Bakit di 'A' match ang Azkals vs Uzbekistan? I think the point was to get training for as much of the player pool as possible hence "other than A friendly". If they did play a proper FIFA "A" friendly they can only have a minimum of substitutes and the rest will just be spectators, which we don't want. any way if you want a friendly, it's already coming up on Feb 29 and it should be fun because the skill levels are not that far apart between the two. I was surprised with the Azerbaijan announcement myself, but we got the info from the tour organizers so that(Uzbekistan) should be correct.

No doubt we will be overmatched, even if they send their B team. Maybe even their C team.
Keep the updates coming, guys. Thanks.

Nothing final yet. I think they are still negotiating. Acc. to our Uzbekistan sources from bigsoccer, there are no reports of Uzbekistan planning a Middle Eastern trip this February so Azerbaijan is also a possibility. Azerbaijan is ranked by FIFA at 111 but plays in the tougher UEFA competitions.

Here is who WILL NOT be there and maybe for AFC CC too.
27 Jan 2012 Olmin Leyba - The Philippine Star Manila: The PhilippineAzkals will be hard-pressed to fill up huge holes especially in the midfield as a number of Europe-based pros are still uncertain for Phl XI’s upcoming training camp in the Middle East and possibly the AFC Challenge Cup campaign itself in March in Nepal. Azkals coach Michael Weiss ruled out the participation of Fil-German Stephan Schröck and Fil-Danish Jerry Lucena and said the inclusion of Fil-Dutch Paul Mulders and Jason de Jong, Fil-Danish Dennis Cagara, Fil-Icelandic Ray Jonsson, and Fil-German Manny Ott are up in the air. With uncertainty of most of the Euro-based players, the midfield becomes a major concern for Weiss. “Schröck is injured, he won’t come. Mulders, most likely he’ll not come. Maybe Ott, maybe de Jong, and maybe Jonsson. Lucena already confirmed he won’t come, he won’t be released by his club, “ Azkals coach Michael Weiss said Wednesday night after the Azkals fought Global FC to a 2-2 draw at the Rizal Memorial pitch. “Cagara will get a decision from a German club in the Second League; if he gets a professional contract, I don’t see him come to Dubai and most likely our chances are also slim of him playing for the Challenge Cup, but that remains open, I’m not sure about that yet. I also hope I can get (Fil-German Roland) Muller for the goalkeeper maybe Neil (Etheridge), if he’ll be available,” he added. Weiss looks to their UAE and Qatar training camp beginning Feb. 6 as the best way to catch up as their sessions so far have been “far from ideal.” The Azkals are set to play against Al Arabi on Feb. 13 in Doha and Australian U-23 on Feb. 16 in Dubai, and one more opponent. They are negotiating with Azerbaijan for a Feb. 10 fixture. “Overall, the situation right now, as far as Challenge Cup preparations are concerned, is far from ideal,” he said, lamenting the limited time he can assemble even the local-based players due to their commitment with their respective UFL clubs. “So we’ll have three good matches, three days of training (in the Middle East) and hopefully that can get us closer together,” Weiss said. Tired of trolling for info, how about lets speculate on a starting XI without our "Dream Team" and only with available locally based or players understood to be going with the team to the Middle East. Here's my lineup: * Yes del Rosario over Carli, but I'd want Carli to sub in eventually. * Sabio over Gier- best tackler of the group and fast. *Leonora over Gener(you gotta play this kid, though knowing the "coach" he won't even bring him). Jonsson in, if he comes down. *DM without JdJ and Ott is weak as I believe Moy is 3rd out of the 3. But I think Moy still is better than most. Anyone have any "locals" to suggest. *As much as I think Misagh needs to play more I wouldn't replace James and Chieffy just yet. But Misagh has shown he can play left or right wing(but then there's Carli too). *Much respect for Ian, but he is in a bad and very long slump! Time to see Nate for all 90'. Its a good team but very thin with capable backups especially on defense I think. If only Jonsson would be around, defense would look more solid. The "coach" should start introducing our back ups more since it's just training camp. More time for Leonora(or any other new local players they bring). More Misagh, Nate, Sabio and Gier too, he really needs to get in shape fast.

I hear Chieffy is injured maybe Misagh can replace him? I hope Chieffy's injury won't be serious as his presence is dearly needed, second to Aly B. If, God forbid, he has a serious injury, maybe it's Misagh's time to shine. ;D

Based on Philstar Article: Ang Uzbekistan game ba hindi pa sure? Because they are negotiating against Azerbaijan hehe. The only thing I know is AZE will play against SIN on Feb. Uzbekistan or Azerbaijan? Uzbekistan- Ranked 67 in FIFA World Rankings
- Strongest in Central Asia
- Former SOVIET UNION part
Azerbaijan- Ranked 113 in FIFA World Rankings
- Playing in UEFA
- Former SOVIET UNION part
If they play against Azerbaijan tpus official friendly pa malaki itataas natin pag natalo or nadraw natin sila since they are playing in the UEFA na malaki ang coefficient than AFC

What a turn of events were having here... this is turning out to be a very bad start for the azkals in there preparations for the AFC challenge Cup with most Euro-based players not allowed by there cubls or Injured... now both captains of the team are out with injuries... The azkals line-up not getting the time to practice because of club commitments...

Wait lets not panic yet. We have good locals here. Yes, I know its bad that we might lose both of our Captains instead of just one but maybe Misagh can shine for us with more playing time if Chieffy can't play extended minutes or not at all?
It doesn't matter if we lose all the games in Dubai what important is the team can jell together and see what they need to adjust to be a better team. Lets not forget if we play the locals we have(see my above fantasy lineup) remember they have been playing together for a year and more for the others, they already have familiarity.
We don't know Juani but at CB, he won't need to think of much else like if he was a CM or CAM. Jason de Jong is a youth player, I think his team would want him to play in an international rather than in his youth league and Jason usually WANTS to come down, same with Jonsson. I think they'll come to the CC but not Dubai.
Angel has been playing better and so has Misagh. Ian is a "coach" favorite and he might play ahead of Nate still(but thats on the coach not the team). If Geir shows up in BETTER shape he can be an asset but I really would go with Sabio at this point, he's an NT vet now and has played better lately too.
I think what we have to worry about more is the quality of the tactics the former Rwandan U17 coach will apply for these games. I'm no coach, but I think we need to play defensively not "attack at all cost". We've seen this attacking tactic employed to disastrous results in very winnable games way too often.
