Captain Aly Borromeo headlines the Philippines contingent. Also in the squad are Alvin Valeroso, who tallied two goals for the Philippines in the inaugural AFC Challenge Cup that was held in Bangladesh, and 2006 Men’s National Open MVP Arnie Pasinabo, who played for the Philippines U-23 in last year’s South East Asian Games.
The Azkals leave for Singapore on Jan. 5 to play tune-up matches against Singapore Olympic Team, Singapore National Team and the Young Lions U-23, before flying to Bangkok, Thailand on Jan. 9.
The Philippines was drawn into Group A for the ASEAN Football Championship along with Thailand, Myanmar and Malaysia. The Philippines plays their opening match against Malaysia on January 12 before meeting Thailand on January 14 and then finishing off group play against Myanmar on January 16.
