The following is Manuel Ott's interview with 11 Freunde, a Germany sports magazine. The interview was translated in English as best as we could, some words may either be incorrect grammar or does not make sense at all. For the original interview in German, visit www.11freunde.de/international/127678/ich_dachte_an_einen_irrtumA Ingolstädter for the Philippines "I thought of a mistake" Interview: Ron Ulrich Image: Imago Manuel Ott in Germany is still a fairly unknown footballers. But the youngster from FC Ingolstadt is now national player of the Philippines. Why his face is soon to see the entire country, he explained to us here.Manuel Ott, play in the amateur team FC Ingolstadt and since January national player of the Philippines. How did that happen? My mother is Filipina, my father German. But I feel since my youth, the Philippines, very connected, we are also used to fly there every year. In recent years it has not worked because of football to all that I had little time. In October 2009, then the Philippine Association has asked me if I want to contest for the U19 selection qualifiers. The Philippines has seconded a Scout who holds the lookout for talent in Germany. This I must have probably discovered. Was it not clear for you? Sure. Mainly because they wanted me initially only for the Under-21 team and later was the senior national interest. Since I've first thought that it was a mistake and have written to the wrong. It all happened before Christmas and we had to really bend over backwards to my school indemnify me for the time in January with the senior team. It all went off very quickly. Were you excited or the offer directly to you once needed some thinking time? I was immediately hooked, wanted to gain important experience directly. For me it was a huge opportunity. And what did your parents and your club, FC Ingolstadt, the step to say? My mother was very proud. But my father was standing right behind me and has advised me to take this step. He also loves the Philippines. My coach advised me in Ingolstadt also used to play for the Philippines in order to prove to me there. For sure the games in the Philippines are associated with considerable travel stress, which might displease a club at the termination of a player, too. How long this takes a flight? I fly from Munich to Dubai Sun 6:00 to 7:00 hours. From Dubai, it then goes on, it takes more than nine to eight hours. But the club supports me fully and evaluates it as positive that I gain valuable experience. The problem is the scheme with the school. How does it work? I'm in the first year high-school, so in the eleventh grade. Actually, I'm used to that it will close. I have played for the U13 TSV Munich 1860 and had in all the years have always been trying to get everything under one roof. Now the situation is of course more difficult, but the next trip with the Philippine national team is not until the summer rather than in Belgium. I will somehow hinbekommen everything already. What is it from the games with the U19 and the senior team with you in mind stuck? The lawn, the stadiums, the fun, team-mates - all of this was with the bombastic. It will be much more independent from such trips, you learn not to be so dependent of the parents. But I was able to develop footballing me because I played in the national team against the elderly. As you already noticed the physical difference quickly.

Looks like Manny Ott will be joining the team in June acc. to Coach Weiss in preparation for WC qualifiers. Here is an interesting excerpt from an interview he gave in 11/10:
SPOX: Why is it so important to you, to play for the Philippines, even though the trips are so cumbersome and time consuming?
Ott: This is our mentality. Schröck Stephan and I are indeed raised in Germany and have old German name, but we bear the Philippines in our hearts. One can not describe the feeling right, but we are all closer together, regardless of whether the country in which we indicated.
SPOX: What is the integration of new players, the central task of the new coach to be next?
Ott: I would say: the development of its own, Filipino philosophy. The biggest problem is that the players come from many different leagues and have grown so different footballing terms. Some prefer the short passing game, the other hit the ball straight forward, or try it with long diagonal passes. If the different styles from Germany, the Netherlands, England, Iceland and the United States can be mixed, we would take a big step forward.

It is indeed an interesting problem for Coach Weiss to integrate into the team players from all over the world who are all used to different styles. That is one of the major reasons why I found watching the team so fascinating. It is a good thing that they will have a long training camp this summer so they can get used to each other and learn to accommodate each other's tendencies and styles and gel in time for WC qualifiers.

MATCH REPORT:
Aug 27 2011 Bayern Alzenau 1 - 4 Ingolstadt II
Ott's team comfortably beat Bayern Alzenau 4 to 1 Saturday. Manny's team sits 8th and BA is at 12th in the 18 team Regionalliga Sud(South) league. Manny subbed in at the 67th minute when they were ahead 3 goals to none. Manny has now subbed-in, 2 games in a row. Perhaps a sign of confidence toward the 19 year old Fil-German player. Go Manny!

If my deductions are right Manny Ott's contract is indeed finished with Ingolstadt II. Meanwhile, Santi Araneta, has just offered him (partly or fully in jest?) a job with Kaya! Manny replied that he will think about it! Could we see Manny Ott in the UFL??
I see a blog entry coming up!
He is still in Manila and will be leaving tomorrow. But seriously, I hope he stays and play in German where he can continue to get better.
