mrpmosh, I don't care who is Mexico is sponsored by. BOTTOM LINE; It all comes down to the all mighty US DOLLAR. And Mexico is smart enough to exploit the matter for their benefit. Frankly I'm a member of Sams Army. I don't give a rats ass about Mexico, but I have to respect their passion for the game. BTW, what is a Mexican doing in a Filipino forum? Spying on us? Ha! mrpmosh has been a member for over a year now and has ever been respectful, supportive and by and large has posted relevant and MATURE posts. Something missing from the post above. This IS a public forum, BUT with rules written and unwritten. Among them are " POSTING or ACTING MATURE". Please act accordingly.

@wiking & cjeagle, you are both correct, I've been to many int'l/ pro. matches, including the GoldCup final between Mexico vs US, so I'm familiar w/ the sport scene in the US, SPAIN, FRANCE, & England. I was in the Philippines recently to watch a few UFL matches. I didn't really start following the Phil. NT until the late 90's early 2000 when Freddy Gonzalez,Kale Alvarez & I forgot that aussie's name that played w/ them. They were the high profile players then.
Phil. NT have to start sooner or later & ain't no better time than this Aug. Filipinos in the US might only know the azkals as celebrities instead of footballers, but to me it doesn't matter, whatever draws them out to the matches and introduced them to Philippine football, is all good. Mexico is light years away from us but we can't worry about what they're doing. Have to focus on our business & the growth of the sport. I think what we really need is a modern nat'l stadium that the people can be proud of.

@wiking, I didn't appreciate his sarcastic remark, and I feel it wasn't "Acting mature" respond. When I wasn't even referring to him to begin with.

mprmosh, Totally agree about US Virgin Islands. I have no idea why Dan agreed to this. The organizers are his kababayans(from Leyte) and somehow convinced him to accept them as a friendly. They are one of the worst teams in CONCACAF. I really don't know what they expect to take from this game except to boost their ego. They could invite a bunch of building workers from the suburb of Chicago paying them with beer and I guess they would be as competitive as USVI.

An international friendly is an international friendly. It's an opportunity for the team to continue gelling. Let's be grateful for these contests, especially when we consider that a couple of years ago, we couldn't even find competition that wants to consider the Azkals.

That's for sure, but I see it as a waste. If you're already in the US you should make the most of it... the Fire is a good test by itself but the USVI is a big downgrade, I even think Malaysia and Indonesia > Belize/PR/RD/Nicaragua but they at least are sort of competitive and offer a different style to those in Asia... a match agaisnt USVI doesn't offer you anything but some easy points for the ranking, but well... maybe the PFF(?) is testing Filipinos interest first, two loses wouldn't do good for the first impression.

@wiking, I didn't appreciate his sarcastic remark, and I feel it wasn't "Acting mature" respond. When I wasn't even referring to him to begin with. Understood and noted, but since you've already had your comeback, lets move on back to the topic. The Chicago training camp. If we are going to play US Virgin Islands or other teams of that caliber maybe we should not even play a FIFA "A" game so we can get more substitutions and play more of our younger or "fringe" players. Thoughts on this? Can we expect pics from you cjeagle?

I just hope that the Azkals get to play MLS teams on a regular basis on US soil. It would be good experience for the Azkals, and also good financially for the MLS teams IF (a big if) the Pinoys in the US fill the stadiums. My wishful thinking is that the Azkals will one day defeat an MLS team and will then focus on EPL teams instead hahaha.
So the US Virgin Islands football team is that bad? Oh well, I think they're a basketball country anyway; a few PBA imports were from USVI. Also, Tim Duncan!

Back in the days, we were like the USVI in ASEAN competitions, there was even a 15-1 score we suffered, if i remember right. Now, we are "ok" in ASEAN/Some Asia, though we haven't proven ourselves yet (what have we won so far???). This is a first time we are venturing to the Americas (CONCACAF). We have to start somewhere. USVI is as good as any. Let's hammer USVI and make a statement. Then we can start getting to the rest of the them. Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Bermuda, till we get to the stronger ones. Patience guys. By the way, what is the FIFA ranking of USVI?

USVI is very beatable for PHI since it's down below in the rankings. Well I agree USVI shouldn't be our opponent there considering it might be our preparation for Long Teng Cup and AFF Suzuki Cup
