news to come through was that both Wycombe and Walsall had also fallen to defeat

Orient briefly held hope of causing an upset when Kevin Lisbie rifled home with 12 minutes on the clock, but Lee Williamson's equaliser just before the break gave the hosts the foothold they needed to take over. Michael Doyle fired United into the lead for the first time not long after the restart, and then it began to unravel for the O's. Article continues Advertisement Ryan Dickson was sent off for a reckless tackle, putting him out for the rest of the season, and Ched Evans wrapped it up late on with United's third. Orient's gameplan looked to be going perfectly when they snatched a lead early on. Lisbie's finish for his 10th goal of the season was one of real quality too as he drilled into the top left hand corner of the net with his weaker left foot after judging Jamie Jones' long kick better than the defender. As expected, the O's had to soak up heavy pressure from the home side, who were looking to extend a pre-match two-point lead over their city rivals Wednesday as the pair battle it out for second place. But Orient were looking a threat on the break and almost doubled the advantage on 29 minutes when Lisbie again found space on the edge of the Blades area but this time dragged his effort across goal. Jones did well to tip Stephen Quinn's bouncing volley over the top, but again Orient went close four minutes before the interval when Dean Cox fired just wide after being teed up by Lisbie 12 yards out. United didn't have to wait long after that for their leveller, as Williamson swept home from close range after Evans collected a clearing header from Ben Chorley to cut back. You felt Orient had to hold their lead until the interval to have a chance, but the real turning point came nine minutes after the break when United took advantage of Solomon Taiwo conceding possession in midfield. Doyle took over, driving deep into the O's half and picking his spot in the bottom right corner with his 20-yard shot. If that was a hammer blow to the visitors, worse was to follow seven minutes later when Dickson flew into a tackle on Williamson and was sent for an early bath. It was the second sending off of the Southampton defender's loan in E10 and his four-game ban will put him out for the rest of the season. United were by now well in command and Evans hit the post on the turn as they looked for a third. Ryan Flynn curled inches wide just after coming on from the bench and the home side eventually settled it seven minutes from the end. Evans has been in irresistable form for the Blades this season and he powered through the O's challenges to stroke home his 35th of the season. Cox just failed to get on the end of George Porter's drilled low cross with two to play, but the game was long gone by then as Orient fell to a fifth straight loss. Leyton Orient 2 - 2 Yeovil Town npower League 1
ORIENT'S nervy end to the 2011/12 season goes on after they threw away a two-goal lead late on against Yeovil Town on Saturday.
Maximum points would have taken the O's to the brink of safety, but they had to settle for just one after Andy Williams and Jon Obika stuck inside the final eight minutes to wipe out the O's lead.
Wycombe's defeat at Charlton means the Londoners gained a point on their relegation rivals, but the situation could have looked all the more healthy had they hung on to the advantage given to them by Kevin Lisbie's double. Article continues Advertisement
For so long it looked as though the points would be staying in east London after the hosts took advantage of a let off when Williams smashed a shot against the crossbar to move in front with 23 minutes on the clock.
Lisbie had already fired against the bar himself before he notched his and the O's first, finding himself all alone just eight yards from goal to head Dean Cox's cross into the net.
Yeovil could have levelled before the break when Obika broke the offside trap in the right channel and ran clear towards the O's goal but the Tottenham loanee failed to hit the target with just Jamie Jones to beat.
At the other end Adam Reed's low angled shot made Sam Walker get down quickly to his right to save as the score remained 1-0 to the home side at the break.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce and Lisbie were linking up well up front and giving the home side much more of an attacking threat than in recent weeks, but Yeovil had the first chance of the second period when Paul Huntington made a good run to the near post from a corner but didn't trouble Jones with his header.
Williams also shot over as the Glovers looked for an equaliser, but Orient were looking strong and took what seemed to be a giant stride towards the points when they scored a second 17 minutes from the end.
The goal owed much to Campbel-Ryce, who received the ball from Cox on halfway and sprinted down the left flank before clipping over a perfect cross for Lisbie to knock home his 12th goal of the season from close range.
But any thoughts of a comfortable finish to the game evaporated on 82 when the O's couldn't get a set piece clear and Williams was there to finish from in front of goal.
And that set piece Achilles heel showed itself again right at the death as the O's switched off after getting the first header clear from a left wing corner, leaving Obika in space at the far post to head Jonathan Franks' cross beyond Jones.

Hartlepool United 2 - 1 Leyton Orient npower League 1
ORIENT lost 2-1 at Hartlepool United but defeats for Wycombe, Chesterfield and Exeter means their survival fight has been settled ahead of the last day of the season.
The O's sit four points clear of the drop zone with one game left to play so now can't be caught by those below them.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce's 34th minute goal looked for a while to be earning the Londoners a point at Victoria Park, but the strikes either side of that by Antony Sweeney and Ryan Noble gave the home side the points.
After a quiet start it was the O's who had the first chance on 13 minutes when Dean Cox collected a clearance from his corner and delivered again for Kevin Lisbie, whose header drew an excellent save from Scott Flinders.
10 minutes later the home side were in front and it was a simple finish for Sweeney, who tucked home from close range after the visitors failed to clear a Neil Austin cross.
Just after the half hour Hartlepool created a decent chance for a second as Andy Monkhouse got in down the left and cut back from close to the by-line but this time Sweeney couldn't hit the target when in a good position.
Two minutes later the O's were level and a fine goal it was too as Lisbie and Campbell-Ryce combined to great effect.
It was Lisbie who picked the ball up just inside the Hartlepool half and released his strike partner in the left channel, who carried the ball into the box and coolly slotted past Flinders in the home goal.
After Matthew Spring and Noble both shot waywardly at the start of the second period, the O's forged a golden opportunity to move into the lead with 52 minutes on the clock when Jimmy Smith fed Lisbie through.
Flinders was out to the edge of his box quickly and Lisbie seemed to be in two minds as he approached him whether to go around the keeper or shoot. He eventually prodded towards goal but the Pools stopper was able to save.
Campbell-Ryce and Lisbie linked up well again on the hour as the former's diagonal ball was brought down by the latter just outside the box, but his lofted shot was directed too high and looped over the bar.
But it was Hartlepool who struck the decisive goal 17 minutes from the end when Evan Horwood crossed from the left and Noble planted his header into the bottom right hand corner.
With the news coming through that both Wycombe and Chesterfield were winning at that stage, it looked as though the stage was set for a nervy last day showdown, but as Yeovil and Notts County both turned their games around, it left the O's able to travel home in the knowledge that they'd be playing League 1 football again next season.

LOFC - Reed returns to Sunderland Adam Reed has seen his loan spell with Orient expire and has returned to his parent club Sunderland. The 20 year-old made eleven appearances for The O's.
The Hartlepool born youngster joined Orient on deadline day in March along with Jamal Campbell-Ryce and made his debut on Saturday 10th March 2012 in a 2-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers.
Reed was a classy, yet tough player who could pick out a pass but would also fly into a tackle and has been one of the better performers in a terribly poor Orient side.
The Mackem loanee played his last Orient game at his hometown club, Hartlepool United, where Orient lost 2-1.
VitalOrient would like to thank Adam for his contribution whilst in an Orient shirt and wish him the best of luck in the future.
