“It was different than the last time I played. I was a bit disappointed; it was not what I expected,” wika ni Schrock na naglaro sa field noong 2011 laban sa Kuwait. “It’s an absolute embarrassment,” wika ni Weiss. “The people who are handling these matters should really think deep because eventually, these players, they lose interest,” pahabol ni Weiss. “After the Asian Five Nation Rugby Tournament in May, we are going to proceed with our plan to convert the Rizal Memorial into an artificial pitch. This will be completely different from the other artificial pitch in the country because we are spending extra P5 million for a water absorption system that will be under the artificial turf,” wika ni Gomez. “The inside lane will also be renovated to level the drainage of the field. The situation yesterday (Sunday) will not happen with this new field,” pagtitiyak ni Gomez. www.philstar.com/psn-palaro/2013/03/26/924019/football-pitch-ipapagawa-ng-psc-matapos-bahain

From Twitter today: @abaccordero Rizal Memorial Sports Complex for sale. I really don't see it happening. Now the question will be, who will be interested to buy the complex? I just hope they will improve the complex and not redevelop the area into some mall or condo.

Aw man, Rizal Memorial Complex is a historic place. I'd hate to see it branded. It has Jose Rizal's name on it! But I do hope the place gets a super-makeover for the purposes it currently serves.

Peping seeks sale of RMSC for P5 billion By June Navarro Philippine Daily Inquirer The Philippine Olympic Committee wants to sell the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Malate, Manila, and use the proceeds to build a modern training facility either in Clark Field or Rizal province. POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. announced the possible sale of the complex built in 1934 before the POC general assembly yesterday, saying he had explored this possibility with former President Joseph Estrada, a political ally and mayor-elect of Manila. “I already had preliminary talks with him (Estrada) and it seems he likes the idea,” said Cojuangco. “We’ll discuss it further when he formally assumes office next month.” The RMSC remains a property of Manila although the complex is controlled by the national government through the Philippine Sports Commission. Earlier attempts to sell RMSC bogged down due to disagreements on revenue sharing between Manila and the national government. The 10-hectare venue, where majority of the national athletes train, has a present zonal value of P5 billion. The proposed training center will house the national training pool and provide shelter and livelihood to former athletes who earned honors for the country. sports.inquirer.net/102297/peping-seeks-sale-of-rmsc-for-p5-billion

This is what you get when ownership disputes get in the way in improving these sports facilities. The private sector might not be aware on the current state of RMSC, and redeveloping the area will be worse than expected should the complex be sold to some magnate.

If they ever sell RMC, these politicians(yes POC leadership are made up of politicians and their crony's) will definitely partake of that money and we will never get anything close to or resembling all the facilities in RMC. We'll probably get a football pitch a small covered basketball court and lose all the tennis, archery etc space that make up RMC now. I say don't sell, or rather I hope they never agree on anything and leave RMC alone.

