anyone have an idea of Gier's availability? will he play for us? if not, Sabio will be the only active CB and who will be his partner in our backline? i miss captain Aly, hoping for his fast recovery I doubt that he will be available , he missed some matches for his club when he was on the ASEAN tour and I think the club need him now. I think only locally based players will play in this Cup. Maybe they will try to get Etheridge or Müller as GK , but it could be a local GK.

Gier may not be available. It may be two Jasons as CB in the Peace Cup. It's going to be a local GK. Choice between Sacapano and Cuaresma. Deyto has an outside chance if he is fit.

Yeah, Gier will probably won't be available for this one due to his club duties (he missed around 4 or 5 league and cup matches since he joined the ASEAN tour, if I'm not mistaken), plus he might not want to miss his baby daughter's first birthday. Sabio and De Jong would do fine for this one as CBs, unless JdJ will have tendencies to move too high. But would you think Aly B might come over as a sub? (wishful thinking...) For the wingbacks, I hope for Carli and maybe Omphroy. As for the GK issue, I presume another Sacapano moment, unless we're lucky to have Mueller again. But I do wish Cuaresma or Deyto get chances to play.
As for the other sides, I've read in the Chinese-language forums that the Chinese Taipei FA is trying to call up their newly-installed captain Xavier Chen, their star RB who plays in Belgium for Mechelen. Slight chance he's gonna be released, but if he will come over for them, he'll be one of the dangerous players for the team. As for Macau, they're saying they'll probably have a lineup of collegiate players again, much like last year's Long Teng Cup. Nothing really special or exciting about them as of now.

what about the YH brothers will they play in the PEACE CUP?... i think so. i've read somewhere that they're most likely available ...speaking about our Central Defence. Gould will be playing at CB with the LMS can we invite him to have a try with the NT again? @chadgould9 Hi Bob! Yes, I have moved back to my old Central Defence position (Southampton FC). I will also be available for Singapore Cup

I saw this too and wanted to share with UF but I think LMS might NOT want/allow him to miss Cup games as they are keen to win "something " from the UFL not to mention RHB Cup. Chads contract might only be for the "Cup" duration and they'd want to get as much from him as possible.
Either way, I think it's a great idea! No Gier and a hobbled Aly isn't gonna cut it and neither will JdJ(or Azkal favorite Margarse or Gener) at centerback, though Margarse played well against the South Korean team in the KIA Cup. They better have a tight midfield pivot!

Opponents Watch: Chinese Taipei[/color]
Chinese Taipei have started their training sessions this week for the upcoming Peace Cup (although they still call it "Long Teng Cup"), and their new coach Ch'iang Muchai insists that they want Chinese Taipei to win the tournament although they lost their home advantage to the Philippines. Also featured in this video are their co-captain and two midfielders.
They will have a training camp in Jiangsu, China next week before heading to Manila on Sept. 23.

This should be interesting. The Guam team that will be competing in the Peace Cup will have an MLS player on their team from the New England Revs, Ryan Guy. He is a starter on his MLS team and was only allowed permission to join the tournament because the Revs are out of the MLS playoffs. That should help their team become more competitive than the last time they visited. He has also played in Europe in the top league in Ireland and has scored a goal in the UEFA Cup already. He certainly has more experience than our only player with MLS credentials Omphroy. With this addition, I give them a more than even chance of doing better than Macau and Chinese Taipei as well as being compeitive with the Azkals since we will be missing a lot of our players. www.guampdn.com/article/20120915/SPORTS/209150313/Guy-will-join-Matao-PhilippinesThat should give their team at least 2 players(incl. Kaya FC player Romero) with professional experience on the team with a few more possibly signing in the UFL as well. Their coach Gary White, who has a good rep here in the US by the way, also says that they intend to win the tournament. stellarboy, BTW, is the Chinese Taipei team bringing their European player with them?

stellarboy, BTW, is the Chinese Taipei team bringing their European player with them? (This is for fans who still don't have an idea who Xavier Chen is. By the way, he was the one who scored the winning goal at home against Malaysia in last year's WCQ. They won 3-2. And he's becoming a sensation, not only in Taiwan, but across the Chinese-speaking world.)Well, I think it will be very unlikely that Chinese Taipei's best player Xavier Chen would be released by his club Mechelen, which he is a regular starter. The team is currently at the borderline of relegation (13th in 16 teams) early in the season at the Belgian Pro League. Mechelen fired their previous manager last season where they finished 9th but with their new manager things seem more uncertain for them. If ever Mechelen would want to release him for this very minor tournament, he would have to miss three league games. Not a good idea for him career-wise IMO. But he posted on his Facebook page last Wednesday that he "desires to have [his] next match in Taiwan, but when?" So I do really feel he is itching to be part of the Chinese Taipei team again, much like the way Stephan Schrock desires to play for the Philippines even though he's playing in a top-tier league. ADD: Xavier Chen was recently installed as captain of Mechelen this 2012/13 season. Good for him!

Opponents Watch: Chinese TaipeiChinese Taipei has also another Euro-player in Victor Chou, who played for youth teams of Atletico Madrid and Real Valladolid. The Madrid-born defender last played for Salamanca B in the Tercera Division before moving this season to Shanghai Shenhua (the club where Didier Drogba is currently playing for). He first suited up for the U23 team during the London Olympic qualifiers last 2010. He since became part of the senior team pool in the next few years before earning his senior cap in a friendly with Hong Kong last Feb 29. He is expected to join the training camp in Jiangsu this weekend before they arrive in Manila on the 23rd. Should captain Xavier Chen would be unavailable due to club duties, Chou will provide adequate cover in his behalf.

Roster for Football Peace Cup ?
Goalkeepers: Eduard Sacapano, Ref Delany Cuaresma
Defenders: David Mark Basa, Jason Abbott Sabio, Carlos Alberto Martinez de Murga, Roel Gener
Midfielders: Marwin Angeles, Marvin Angeles, Misagh Bahadoran, Emelio Caligdong, Jeffrey Christiaens, Jason Nicolas Maria De Jong, Nestorio Margarse Jr., Jose Elmer Porteria, Andres Crisanto Gonzales, Patrick Reichelt, James Younghusband
Forwards: Ian Araneta, Denis Wolf and Phil Younghusband
These players were in the roster for the ASEAN tour and will probably also get a call-up for Football Peace Cup.
Just 20 players so maybe three more will get a call-up. Deyto as GK , a defender and a forward ?
