Azkals to play in Panaad Sept. 13
The Philippine Men’s Football Team, Azkals, will be in Bacolod City on September 13 to play against the Ceres - Negros First Under 23 Suzuki Cup champion team at the Panaad Stadium.
Set to start at 6 p.m., the match between the Azkals and the Negros Under-23 champion team that beat Iloilo during the Suzuki Cup PFF U23 Championship, is expected to draw a large crowd of football-loving Negrenses to the Panaad pitch.
While team composition for both the Azkals and the Ceres-Negros squads is yet to be released, the public are looking forward to see Younghusband brothers Phil and James along with Ilonggos Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta playing together once again.
Early this year, the Azkals caught Bacolod City by storm during their AFC Challenge Cup qualifying playoff home match against the Mongolia Blue Wolves.
Caligdong won the hearts of the Negrenses as he scored the opening goal while fireworks lit the night sky after Phil Younghusband booted in the Philippines’ second goal minutes before the game ended.*NAB

Crap, ^^^^^^ that's my old stomping ground, and I'm stuck here in California preparing for the college (american) football season to start. My team, UC-Berkeley, plays its 1st game tomorrow. With all those teams in and around Negros, I should start a soccer equipment distributor business there.

German football expert to hold workshop hereBy Marsante Alison Cebu Daily News 7:08 am | Tuesday, October 25th, 2011 All Cebuano football coaches and players aged 13 and below are invited to a three-day workshop hosted by the Cebu Football Association (CFA) which will start today. The workshop will be handled by German football expert Eckhard Krautzun at the Sarrosa International Hotel and Residential Suites. The event is in line with a Grassroots Program Assessment conducted by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) in coordination with the German Olympic Committee and the German Football Association. Krautzun arrived in Manila last week and will be staying in the country until late next month. He will be traveling around the country to visit various provinces as part of his evaluation of the current status and program of grassroots football in the Philippines. The objective of the PFF in conducting this activity is to develop more local talents to reinforce the national youth teams and eventually the Philippine National Senior Men’s Football Team. Today’s main activity includes the discussion of several topics such as scope of duties of a youth coach in relation to modern football, training of kids and youth players (9-12 years old) and grassroots and youth training in various age groups. Half of this afternoon’s session will also be used for practical exercises with the coaches and junior team players at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku, Mandaue City. Tomorrow, an hour will be spent in discussing talent scouting or player identification. Players will also be identified for the football festival that will follow thereafter at the Aboitiz Sportsfield. Players identified will then be known as “Elite” players. After lunch, the coaches will return to Sarrosa to discuss organization and planning of a training session to be followed by the presentation of the DFB (German football association) program. Krautzun will then inspect and practice with the Little Azkals (Philippine U13 Team) and have an extra session of practice with the Elite players. The training for both teams will continue on the morning of the final day of the workshop on Thursday. Krautzun will cap the three-day workshop with a summing up and a discussion of the festival assessment. He will then leave for Davao for their own workshop there. newsinfo.inquirer.net/82559/german-football-expert-to-hold-workshop-here

More work needed for PH football German football expert Eckhard Krautzun said he was amazed as almost 50 coaches including women showed up for yesterday’s start of the three-day workshop hosted by the Cebu Football Association (CFA) at the Sarrosa International Hotel and Residential Suites and the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku Mandaue. He said he was more impressed because it was the first time that he handled a workshop with so many female participants. “The girls did very well,” said Krautzun referring to an exercise wherein he made selected coaches come up with their own training program. The coaches’ response to the workshop also pleased the German football coach. “I find them eager to go and they are concentrated,” Krautzun said. He said that he emphasized on drills and tactics yesterday. TACTICAL DEFICIENCY Based on his observation since he arrived in Manila last week, there’s a tactical deficiency in Philippine football. Prior to coming here, Krautzun had also conducted a workshop for the National Capital Region Football Association (FA) and nearby FAs as well as observed four matches of the United Football League (UFL), the country’s premier football league. According to Krautzun, the Filipino booters have good skills, they can run but they lack in ground, individual and team tactics. He said they should work on their tactical behavior such as balance in defense and attack on the field. he also noted the slow switch from one position to another. “The best teams in the world switch quickly. I noticed that there (NCR) and it is also lacking here,” Krautzun said. He also said that the Filipino will have to develop their own style of play which should adapt the Filipino culture, climate and body structure. USE INNATE AGILITY During the games in Manila, Krautzun observed that many of the booters attempt long-range shots. He said this will not work against tall players especially against the Koreans. ‘They have to use their agility, their quick-passing,” said Krautzun, who added that because of the heat here, players should economize their energy and not waste it by running and running. In the morning, Krautzun lectured the coaches on the profile of a grassroots coach and the coach of conduct. In the afternoon, they were made to do practical exercises. He said that the young players are the future and that they should get proper coaching. “The Philippines have to find an ideal system wherein the youth will be given regular training and regular competition,” Krautzun said. The workshop will continue today with discussion on talent identification. Krautzun will also observe the progress of the Little Azkals (Philippine U13 team) who are in town for the workshop. newsinfo.inquirer.net/83221/more-work-needed-for-ph-football

