Philippines plans to join AFC President’s CupOCTOBER 8 (Sugod.com) – In a message during the United Football Cup opening ceremony, Philippines declared its plan to join the AFC President’s Cup. If Philippines managed to enter the said club-level competition, they will become the 13th member association to compete in the tournament for emerging countries in Asia. In this year’s edition, twelve clubs have participated namely Abahani Limited (Bangladesh), Yeedzin (Bhutan), Phnom Penh Crown (Cambodia), Taiwan Power Company (Chinese Taipei), Neftchi Kochkor-Ata (Kyrgyztan), Yadanarbon (Myanmar), Nepal Police Club (Nepal), WAPDA (Pakistan), Jabal Al Mukaber (Palestine), Don Bosco (Sri Lanka), Istiqlol (Tajikistan) and Balkan (Turkmenistan). Chinese Taipei’s Taiwan Power Company F.C. lifted the champions trophy in the recently concluded 2011 AFC President’s Cup with Chen Po-Liang declared as best player while Ho Ming-tsan bagged the top goalscorer award. Meanwhile, Kyrgyztan’s Neftchi Kochkor-Ata were given the Fair Play Award. sugod.com/11787/philippines-plans-to-join-afc-presidents-cup/

I think it will be too late for the UFL to join the 2012 AFC President's Cup. The PFF first have to send a request to the AFC to be included in next years Cup and then submit documents to show we can fulfill the required criteria including venues, number of teams, accommodations, etc. I think the deadline for submitting the documents is on Oct. 14, 2011 a few days from now for next year's cup. The AFC has to arrange teams in groups with 12 teams participating, and since Myanmar is planning to enter a higher level tournament next year, the AFC Cup, there is a vacancy. However that seems to have been filled by Mongolia who has submitted their request months ago and I presume are in the process of sending the required documents. So best guess, is the earliest we can join is 2013. Here is the article from the AFC stating the deadline for Mongolia to submit documents: www.the-afc.com/en/news-centre/inside-afc/676-afc-news/35878-mongolia-eyes-pres-cup-2012After the documents are submitted, the AFC has to inspect the venues to see if they comply with all the requirements so it is a long involved process.

Yup too bad, seriously though if you're a Filipino soccer fan and you look at next years(2012) season, UFL, AFC CC, Friendlies, LTC(hope they invite us again) including the UFL and SEAG this year. Its just incredible how we've finally got this ball rolling. Its gonna be a good year next year!

Well that would be an expensive venture for Philippine Football, but, why not, it will be good for the Philippines. I hope the league will be professional for the next couple of years

Yes, we need some international competitions for our local clubs. Chance to shoot for a treble too: UFL League, UFL Cup and AFC President's Cup.

Here's cjeagle's reply to jonny's blog post:
cjeagle said... I already mentioned this before. The deadline given for applying was in the 3rd week of October 2011. I even commented in the UFL facebook page on this a few days before that deadline passed. Since the PFF and the UFL did not apply by then, it would have been too late. The PFF needed to register the UFL as a professional league and submit all the documents in regards to venue, officiating and league and club participation before that date. This all takes time. 2013 was the earliest we could have joined. Here is an article on Mongolia joining with the deadline mentioned. www.the-afc.com/en/news-centre/inside-afc/676-afc-news/35878-mongolia-eyes-pres-cup-2012

Oh! Too bad our football clubs couldn't be able to join President's Cup this year.. but I could wait for 2013. I think 2013 would be the best time for us to join the said event because the UFL is still gaining momentum right now.. The UFL is still not that fully established yet, nor is it officially recognized as the national league. But with the way things are going on right now i think it would be an exciting season for UFL next year. and With the PFF's plan on turfing Phil Sports complex next year and recent proposals on turfing UMak (fingers crossed).. better pitches would surely improve the playing level of our teams. So, joining in 2013 is not that bad at all.. and of course by that time there would be more fans.. hopefully!!

Just a thought...
Shouldn't the Philippine representative to the President's Cup come from the PFF-Smart Club Championships, and not the UFL?