Three mall giants, De La Salle among interested buyers of Rizal sports complexBy Reuben Terrado June 03, 2013, 05:11 pm A BIDDING war among three mall giants and a top university is expected once a plan to put the historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex up for sale finally pushes through. Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Ricardo Garcia said on Monday that De La Salle and the SM Group of Companies are two of four parties that have shown interest in buying the property which for decades has stood as the home of Philippine sports. Long-stymied plans to sell the historic venue along Vito Cruz in Manila and build a modern national sports complex in less-congested areas like Clark in Angeles City were revived by Philippine Olympic Committee president Peping Cojuangco shortly after ally Joseph Estrada's victory in the Manila mayoralty race. While the PSC supervises the venue on behalf of the national government, the City of Manila owns the land where the complex stands. “La Salle and SM (are two of them) but there are actually four,” Garcia said of the interested buyers during the PSC’s weekly press briefing on Monday. Garcia declined to identify the two other interested parties but a separate Spin.ph source said Robinsons Land and Ayala Corporation have also looked into the possibility of buying the Rizal complex. Of the four, the source said De La Salle has been the most aggressive buyer since it sits right next to the complex and buying even a portion of the property is the only way it could pursue a long-delayed expansion of its campus. So interested is the Taft-based school that it has taken a 'name your price' stand in the negotiations, sources said. “They have all the resources,” said the source of De La Salle. “Parang ‘name your price’ sila. They are not worried about the price. That’s how interested they are.” The source said there was a previous plan to sell to La Salle a part of the Rizal Complex that is closest to them. That includes the land where the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Tennis Center, swimming pool, and the boxing gym currently sits. Garcia said previous talks with outgoing Manila mayor Alfredo Lim regarding the sale of the sports complex bogged down. He didn't cite any reason, but the source said that the parties could not agree on how the proceeds will be divided. “There were some differences but later on, there were changes. But it didn’t push through,” Garcia said. Cojuangco had announced during a recent POC general assembly that he had initial talks with mayor-elect Estrada about the sale of the Rizal sports complex. Cojuangco is an ally of Vice President Jejomar Binay, who along with Estrada are the leaders in the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) party. Cojuangco's wife Tingting even ran for a Senate seat under the UNA banner during the recent midterm elections. Newly elected Pampanga Rep. Yeng Guiao has also offered to lead the push for an Act of Congress that could facilitate the sale of the Rizal complex. The concurrent Rain or Shine coach has backed plans to put up a national sports complex in Clark, which sits in his district. Garcia said that they will have to wait for Estrada to officially take office before any talks could continue. “It’s unfair to us that we announce that we have the right to sell (the property) even before the good mayor can sit down as mayor. I guess all of this will have to wait until Mayor Estrada can sit down (and said) that there is such an intention of selling the Rizal Memorial,” said Garcia. www.spin.ph/sports/psc-poc/news/rizal-memorial-la-salle-story

I think that RMS is already good with a few renovations it would become a decent FIFA certified stadium.

Special Report: PSC pushing sale of historic Rizal Memorial Sports ComplexJoshua Lopez, News5 · Wednesday, June 19, 2013 · 5:14 pm The historic Rizal Memorial Sports Complex has been the site of many triumphs of Filipino athletes. Built in 1934, it was one of the first major sports facilities in Asia. Just last March, the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium hosted the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers. During one match between the Philippines and Cambodia, heavy rains resulted in flooding in the pitch, drawing criticism from players and officials of the Azkals. Almost eight decades have left the Rizal Memorial complex with many problems. A quick trip to the bleachers of the football stadium reveals many cracks in the structures, a sign of just how old the facility is. According to Prof. Oscar Santelices, the sports science chairman of the University of the Philippines College of Human Kinetics, the move to transfer the athletes’ main training facility makes sense. “With the present condition in Manila which is populated, I guess transferring to another location would be a better option,” he said. The Philippine Sports Commission is pushing for the sale of Rizal Memorial. While the agency owns the structure, the City of Manila is claiming ownership of the land on which the complex stands. A sale, according to PSC chairman Richie Garcia, would allow the national government and the city to split the proceeds. He estimates the sale would bring P5 to P10 billion to the country’s coffers. “That issue has been discussed before, kay [former Manila] mayor [Alfredo] Lim pa,” Garcia told News5. “We had sort of an agreement, parang nagkasundo sa mga kundisyones. Later on, hindi natuloy.” Garcia said he’s planning to discuss the issue anew with the city’s new mayor, Joseph Estrada, who defeated Lim in last month’s elections. But there is vehement opposition to the PSC plan, given the history of the complex. Rizal Memorial hosted the 1934 Far Eastern Championship Games and 1954 Asian Games, as well as Southeast Asian Games in 1981, 1991, and 2005. Rene Herrera, who represented the country in the London Olympics last year, is among a group of athletes against such a move. “Sana gawin na lang nilang heritage [site] ito o kaya i-reconstruct nila,” said Herrera. Veteran sportswriter Eddie Alinea, president of the the Sports Communicators’ Organization of the Philippines, also opposed the move. “Kung sino man ang may sabi na ibebenta yun eh sira ulo,” he told News5. “Yung City of Manila na pagmamay-ari ang lupa at saka yung mga infrastructure doon pagmamay-ari ng national government.” www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/special-report-psc-pushing-sale-of-historic-rizal-memorial-sports-complex