I like the fact that he pointed out the tactical deficiencies inherent in Filipino football. I have noticed this deficiency even with the Azkals, especially in regards to our local players with their tendency to push forward and tardiness in going back on defence in past games. This was somewhat alleviated when McMenemy employed his hyperdefensive system in the Suzuki Cup but again became noticeable when our new coach let loose the reins on our players especially early on during the games against Mongolia

Locals get training from German coach | More | Wednesday, October 26, 2011 GERMAN football coach Eckhard Krautzun shared his expertise on team management with a bunch of local coaches in a series of lectures and trainings. which is set to end today. The activity was part of the German assessment of the Philippine Grassroots Program under the Philippine Football Federation. Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos. Coaches, educators and former players from Cebu, Leyte and Dipolog were the participants in the three-day event. The program aims to introduce the sport to kids to bring out their creativity in a fun and educational way rather than treating it competitively. During the first day, participants were taught the scope and duties of a youth team coach and how to conduct training for young players. Yesterday, the discussion centered on talent identification. Krautzun said it is important to consider speed, technique and intelligence of a player. He added social behavior among kids is also important. Krautzen also trained some 50 kids from local clubs Banilad, Canduman, Subangdaku, San Roque and Giussepe. “We found out that we have a lot of catching up to do with the training format that our coaches are using,” said Cebu Football Association President Richard Montayre. Krautzun also observed the Little Azkals playing. The squad is preparing for the Under-14 tournament in Malaysia next year. The team finished in fourth place in the AFC Under-13 Football Festival. The team will be training for a month in Italy prior to the tournament. Krautzun critiqued the kids’ playing habits and made corrections through short games and drills. The coaches who attended commended Krautzen for his dedication to help improve the performance of the players. “He is very strict. Walang pinapalampas,” said Dave Gerali of Don Bosco Technical College. Krautzun is also set to visit Davao, Bacolod and Iloilo before the final assessment in Manila. The coach’s report will determine the kind of assistance either financial or technical, that the German Football Association will give the PFF. www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/sports/2011/10/26/locals-get-training-german-coach-187235Coach Eckhart is making an impact while setting up workshops at the grassroots level, giving feedback to our local administrators and coaches and opening eyes on what they need to improve I personally think the best way they or the Spaniards can help is to send a technical director that will be responsible for setting up the various programs that will help improve the standard of the game as well as help develop a style of play that will be taught and implemented at all levels from the grassroots to the senior men's level.

pff continues task of building grassroots program OCTOBER 25, 2011 BY CRITICALEYE2 LEAVE A COMMENT PASIG, Philippines – Even as the Philippine Men’s National Under-23 Team continues to train in Gotemba, Japan for the 2011 Southeast Asian Games, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) continues to work to build up a credible and sustainable grassroots program. The importance of this cannot be stressed enough. The PFF acknowledges that it needs help with this given the uneven performance of its junior teams in recent competitions. It is also notable that a significant number of the players currently in the U-23 pool training in Japan were identified during the 2011 PFF-Suzuki Cup Under-23 National Tournament held earlier this year. Many of them come from outside Metro Manila and would have, in the past, likely been overlooked without this tournament. With the success of the PFF-Suzuki Cup this year, Suzuki and the PFF have expanded their relationship, with the automobile and motorbike company committing financial support to the SEA Games team. This was firmed up today at official contract signing ceremonies held at the Richmonde Hotel at Eastwood City. Suzuki was represented by its President – Satoshi Uchida, Managing Director and Treasurer Catalina “Lin” Calderon and the General Manager for Automotive Sales and Marketing Division – Shuzo Hoshikura. Signing in behalf of the behalf of the PFF were its President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta and Governor and National Team Manager Dan Palami. The ceremony was also witnessed by PFF Treasurer Bonnie Ladrido and Legal Counsel Ed Gastanes. Suzuki also reiterated its support for the PFF-Suzuki Cup Under-23 National Tournament with a multi-year financial and logistics commitment. More than that, Mr. Uchida offered to further expand the relationship with a contemplated involvement in the PFF’s grassroots program. On another front, the PFF has solicited the support of the DFB – the German Football Association – in assessing the state of our grassroots program and providing recommendations and guidance. The DFB has sent former Bundesliga coach Eckhard Krautzun to the Philippines to conduct this assessment. Herr Krautzun arrived in Manila on October 17th and met with PFF officials for an initial briefing. Mr. Krautzun will be in the Philippines until November 25th. He will be conducting meetings, assessment training camps and other related activities in Manila, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Bacolod over this next month. The PFF will be holding a press briefing on November 24th to relay the initial findings of Mr. Krautzun and convey next steps ladrido.net/2011/10/25/pff-continues-task-of-building-grassroots-program/

