Philippine Football Federation (PFF) technical director and long-time national coach Dr. Juan Cutillas has stepped down from his position, blasting the leadership of federation president Jose Mari Martinez in the process.
Cutillas, who has served Philippine football for the past three decades, handed his resignation letter to Martinez and general secretary Pablito Araneta last Monday.
In his letter dated January 31 addressed to Martinez Cutillas said he has totally lost confidence on Martinez's leadership.
“Together with my lack of confidence, goes my lack of respect, following the lack of respect you have displayed towards me, my committee and other committee heads under you,” Cutillas said in his letter.
Cutillas claimed that Martinez has virtually stripped the federation’s committee heads of all authority “up to the point of becoming rubber stamps in our respective committees”.
The former technical director also complained of Martinez’s failure to provide football athletes and coaches their allowances and equipment.
“May I add to that, I did not receive one single peso for my services which I was entitled to as national coach,” he said.
He even claimed that Fil-foreign players Phil and James Younghusband refused to play for the national team, "not while Martinez is president."
Martinez: Cutillas is sour graping
Martinez, meanwhile, claimed that Cutillas was merely sourgraping after he failed to secure control over the women’s football and futsal committees.
“In reality, he wanted me to side with him on the issue of the two committees,” Martinez told abs-cbnNEWS.com.
The PFF president said he refused to be pressured and instead asked Cutillas concentrate on the national team.
“I asked him to concentrate on the national team instead and leave the women’s football and the futsal committee alone,” said Martinez. “Now he’s sourgraping.”
Martinez said he is willing to settle the issue and is open to discussion with Cutillas.
