Bob Guerrero was a little boring today during the CF Inter de Madrid match coverage. His voice was quite mellow and toned-down than last time he commentated (maybe he listened to critics like us?) But he mistakenly referred Sacapaño's and Mercado's birthplace as "Negros Oriental," when he must mean "Negros Occidental." But I think he would probably apologize anytime now. I should've done that "drinking game," because of his "you know Darren," "(insert player here) with some ROOOOMMMM," and all the usual giddy mode of Bob.
Darren is still his normal, dry, yet prim and proper self. Yet he was a smooth operator in his commentary for this match. He admitted that the play of CFIM is so different from those from England. Nice explanation of those goals they did.
Dyan Castillejo is the still the sports journalist who's got the banter but still misses it sometimes.
Ronnie Nathanielsz? I'm just scratching my head over his interviews with Nonong Araneta and Dan Palami.
TJ Manotoc, perfect show host for the future matches ahead, but he has to work with his camera presence.
Finally, I never thought Ginger Conejero, an entertainment correspondent for ABS-CBN who did the telethon coverage, could do the American accent well! And she's gorgeous on cam with her presence.

Re: Ginger that might have been her natural accent all along. Major networks have their talents go through "pang-masa" courses in the entertainment field. I'm just speculating about her though. Speaking of courses, is there such a class for sports commentating?

Finally! Bob Guerrero and Darren Hartmann mentions the UFL during the friendly with Icheon Citizens FC! Santi Araneta must be in cloud nine right now hearing that Bob & Darren mentioning the UFL and the UFL clubs of our local players (although they'll be risking getting scolded by ABS-CBN producers. ). During pre-game, when I heard of "Loyola Meralco Sparks" and "Kaya FC" when Bob mentioned the YH bros and Anton & co. weren't available, I was like singing "Hallelujah!" This definitely means they desire to break barriers of network wars just to mention where our local booters play with. Great job! On to my thoughts: Bob... Bob... Bob... I will never miss doing the drinking game again with the "X with some RRRROOOOMMM!!!," "you know Darren," and "beautiful passing/shot from Y." I will always be excited to hear the giddy mode of Bob while drinking from big pitcher of orange juice ( alone!) with popcorn on the side! Anyway, he's still the decent one to commentate on these kind of games. He's really intelligent in knowing the players by face, including the visiting team. I didn't really memorize the Korean players well, but Bob does the job well for me. And he did commend on the Korean team, even saying, "Is this an English club?" ;D Darren looked always dapper, the prim and proper guy there. And that's a fact considering he just came fresh from playing a UFL game for the Nomads against Navy at UMak! He didn't look tired or haggard at all even on cam. Well, his commentating is the typical one, dry yet informative. He credited his Korean coach at Loyola Meralco Sparks and told that Korean football is one of the most excellent styles he has seen. During the penalty shootout, he clearly remembered doing these kinds of play when he was still in England. Dyan Castillejo is a perfect interviewer. 'Nuff said. Ronnie Nathanielsz... go back to you boxing and basketball jobs, will yeah?! And oh, Ebong Joson/Blue Haired Fanatic is just awesome hosting the program in Rizal!

IIRC, it was a misunderstanding, but this has been addressed. Hopefully, this means more United Football League mentions in the future national team broadcasts on ABS-CBN.
Network Wars have no place in sports.

Why not mention the UFL? AKTV owns the free TV rights to the Premiership here in the Philippines; does this also mean whenever Bob's talking about Neil Etheridge on Studio 23, he can't mention "Fulham", and would instead say, "a certain club at a certain top-tier league in England"? LOL.

Ok. So I'm going to make a lot negative remarks. And I know this board is only about the commentators, but I'll also talking about what Studio 23 is doing wrong. I hope you guys don't get mad, but IMO they need to be addressed.
Studio 23 really does not understand football, and it's pretty obvious. Their replays do not show key plays, especially goals. All they show is the goal. What's as important is the build-up. You can't score a goal without the pass and passes. Also, show offsides better with more cameras on those important areas of the park. Then again, could be a money issue. Plus, off-play replays get their own music? Really? Then again, I didn't hear them when I was watching the Inter Madrid game. I get annoyed because I'm an avid football watcher, and I stay awake until 5-7 AM to watch the Azkals play (US guy here)
Regarding the commentators.... I've only heard two of them: the English guy and the guy with the American accent (don't know their names). The guy with the American accent really does not know how to read the game. I guess it's the basketball factor, but really now.... Don't go spouting random stuff on the field when they're wrong. The English guy is really good though, and I get annoyed when he has to correct the other guy.
Also, is the Korean team actually named Icheon? All the big guys (ABS-CBN, GMA, etc.) call them that for some reason.... I don't think they're Icheon because they represent Incheon, like Incheon United in the K-League. I don't know what's up with the Filipino media and whatnot, but these have to be corrected..... And yes camera angles.
EDIT: LOL so it actually is Icheon. I should really research before babbling random thoughts...

Here : wikingandtheazkals.blogspot.com/2012/01/jan-21-2012-azkals-vs-icheon-city-fc.htmlStudio 23 is new to soccer as is all other networks in the Philippines, after all soccer has only been "popular" for less than 2 years. Its unfair to compare them to European coverages. We all hope they will adjust and they have been for the most part. No need to stay up late, get yourself TiVo or like me a DVR, now I don't miss anything! Welcome to UF.

Marielle Benitez: Freakin' joes, she makes the game unwatchable due to horrible commentary! It's like she's having a hard time talking and sounds like shes stuttering a bit and having difficulty pronouncing words!
Darren Hartmann: Great analysis. He is just the prim and proper guy. Love his banter. And his "gatas" moment when he saw a Pinoy toddler having a milk bottle.

Bob is the best in-game commentator so far but still needs improvement or the search goes on.
Marielle does not thave the voice for commentary. I'm not an expert but it just doesnt sound pleasing.
Still need Darren Hartmann to be the analyst in the commentary & analyst combo.

marielle benitez is the captain of the phil. women's football team the malditas... where's bob anyway? Bob is currently in Dumaguete to attend a football event there, and help with relief efforts for the recent earthquake that happened last Monday. He'll return to commentating for the Al Ahli game.
