Just wanted to mention Rick Olivares has occasionally made a few mistakes. I like reading his articles and most of the time he got his facts right, but he has made a few errors in the past.
Having said that, it is possible Dan offered Christiaens a tempting contract with the added incentive of getting plenty of time with the national team. That would be hard to turn down.
Objectively though, I prefer he should stay in Europe so he can develop further, possibly rising up the ranks to a higher level.

This kid is a promising prospect, I agree with you cjeagle that he should continue his development further out there in Europe.

I watched the UFL opening last Saturday on AKTV, and I was shocked that there was a certain "J. Christiaens" in the Global FC lineup shown in the graphics.
I will be very, very intrigued if this kid will be playing here, either in the Cup or the League proper. But honestly, I really want him to stay in Europe.

Jeffrey Christiaens is a year older than Jacques and Angelo and is the only one out of the 3 to be out of school. From information(from PM) given by carabao, our Belgian based member:
"...he has permission from his employer since he took absence without pay..."
Perhaps he is staying in the Philippines until after SEAG and Dan Palami, smartly picked him up to play for Global to keep his match fitness??

I would say Global is loaning him for a while until SEAG or even until the transfer window in January. If he decides to terminate his contract with Torhout, can't blame him for that. But still I want him to stay in Europe.

Global has offered Christiaens a contract, but Jeffrey refused. He thinks it's better for him to stay at Torhout because he can improve his skills here in Belgium, make more money and work here. I'm positive that staying with his club is the best choice.

I myself would like for Jeff to be based in Europe because of the probability that he'll be a better player.
He, IMHO, will eventually replace Chieffy in the lineup.

He, IMHO, will eventually replace Chieffy in the lineup. You're right Sir JP! His style of play is very similar to Chieffy. But unless Iain Ramsay of Adelaide United decides to play for the Philippines, Jeffrey may have to wait for a little longer.

JUST IN:Jeffrey Christiaens is in the 20-man squad for Global FC in today's UFL Cup Round of 16 game against Philippine Army FC. He's wearing the #21 jersey and is currently a starter. He played as a left winger. "azkal jeffrey christiaens will make his debut for global fc wearing the number 21" -from the PHL Azkals Facebook page If this is Christiaens in the Global FC lineup, does this mean he is just training for the club like Gino Pavone did during the ICanServe tourney? Or is he planning to transfer to Global by the January transfer window, apparently for the UFL league proper? Could this just be a loan contract or something long-term? I still feel he needs to stay in Europe. This could be a step down for him career-wise.

Here's the photo of Global's XI last game. Christiaens is at the top left.
From information (from PM) given by carabao, our Belgian based member: I agree that he should stay in Belgium, the level is much higher than what is offered in the Philippines . I m afraid for the rest of the Azkal players who decide to stay there ( Guirardo, younghusbands, hartmanns) in think that in 1 or 2 years time they will be completely outplayed by european based players . you can only improve if you have to compete against good or better opponents . also, what i know of traininglevel there is not really up to the task of making them better .I understand how our other foreign-based national players who decided to stay here intended to join our local league. It's not yet competitive, but having them here is a great benefit. Jeff C should've gone home to Belgium after the SEA Games, but having him for Global is definitely a plus for us. But we shouldn't disregard the fact that they must maintain their competitive form. What a waste if Jeff loses his edge if he doesn't improve here in the UFL. But for the improvement of Pinoy football, I welcome Jeff here in the Philippines. (P.S. I still have to get information if his status with Global is training, on loan or has sealed a long-term deal.)

Jeff C played in UFL Cup for Global Fc so he must have signed a contract with them , on loan or long-term contract ? If not he cant be eligble to play for Global Fc.

Jeff C played in UFL Cup for Global Fc so he must have signed a contract with them , on loan or long-term contract ? If not he cant be eligble to play for Global Fc. That's what I'm still wondering. I'm still waiting confirmation from our Belgium-based members if Jeff's contract is just a loan, as it was said earlier in this thread that he took a leave without pay from his current employer, which could mean his club or whatever. If indeed he's terminating his Torhout contract by the next transfer window, then that's another thing to wonder about if he's sealing a deal with Global FC for the UFL proper. I'm actually itching to edit his Wiki page.

I've checked KM Torhout's website, but there's no news about the current situation of Jeffrey. I will let you guys know if I find something on their website in the following days.

Thanks Gerardo.
The Wiki page is already indicating that Christiaens is "on loan" to Global FC, but I'm not sure if it's verified. If you can provide confirmations, I'll cite it right away.
I'm still thinking Christiaens is just on loan to Torhout. If he is to be released by January, it'll be a mixed bag for his career IMHO.
