Ok I'msure this will be a provacative post, but here goes - just meant in a positive way and not meant to provoke any warfare! ;D I was in a meeting today with our school coaches, wherein I asked a question about the Fifa Youth Festival in the south this past June. I asked why our boys in the NCR did not have a similar event? I was told by one of the top coaches in the NCR, that FIFA is focusing their efforts in the provinces of the south in the belief that this area is neglected and deserving of their attention. Well, I wonder. Our boys played Ateneo de Davao, and were CRUSHED. I have asked our coaches to enter our boys in some competitions in the south to test them, and was told to think hard if we really want to do this, as they would likely be beaten by scores of 10-0 or even as bad as 15-0. Are the teams in the south really that good? Are rhey really that much better than the so-called priviledged teams in the NCR? IF SO, WHY DOES FIFA CONSIDER THE SOUTH MORE DESERVING WHEN THEIR TEAMS ARE ALREADY SO MUCH MORE ADVANCED THAN OUR BOYS HERE IN NCR? Shouldn't FIFA be supporting the sport where there is the most need, not where the programs are already producing the best players???

so you're saying fifa should give the support sa north? where was fifa when the south was still developing their talents? before you even say the north deserves it more than the south, let the north develop its own talents without the help of fifa just like the south did. have you even seen the football fields of the far flung provinces of the central part and south part of our country? mabibilang lang manda nilang football fields as compared here in the north po.
the south has been neglected long enough in many departments like govt projects, budgets, programs, infrastructures etc etc as compared to the north. tapos eto football lang iiyak-iyak ka na parang napakalaki ng naluge dito sa north. lols
di na kasalanan ng visayas at mindanao yan if some of them played other sports like boxing and football at hindi puro basketball. true there are some parts here in luzon that plays football but not as large a concentration as those in visayas and mindanao.
so again, develop north's talent first without fifa's help just like the south did before you even say who deserves fifa's help.
give due to what is due to them because it was them who played this game when many didn't even give a damn about it.

Please don't get me wrong. I am not saying this is how it should be. I am just posing the question - and knew it would create a controversy.
So here it is again simply stated - It seems FIFA wants to invest in football for the "provinces" especially the south to help develop football in the Philippines. However, it seems that I read an overwhelming amount of material in these forums and elsewhere that "the best players in the Philippines come from the south". So the question is, if the best players are already coming from the south, should FIFA be focusing exclusively on the south since these areas are already producing the best players?
By the way, I feel it is incorrect to bring other elements of govt focus and expenditures etc into the picture, we are not talking about building roads, we are talking strictly about football here. Fifa is not out to build roads.

I believe the reason why FIFA is focusing on the south is because of the lack of infrastructure. While the NCR may be lacking in player development, the south is severely lacking in facilities. simply put, the quality seeds are in the south, they just don't have the soil to grow.
In the same way as, I presume, the North will be the IBF's focus should baseball receive the attention that football is enjoying at the moment.

hi benzgm - thanks for your reasoned reply! i have spent a great deal of time in cebu but only around the city itself. frankly, it seems the grassroots facilities there are not too different from what i see around here in the manila metro area, leading me to wonder more what the real differences are? having said this, i have actually spent 0 time in any other places in the south, so my opinion is not worth much on this point As a point of conjecture, i can believe that what people are saying about facilities in the south are true. it would be helpful though if a neutral party did a real study on this point, i suspect there are a great numberof misconceptions flying around regarding infrastructure and facilities in both the north and the south. in my original post, i was actually not wondering so much about infrastructure, but about a FIFA youth festival run in the south which attracted 400 kids, and why such events are not held throughout the philippines including the north?
