This is good news, but take note. playing in Artificial turf is different from playing in real grass turfs.

Artificial turf has gone a long way since its invention. I do think this is a step forward and also we will have consistent football. No bad football games because of unplayable conditions.
And in my humble opinion, a well made artificial turf pitch is better than 95% of our grass pitches.

Very glad to hear this! I predict that in the next few years we'll have lots of state of the art futsal courts with synthetic turf. When that happens we're going to see an explosion of football. My team used to train here: www.arena10.comCan't wait to see places like this all over the country! Bring on 2012!

Yeah, from what I've heard, artificial turf used to be just like plastic growing out of cement.
Playing on old artificial turf made joints ache... falling down and sliding tackles meant getting friction burns. Plus, I assume, you need special turf shoes to perform well on artificial turf.
Let's hope they got the good kind of artificial turf.
Haha. I remember when David Beckham criticised MLS' use of artificial turf. He single-handedly, though indirectly, convinced stadium owners across the USA to convert their artificial turf to real grass.

MLS used artificial turf only in American football stadiums where some teams initially played, because of the lack of availability of soccer specific stadiums early on. Now that almost all the MLS teams are constructing their own soccer specific stadiums, they are all converting to natural grass. It has always been the objective of the MLS to use natural grass as much as possible but circumstances did not allow this. David Beckham like other players has criticized the use of artificial turf but this had nothing to do with most teams eventually moving to natural grass when they constructed their own soccer specific stadiums.
Nevertheless the most well attended team(averaging 38,500 last season) in MLS, the Seattle Sounders still plays on artificial turf, because of the large capacity of the Century Link Field which was built originally to host both American football and soccer. They have a modern synthetic turf which minimizes a lot of the problems that older turf used to have as some of you had mentioned, but is still not as good as natural grass in terms of player's wear and tear on their joints and ligaments. Because of the large capacity of the stadium and their large fan base however, they have no plans of moving at this time as the cost of contructing a soccer specific stadium that can hold all of their fans will be quite prohibitive.
As for Bonifacio Stadium, I noticed that the turf was basically installed over what looks like a hard surface. Is there any insulation underneath and did they make provisions for adequate water drainage which would be important during the rainy season?

To appease those who still aren't convinced with artificial turf: www.pinas.net/2012/01/football-turf/Football turf Jan 13, 2012by GMA News Filipino football fans need not wait any longer for top quality turf to be made available for the public. A brand new football field will soon be available for football enthusiasts to enjoy at the Bonifacio Global City. Turf@BGC is the first public football field in the country to use the Limonta SoccerPro Max S. In football, FIFA Final Round competitions, as well as UEFA matches can only be played in turfs with the 2-star certification. The field makes use of the same materials as those fields that carry the FIFA 2-star certification- the highest level of FIFA certification. According to Audris Romualdez, Managing Director of E-Sports RK International, the supplier of the artificial turf, the field will soon be ready to the playing public. But what will facilitate its readiness is actual use, that’s why it’s imperative that teams be allowed to test the field. “The Azkals and CF Madrid have already tested the field. They love it. There are only three artificial football fields in the country. The only commercial one is this one (Turf@BGC),” said Romualdez. The project started in September, with the installation team needing to ensure that it is installed in level ground. Although E-sports had to suffer uncooperative weather, the turf was finally finished in January 3. The all-weather turf now gives football players the luxury of playing whenever they want. “The players complain with natural grass is that when it rains, it can destroy the pace. It’s easy to shovel rubber granules over unleveled area. With grass, it takes about two to three days to play again. With turf, in 30-40 minutes, you can play again,” shares Romualdez. Romualdez adds, “Limonta is one of the five FIFA-preffered producers (of artifical turf). It passed all the standards. They really like it. If you look at the blade, there’s a spine in every blade. It protects the turf from bending.” UFL events pepper the Turf@BGC schedule, as the football league’s 2nd division are scheduled to play most games at the venue. — RAF/JVP, GMA News

It's great that they used Limonta SoccerPro Max, it's one of the few brands with good quality artificial turfs.
Speaking of which, when they finally take it into public use, maybe during the UFL off-season, I hope more people would like to reserve this area for more people, especially kids, to play, in any kind of weather.
My only concern is maintenance, some Limonta turfs only last around 5-6 years, compared to AstroTurf which has been lasting longer. Also it needs periodic disinfection, since from the studies I've read, microbial activity is very high in artificial turfs compared to natural grass. I hope they utilized anti-microbial solutions for that in the long run.
