I think the flip is good, but many footballers have been injured doing these flips. Regarding the dance he does at the end of the flip, I think it is way too goofy, but other may think it is cool or cute. What do you think? Stay with it Phil, or get real and do something else? Vote and let your voice be heard!!!!
Option 1 : For those who like a bit of the fringe, the unusual, and maybe a bit of the 50's American Dance Swing, "Keep it"
Option 2 : For the gushing girlies who dream of Phil and his moves like Jagger, "Keep it"
Option 3 : Give it up Phil, get a real celebration, "Change it"
OPtion 4 : I don't care, just get the goal!!!!

I was awkward to reply to this, but anyway...
Let's do the "Philly!" ;D
Seems Phil has been doing that awkward goal celebration dance, which he called himself the "Philly," since those early days in 2010, and further solidified when he joined Loyola Meralco Sparks and be linked to Angel Locsin. He does them too during league games.
He actually does either three of these different things after scoring a goal: 1) That awkward Philly dance. 2) Cartwheels then slides himself on the pitch, like he did in Panaad vs. Mongolia. 3) Pointing to the sky - probably dedicating it to his parents who've passed away, like he did vs. Nepal at Rizal Memorial
Although I'm a little perplexed by his "Philly," I reserve my stand for this one..

I'm a weird person and I like stuff that isn't the norm. I think too many goal celebrations are about looking cool. I think there aren't enough goofy, embarrassing, cringe inducing celebrations around.
Like Peter Crouch's robot dance, Phil's dance made me blush and grit my teeth. Which is a good thing because when a goal is made your emotions explode and then the goalscorer does something silly and you laugh or cringe, or do both, and then you experience another set of emotions.
The sensations become layered, textured, and complex. Like coffee and chocolate, fried ice-cream, bread and cheese and wine, candlewax and ice cubes and KY jelly...
So Phil, keep it up!

it doesn't really matter to me as long as he keeps focused and keeps scoring those goals for us. heck, he can streak all over the pitch for all i care

It's awful, I was expecting a more "manly" type celebration! But I heard Angel Locsin supposedly wants him to do it, plus, he's doing so well, he can do whatever the heck he wants!

I don't really care what he does... as long as he scores a Goal. That's what's important. It's better to be spontaneous, it makes the celebration more fun to watch! ;D

He'll get a yellow or even a red card for that. Personally, I can't stand watching it. It reminds me of the "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" dance. But I defend his right to do it.

talking about goal celebrations... I like most of the celebration shown on this video especially the bradley and Villa celebration lots of emotion... great to see... Angel should have done a balotelli move when he scored against TJK... but instead of "Why always me" he's would be "This is for you Ms. Ramos" ;D ;D ;D

Angel Guirado also killed the dance floor when he celebrated.. Better dance moves than Phil's.. HAHAHA Angel's dance was Flamenco, widely practiced in Andalucia region where the Guirados and de Murga came from. From wiki: Flamenco (Spanish pronunciation: [flaˈmeŋko]) is a genre of music, song and dance from Andalusia in southern Spain, noted for its energetic, staccato style. It grew from Andalusian music, song and dance styles, influenced by the song and dance of the local Romani people.

I think my favorite goal celebration was Angel and Chieffy's bullfighting act after a goal against Sri Lanka.

I think that in their next matches their goal celebration should be to do a crab walk to stick it to the haters and to those who refuse to open their eyes that football is here to stay.

I originally posted this topic just as a bit of fun, nothing serious really. I am glad people are taking to it in the spirit in which it was intended! I believe that goal celebrations are a fun and colorful aspect of this highly emotional sport. And, I too enjoy the playfulness that they (usually) embody, like the bullfighting episode...
On a more personal note, I have two boys (now 12 and 10) who play varsity on their school team. I have asked them to be humble when they score goals, and to thank god for the gift they have been given to be able to play this beautiful game. As such, after each goal, they cross themselves and point upwards, and look upwards, to thank god for these great opportunities that they have given to them. I remind them that the next thing they should do is to immediately seek out their team mates, and thank them for the pass that gave them the opportunity to score. After all, this is a team sport and no one is bigger than the team.
I know that over time, and perhaps after I am gone, the goal celebrations of my boys will change. I just hope and pray that these key values will remain with them and that they will never forget god's grace that they have been given to be able to play this beautiful game.
