Name: Robert James Dazo "Rob" Gier Date of birth: 6 January 1980 (age 30) Place of birth: Ascot, England Height: 5 ft 10 in (1.78 m) Playing position: Defender Club: Ascot United F.C. (Hellenic Football League, England) Caps: 4 Goals: 0 Former clubs: Wimbledon, Rushden and Diamond, Cambridge United, Woking, Aldershot Town, Grays Athletic BioRobert James Dazo "Rob" Gier (born 6 January 1980) is an English-Filipino football defender who plays for Hellenic Football League Premier Division club Ascot United. He also represents the Philippines at international level. Gier began his career at Wimbledon, who had been relegated from the Premiership in 1999–00 season. He made his debut the following season, starting a 0–0 home draw with Sheffield United on 28 October 2000. In 2004 he joined Rushden & Diamonds, and was part of the side that was relegated from the Football League in 2005–06. He left the club following their relegation, and had spells in the Conference with Cambridge United, and Woking during the 2006–07 season. He joined Aldershot Town at the start of the 2007–08 season, and was part of the side that won the Conference with a record points total. He made 38 league appearances for the club, all starts, but despite this was released at the end of the campaign. On 22 May 2008, Grays Athletic announced they had signed Gier on a one-year contract, however, less than seven months later he was transfer listed by the club in January 2009, with financial pressures and manager Wayne Burnett's plans being cited as the reason. Gier joined Hellenic League Premier Division club Ascot United in November 2009, after being released at the end of the previous season by Grays Athletic. I like this guy, him and Ray Jonsson are rock solid in the back position! Hope he comes back to the Azkals when his team gets their "international" breaks, soon!

As we all know Rob Gier has been assigned by Mr. Dan Palami as the chief European scout for the national team. According to his Facebook fan page his tasks include: - Be a direct point of contact with the European based players & their clubs.
- Identify & scout potential new players.
- Compile match reports on future opponents.
- Act as an Azkal representative in Europe.
With that in mind, Rob will be the primary contact of all Europe-based players in contacting the PFF management. Great job for a senior member of the team.

News as of Nov 20, 2010. Old news I know but interesting news of his career FROM: www.hellenicleague.co.uk/archive/09_10/ascot.htmlInternational Signing -20th November Stuart Scammell has pulled off his second sensational transfer coup in three weeks by enticing another former youth team star back to the club. Two weeks ago the United boss turned a few heads when he won the race to sign former AFC Wimbledon and Farnborough ace Rob Saunders. And last week the Yellamen welcomed back a full international with more than 100 Football League games under his belt. Former Wimbledon, Rushden & Diamonds and Aldershot full back Rob Gier (pictured) made his Ascot debut in Saturday's massive 2-1 Hellenic Premier Division victory over fellow-strugglers Bicester. Gier should be available for the next two months before hooking up with the Philippines international squad in the new year. Scammell said: "It would be churlish of me to say that I'm not ecstatic to get in an international player. Rob is a good lad and he is another Ascot boy. He left Grays Athletic at the end of the season and he hasn't been playing for anyone since. He trained with us in pre-season, but then had work commitments. He goes away with the Philippines early next year but should be available before then." After starring for Ascot's junior teams in the early 90s, Gier was picked up by the Wimbledon Academy and made his first team debut in the Championship in October 2000. He went on to make 71 appearances for the Dons before leaving for League Two Rushden in 2004.Since then he has turned out for a host of clubs in the Football Conference and played 38 times in Aldershot's 2007/08 title-winning season. Scammell believes Gier's experience could be exactly what the doctor ordered for a United defence that has shipped 53 goals in 19 league games. He said: "We have been creating bucketloads of chances this season, but it is defensively we have been struggling. So obviously bringing in someone like Rob is really going to help us out. His experience speaks for itself." A win at Bicester last Saturday moved Ascot level on points with Fairford Town, who sit outside the Premier Division relegation zone. Tomorrow the Yellamen travel to the Gloucester side knowing a win will lift them out of the drop zone for the first time since August. Scammell added: "We've picked up four points out of six now, which is exactly what we needed. The table certainly looks better after that. I look at the table now and I think if we can nick three or four wins against the sides just above us, we could move up a few places. We've not played Fairford before, but I've heard some really good reports about them. A number of people have told me they are better than their league position. But if we can go there and focus on our own game with a strong squad of 14 or 15 players we have a good chance of coming away with something."

Rob doesn't have a Twitter yet. You might just PM him on Facebook.
And he's open for e-mail enquiries: rgier (at) zenith-sports.co.uk
Maybe he would reply to your question about Jason de Jong.
