i wonder if chicago fire will let spectators watch the game. i'm going to be in chicago for my girlfriend's cousin's wedding. i hope i get to see those games and possibly talk to dan palami or the other coaches. That will take into consideration that their home ground, Toyota Park, has only 20,000 seating capacity. It will depend on the organizers if they would really accommodate a large portion of the stands, with the exception of Section 8, to Filipinos.

We cannot afford the appearance fee that Mexico normally demands in order to have a friendly with another team in the US.

Why do you think Mexico play most of their friendlies in the US? b/c the Dollar > Peso. While that's one of the reasons, the real money comes from SUM, FMF has a contract with them so Mexico MUST play in the US a well-defined number of friendlies, the FMF just obtain the opponents. Also, most of those matches wouldn't draw in Mexico, just Mexican Americans would dare to go to see a Mexico - Ecuador and so... But we can't complain, those friendlies have helped us to finance our youth and women national teams. ;D

Too bad for us watching live in the Philippines, I guess. Since the matches would likely be held at nighttime in the US, it would be daytime in PI. Suppose, if the kickoff for the August 15th FIFA international friendly be at 07:00 PM Central, that's 08:00 AM in Manila, and since it's a weekday, people have to go off to work at that time, or school for some of us. That's quite inconvenient for a lot to follow the matches live on TV unless they go to work quite late, so I would like ABS-CBN to provide a primetime replay of the matches in Chicago so those who can't watch live would still watch it at nighttime.

Thats the ONLY reason why MOST of Mexico's matches are played in the US. & Where does that contract state that Mexico should play? in USA b/c the DOLLAR > Peso.. #WhaIs .. Like I said Phil.NT should play more in the US where there is a lot of filipino contingence to boost funds for its programs. Copy the WISE mexicans.

At this time, it would be hard for us Filipinos to copy the passion the Mexicans have for football. They have developed this for decades. They can easily fill a 100,000 stadium in the US or Mexico with fans and they do fill other stadiums in the US with different capacities regularly because there are so many of them here now. In fact, they pretty much outnumber American fans on a regular basis by a big margin in most stadiums when both teams are present. That is why they have a contract. Both the USSF and the Mexican federation benefit from this arrangement both financially and marketing wise.
We are not there yet. Most Filipinos who watch live the Azkals abroad are there to support our national team and because of their celebrity status and not necessarily because they know or follow the sport. It will take time. In the meantime, if we can harness that support here in the US, and fill those stadiums in areas where there are a lot of Filipinos, it could serve as a financial boon for the PFF in the future just like it does Mexico. We do need to prove it first and that starts in August.

I never denied that dollar > peso, I also know that Mexico draws better crowds in the US than in Mexico, but the real money comes from SUM (and other sponsors), but well... maybe you know better than me about my national team and our Federation From may 10th 2010: Source: www.sportspromedia.com/news/sum_extends_mexican_agreement/From March 22th 2011: Source: www.sportspromedia.com/news/anheuser-busch_and_sum_renew_comprehensive_soccer_agreement/So while nobody says exactly how much, we all know in what range they're in.

Just to add, when Mexico plays in, say Los Angeles Cali they usually will fill the LA Memorial Coliseum or the Rose Bowl to its capacity of over 90,000. Most with fans from Mexico. As a matter of fact home games for the US team was moved north of the country just so it will have "home team" advantage/atmosphere. Places like(correct me if I'm wrong, it's been awhile) Foxborough, Mass. So, no doubt its very lucrative for the Mexican team to play in the US.
By the way, just because there are Filipinos around it does not mean they will go to the matches. Most Filipino Americans I know does not necessarily care or even know about the Azkals. They are mostly NBA or NFL, even Hockey fan(NHL). Soccer is still 3rd or 4th behind basketball, football(NFL) and baseball even Hockey in the US. Though this also depends on the region or area you're in.
Lets see the matches of the Azkals in Illinois, maybe they'll have a great turn out. Though I'm surprised they did not think of Northern California in the first place. We have or had numerous Fil-Americans from that area play for the Azkals. It's literally a Fil American soccer haven.
Out of the blues: A source sent me an Azkals itinerary earlier in the year. Around the Chicago time frame and one of the opponents was Lichtenstein! Anyway, stranger things happen, like playing the US Vigin Islands!

mrpmosh, I don't care who is Mexico is sponsored by. BOTTOM LINE; It all comes down to the all mighty US DOLLAR. And Mexico is smart enough to exploit the matter for their benefit. Frankly I'm a member of Sams Army. I don't give a rats ass about Mexico, but I have to respect their passion for the game. BTW, what is a Mexican doing in a Filipino forum? Spying on us? Ha!

It's all about having a big market and people willing to expend in your product, Mexican Americans and Mexicans living in the US are that big market and are willing to expend their money in those (mostly) crappy friendlies, that they expend in dollars help, but if those two elements are there it doesn't matter if it's Euros, Pesos, Pounds, Yens, Wons or whatever... just ask the LFP agreeing to play 5 of the next 7 Supercopa matches in China.
Edit:
By the way, while still rubbish NTs, Belize and Puerto Rico are way better options than U.S. Virgin Islands... most USVI players are playing in colleges there, not even in the mainland US.
At least PR and Belize have pro/semi pro leagues and some decent players, still all 3 are pretty beatable for the Phils.

utak,
Be nice man. We should be welcoming to fans from other countries. mrpmosh is very helpful in translating Spanish articles on our players from Spain. He likes adding his input on football from the Mexican perspective. Besides he has a soft spot for the Philippines bec. of the close ties the Philippines had with New Spain(Mexico) during Spanish colonial times.
Wiking, You are absolutely right man. When the US plays Mexico in WC qualifiers, they have been scheduling the games in Columbus or in New England, where it is relatively cold and they can can expect a bigger American fanbase, than in other places. The Mexican team doesn't do as well in wintry weather.
mprmosh,
Totally agree about US Virgin Islands. I have now idea why Dan agreed to this. The organizers are his kababayans(from Leyte) and somehow convinced him to accept them as a friendly. They are one of the worst teams in CONCACAF. I really don't know what they expect to take from this game except to boost their ego.
