I wasn't able to watch the game(no livestream) but was happy to hear that we won it. A couple of things we can take from this match. First, we have a goalie. Despite the fact that we might be losing our 2 best and most experienced goaltenders, Ed Sacapano has proven that he can deputize creditably in their stead. This win provides a confidence boost for him and the entire team which is very important, when the Suzuki Cup start in a couple of weeks.
Secondly our defence has shown, that they can hold the fort despite being dominated in shots on goal. They were aided of course by the Man of the match performance by Ed. Nevertheless, in a counterattacking formation, that disparity in shots and possession is about par for the course and without the aid of our solid defenceman, he would have been hung out to dry.
Third, our offence still needs work. Despite the months of preparation, we were unable to keep possession most of the game and had to resort to a counterattacking strategy. Of course, the potential is there for them to improve once our players from abroad(half of our starting lineup) start arriving combined with having the Younghusbands playing a full game, so we have a lot to look forward to.
I am glad to hear that Angel Guirado will be available to play in the Suzuki Cup. His height and scoring ability will be needed, especially since we still don't have a reliable option at forward to slot next to Phil Younghusband.
Question for you guys, how did Chris Greatwich play? I didn't get to see the match and was wondering how Chris fared after seeing him play only once(in Chicago) since the last Suzuki Cup. It sort of sounds like to me that we need a better central midfielder(like Schrock or Mulders) to keep possession of the ball and that is the position that he is usually slotted in the past.

cebujames, No need to apologize. I am sure you have learned from your mistake. We welcome you back with open arms. I just want to remind you though that it easy to be a fan when your team is winning. The real question is will you continue supporting them when they don't do as well and this question applies to everyone of us and not only to you. This is the point that Dan Moritz highlighted earlier when he compared fans in Europe to those in the Philippines. There will be other games and as has been proven in Manila, fans have shown that they can be inconsistent in their support from game to game after the novelty of watching their first international football game has worn of.

cjeagel: not bad, but not good as well. and definitely it's not about his quality, but his cohesion with the other players was a huge factor especially that he has not played together with them for a very long time. Imo him being there has an effect why our offense was not that fluid as expected despite playing reitchelt, omphroy and wolf together. ... i could be wrong

cjeagle That's the point that I've explained to Dan Moritz and for everybody. Whatever happens I'm still a fan, and whatever happens it doesn't changed me as a fan even way back before. Even when most of the Filipino doesn't know about our NT. I've met and being taught by some of the former NT players before here in Cebu when I was still 11 years old. And they don't taught me non sense. As well as my coach and I'm a big sport fan, not only football. Anyone that represent our country will get my full support, win or lose. Again, what I'm into is to how our NT win every game we can. There's no point of pounding my head just for the reason of me selling my ticket because of disappointment. Anyways, it was a hell of a game. Especially in the 2nd half. We should've lost that game not because of Ed. And it's really a big difference when the subs came in in the 2nd half. I almost kicked my TV right after that cross from Phil. Me and my dad was shouting! We also watched the fireworks after as the venue is just near my place.

Mabuhay Pilipinas ! ! ! you scored a double today. Convincing wins from Philippine national baseball team against Thailand 8 -2 in Taipei for World Baseball Classic qualifier early today and from Azkals' mauling of the Lions. nice...hope that winning tradition will extend to whole november both the baseball classic qualifying and the AFF suzuki cup.

strikerbon, that shouldn't be a foul. Well still ok. It gave rise to Sacapano's great save BTW I watched the game on TV
Based on my observation, stadium is in full capacity. Cebu has much more football atmosphere than Manila. Visayan fans really enjoyed their 1st live action in the Central Visayan province As Burrows tweeted: craigburrows"RT @princegershom: Aside from Manong Ed, I strongly nominate CEBU/Cebuanos for MOTM!" He liked the strong appreciation and support of Cebuanos for Azkals and PH football Looks like Cebu could host another Azkal game soon Better than Manila in spectators watched Well Manila could have a sold out game also in AFF SC SF if we pass the group stage. My probablility for that is high i guess lets not overhype the cebu fans, fans from manila, negros, iloilo and mindanao for sure they are there also to support the team....it is a collective effort of fans around the philippines. why because like when negros host the games people from different provinces arrived also to watch the game. and yes or maybe visayan fans are passionate in this game.

GK will be the least of our concerns now. We know Ed can step up if needed. Ref is a willing #3/4 if by miracle Neil AND Roland are available.
I am encouraged that Rob and Juani played the entire match. Ray, too.
Joshua getting late PT will bode well for him post-Suzuki Cup.

Once the European based players arrive, he might not even be part of the starting lineup, but he would still be nice player to have in reserve.

True. He just looked lost out there, like the Azkals vs LA Galaxy friendly. I'm sure that was the reason why he was subbed, vs subbing Omphroy who also made alot of mistakes on the 1st half. He just needs more practice time together with the core team, he is a quality player in the first place. But I think I read somewhere that he's not sure he can join the team for the Suzuki Cup.

i didn't feel Chris' presence last night. he need to gel with his teammates since this is not the team that he used to play with. this is a new core of players. younger players can overtake his spot. especially Marwin and Ott

Congrats to the team!!! I didn't get to watch, sadly. Is there any way I can watch online? TFC Global doesn't upload they game anymore & this other site requires VL download that doesn't work on my laptop.
Anyway, the win is a boost for the team going to suzuki cup. Go Azkals! Can't wait for the THE game we've been waiting for.

BTW, the referee has a lot of bad call especially in giving penalty for SIN, good thing Sacapano saved it
For those who are asking about Greatwich, he played the match. He was used in 1st half and subbed out in 46th minute together with Caligdong and Christaens. They were replaced by Angeles and the YHS.
