Fil-Spanish defender Carli Olaivar de Murga arriving Monday to join Azkals. Olaivar, 22, plays for 3rd div Racing Club Portuense n Spain
The team he plays for has 2 draws so far in their season. He apparently started and played 90 minutes in the 2nd game of the season, a 2-2 draw against CD Alcala but did not play in the club's first game, a 1-1 draw against Recreativo Huelva B.

Wow a DEFENDER!! Good work cjeagle, great twitter snooping b3lowzro, and websites info! I looked at his files in another site, about him and his team, he is no longer listed as a starter after his second match, I wonder why? Requested leave to become an International? He sure does look Filipino though. By the way did you notice here: www.racingportuense.es/index.php?page=389He has a teammate nicknamed "KIKE" and another with a last name, or rather maiden name of "". I'm just saying... I wonder if Angel's brother is still going to try out for the Philippine NT next year, still? My German is better than my Spanish! Its a pain reading up on his teams website. Should've paid attention in school!

I believe he is the alternate at right back for the team. Kike(also a common nickname in Brazil) is the starter and was apparently unavailable in the 2nd game so Carli played instead, which is good for us as he might not have been released otherwise.
To avoid confusion as in Angel's case, just wanted to make it clear that his name is Carlos Alberto. Kind of funny that cedelpft, a journalist forgot that little tidbit. It got everybody confused in facebook.

Well, he's got an understanding club 'cause he's still got 3 games in September and 1 in October. I wonder if he really pushed his club to try out for the Azkals? When there's a "will" there's a way...
Go Carli!!

To avoid confusion as in Angel's case, just wanted to make it clear that his name is Carlos Alberto and I believe his mother's name is Martinez. Kind of funny that cedelpft, a journalist forgot that little tidbit. It got everybody confused in facebook. Remember Spanish naming customs? 1st surname of a Spanish name is the father's; the 2nd one is the mother's. Maybe cedelfpt got quite confused with that. Hahah. ;D

I wonder if he was named after that famous Brazilian defender in the 70's, Carlos Alberto Torres, as well as other Brazilian footballers who also go by that name(Carlos Alberto).
Since he is being referred to now as Carli Olaivar, I presume that his father's name is Olaivar then, which is a little confusing since you usually list your father's name first in the Spanish system, and that is not the case in his profile on the teampage. I wonder what his mother's maiden name(presumably his Filipino side) would be then?

In my quest to get to know this kid much better, I came upon this paragraph from his teams website. I suppose I answered my question about how he was able to leave while his team still had games to play. Reading it in Spanish was too slow, so translation courtesy of google: The only casualty is the de Carli, who has been summoned by the Philippine Football Team (sub 23) and leave tomorrow bound for Manila, the capital of the archipelago to participate in the team's Asian and fight for a place at the look of the complete coach. Can't wait to see this guy play. Although I have more questions such as: will he try out, leave, then just come back for the SEAG? Or play in the LT Cup too?? Hmmmm... www.racingportuense.es/index.php?section=news&cmd=details&newsid=663

Apparently they found out about this guy through Angel Guirado. He got in touch with Angel who then passed it on to Rafa and then to the team.
Wiking,
In regards to his Long Teng Cup participation at the end of September, I seriously doubt that his team will allow him to be away that long, unless he is no longer in their plans.

Response on his facebook page by the admin about his name:
MESSAGE FROM SPAIN: His family name MARTINEZ DE MURGA... (fathers last name) and OLAIVAR maiden name (mothers family name) BUT; he always use his mother families name (OLAIVAR) thank you so much: HAVE A NICE DAY
He prefers using his mothers name so we should call him Carli Olaivar. However in our system his name would be Carlos Alberto Olaivar Martinez de Murga.

Fil-Spanish Carli De Murga a potent weapon to boost Azkals
The Philippine Azkals added another potent weapon to their depleted line-up for the upcoming Long Teng Cup in Taiwan.
Azkals manager Dan Palami said Fil-Spanish defender Carli Olai-Var De Murga will join the team for the tournament, which is from September 28 to October 4.
The 22-year-old de Murga played for Spanish 3rd division squad Racing Club Portuense.
He was recommended to the Azkals by Fil-Spanish striker Angel Guirado.
De Murga will fill in for Fil-British Rob Gier, who will be unavailable for the Long Teng Cup.
The Philippines will be competing against Hong Kong, Macau and host Taiwan. Published in ABS-CBN News.
