AFC sets ratings of all the Asian countries' football leagues (associations) every 2 years based on the football competitiveness, professionalism, marketability, and financial status. According to that, each countries are given a certain number of entry slots in 3 different-level competitions.
- Asia Champions League (Level 1)
4 clubs from : South Korea, Japan, China, Iran, Saudi Arabia 3 clubs from : UAE 2 clubs from : Australia, Qatar, Uzbekistan 1 club from : Indonesia
And 2 more clubs are decided via Playoffs among 8 clubs
*Playoffs entry 1 Club from : Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Qatar, Syria, India plus, last year's AFC Cup(level2) champion and runners-up
*6 losers of the playoffs go to AFC Cup
- AFC Cup (Level 2)
2 Clubs from : Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Yemen, Oman, Maldives, Lebanon, Hong Kong 1 Club from : Qatar, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Bahrain, India, Malaysia And 6 more Clubs : AFC Champions League play-offs losers
- AFC President's Cup (Level 3)
Basically, all the remaining countries who doesn't get a slot either in AFC Champions League or AFC Cup can send their champion club in this competition. A total of these 21 countries are :
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Guam, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, North Korea, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan.
However, only 12 countries are actually sending clubs currently. They are:
Tajikistan, Nepal, Taiwan, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Turkmenistan and Palestine .
So in conclusion, no we don't belong to AFC Champions League or even AFC Cup yet. We have to develop the league first to meet the AFC's criteria, which i think will take quite some time. Until that we can send our champion only to AFC President's Cup.