Little Azkals impress German coachBy Marsante Alison Cebu Daily News 9:39 am | Thursday, October 27th, 2011 THE PHILIPPINE Under-13 national team tagged the Little Azkals got some needed lessons from German football expert Eckhard Krautzun. The team went under the scrutiny of Krautzun at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku, Mandaue City and he described the team to have good spirit and lots of enthusiasm. He said that he sees potential in some of them to become really good in the sport. During the team’s training with head coach Oliver “BingBing” Colina, Krautzun said he sees the same problem he’s seen since he came here to the Philippines—the team lacked in individual and group tactics. “They have to keep the ball on the ground, improve their passing and learn to play various positions,” Krautzun said. He said that these kids should learn that football is played in the head, so they have to learn to think fast while they are playing. “Right now they think slow, make the wrong decisions but even the best players do that. A good player on the field is the one who make the right decisions,” Krautzun added. Krautzun emphasized that the team must also have good guidance and coaching. The German coach told Colina to come up with a program for each player outlining their weakness so they could improve on this and continue training on their own at home. The Little Azkals who made it for the workshop were Moiselle Angelo Alforque, Jeremiah Borlongan, Lawrence Colina, Darius Joseph Diamante, JHenry Omar Hamdan, Dimitri Lionel Limbo, Vincent Erik Lovitos, Josh Albert Miller, Kintaro Miyagi, Javier Romero-Salas, Sebastian Rafael Patangan, Mason Trent Vergara, Jose Anton Yared, Harel Dayan, Marco Alessandro Casambre, Mario Lorenzo Ceniza, Palmero Ivan, Caraballe, Kristoper Malaga, Johne Michael ,Ploteña, Keith Wenceslao, Jed Delariarte, Sherwin Merindad, James Cyrus Sambalod, Kent Stuart Gastador, Joven Marfiga, Lemark Unabia, Rexon Cyruz Capellan, and Ray Sanciangco. Those who missed the workshop were Ian Danielle Eumague, Major Dean Ebarle, Khairyll Parao and Lorenzo Genco. In an exhibition match, the boys from the Mandaue Technical Institute (MTI) were able to draw the Little Azkals, 1-1. The Little Azkals will have an early practice today at the San Roque football field then after they will proceed to Sarrosa International Hotel and Residential Suites for a lecture with Krautzun. “They have a lot of space for improvement. They must also watch good games like international matches such as in the Southeast Asian Games ,” said Krautzun. newsinfo.inquirer.net/83801/little-azkals-impress-german-coach

PFF consultant: Ask goverment to put up pitches | More | Thursday, October 27, 2011 GERMAN football expert Eckhard Krautzun said he has learned a lot about Cebu football from the three- day coaches’ training he facilitated for Philippine Football Federation (PFF) at Sarrosa International Hotel. The activity, which drew interest from coaches, parents, educators and players, included topics on youth coaching, training session and basic football tactics. Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos. “I learned the need of the province and what can be improved,” said Krautzun. Among the problems he noticed were the lack of fields, funds and equipment. He mentioned that clubs should get help from the government in constructing fields and artificial turfs. “There’s good football when there’s a good field,” he added. Krautzun will be in the country until the end of November to supervise the different grassroots programs of football associations around the country. His next visit will be in Davao, where he’ll conduct the same seminar. He will be expected to present his final assessment to PFF after his last stop in Manila. He will then fly to back to Germany to file a report regarding his observation to the National Olympic Committee of Germany and Office of Foreign Affairs. The German Football Association will decide on what kind of support it will give the country based on Krautzun’s report. Germany had long been supporting the county in football development when they sent coaches to train locals and support programs. Krautzen will pay a short visit to Jakarta to be the technical consultant of the Southeast Asian Games competing team. Krautzen, who was the former coach of the men’s team that gave the country its best finish in the 1991 SEA Games, he said the team has a fair chance in their group but they need a lot of luck. He said that between his time as head coach and now, the structure has improved and the emergence of a national league, sponsors and public schools’ program has also helped the sport. As he culminated yesterday’s event with a lecture to members of the Little Azkals, he reminded them to work on improvisation and creativity in the field. “It will definitely help the team. We will add his inputs to our game plan with the addition of new drills to improve players decision-making,” said Little Azkals head coach Oliver Colina. He had also given pointers on match analysis and observation to attendees. “As a beginner kay daghan nakatun-an and we can use it to develop talents of children,” said Marlyn Go, a pre-school teacher of Lawaan Elementary School www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/sports/2011/10/27/pff-consultant-ask-goverment-put-pitches-187416
