I had a dream that one day, we would be hosting the World Cup in 2038 or 2046. It wasn't clear though if it's FIFA or Rugby Union. I was so pissed off at the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" drivel that my subconscious cooked up something that is not only huge, but overwhelming.
Given the timeline, is it still unattainable? What do we need? Thoughts?

Impossible at the moment unless we strike oil bigtime ;D. In order to host a WC tournament you will need world class stadiums, hotels, modern mass transport system, modern telecommunications, etc... Qatar is rumored to be spending $40Bn for 2022. Malamang we'll be spending more than that. Japan and Korea lost out considering they've hosted in 2002. Until then, we can keep on dreaming... World Cup Philippines 2050...Ganda pakinggan ;D

Southeast Asia mulling joint bid for 2030 World Cup January 18, 2011 SINGAPORE, Jan 18 — A proposal to stage the World Cup finals in Southeast Asia in 2030 is being considered by members of Asean, the Assocation of Southeast Asian nations, the Singapore FA said yesterday. Zainudin Nordin, the president of the the Singapore FA (FAS), said in a statement that the proposal had been made at an Asean Foreign Ministers meeting. “It is possible for Asean to jointly host the event in 20 years time and to possibly meet the football standards then due to the aggressive football youth development programmes of Asean member nations,” he said. “A joint bid by Asean will raise the international profile of the region and will also unite citizens of the member nations.” The Asean group comprises 10 countries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. In 2007 four Asean countries — Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam — hosted the 16-team Asian Cup, the continent’s top football tournament. Indonesia were also briefly involved in the bidding process for the 2022 World Cup finals before withdrawing their candidature in March last year. Although any decisions for the 2030 finals will not be made by Fifa for more than a decade, the Asean nations are the second party to show an interest, following an announcement last year that Argentina and Uruguay could also consider a joint bid. The 2014 finals are set to be staged in Brazil, followed by Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022. — Reuters www.themalaysianinsider.com/sports/article/southeast-asia-mulling-joint-bid-for-2030-world-cu/

The biggest problem of ASEAN co-hosting idea is... so what about the qualification thing? Every co-hosting ASEAN nations must get automatically qualified, which is extremely unlikely that the FIFA will approve. And AFC won't like the idea either since it means that other Asian nations should fight for remaining few slots.
Besides, i think the next two AFC countries who will host the WC is gonna be China and Australia, and if so it means the chance for any ASEAN nations would be almost zero until at least 2050.
Well, i think ASEAN region should concentrate first on developing football enough to compete with other Asian countries, and finally grab a WC slot.

Masarap na pangarapin pero in reality we are still considered as an emerging football nation to the rest of the world. Wala tayong pera, wala tayong world standard venue. I don't think we can make it by 2038 nor 2046. That's just 27 - 35 years from now. 50 years? - we'll see. The next few years of development in Philippine football may show us signs of things to come.
I am not expecting to realize the same dream in my lifetime but I'm sure that if the next generation succeeds in doing so, they will have us and the Azkals to thank for sowing the seeds of passion for the beautiful game in this great nation of ours.
Mabuhay ang Azkals! Mabuhay ang Philippine Football!

we've never even qualified for FIFA given that we're one of the oldest teams in Asia.. but it is possible i think that's likely to happen many many many many more years pa when our government is SUPPORTIVE and football will be part of a lifestyle, a culture (not just pop culture) and hope for Filipinos. A better way is to bank on ASEAN din, but it may more likely end up at more football loving countries than ours i mean, only 2 Asian countries (korea and japan) bid for hosting FIFA for 2018 and 2022 and there's a rotation system pa that's probably when these FIFA guys will look at us more seriously... I hope to still be alive and get to watch the FIFA world cup in our very own country!!!!!!!!!!! OMG that's super awesome!!!!!! mapapaisip ka nga lang sa NAIA 3 but we're free to dream aren't we?

I hope that this would be possible kahit na they consider us as a third world country.. Pero sana buhay pa ako if that "impossible dream" will happen.

Nothings impossible in cartoons...haha..btw if ASEAN host a WC finals there should be 1 ASEAN team in the tournament because imagine if the 11 nations automatically qualified haha..there is only 4.5 berth in asia.no need for asian zone qualifications.hehe..
