Post game Press Conference Quotes
“Obviously, it’s important to be on the top of the table,” said coach Alen Stajcic. “It’s where every team wants to be and we’re pleased to be there.”
“We scored some good goals today. One of the parts of our game that we always said we needed to improve is on the ball. There were large chunks of that game where I thought we were good on the ball.”
“It’s very important in a tournament like this where there are five games in nine days that everyone contributes. We’ve got a big squad and it’s important everyone in the squad contributes to this tournament if we’re gonna come out on top,” said the erstwhile Central Coast Mariners head coach.
“I’m pleased that we could rotate a lot of new players into the team and we’re gonna continue that throughout the week and ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to put their hand up for a spot in the team long-term,” concluded Stajcic.

Great result for the Philippines with Coach Staj giving major playing time to most of their young players including 3 teenagers 17 y.o. Flanigan and Maniti, 18 y.o Cesar, 20 y.o Frilles, 21 y.o. Alcantara and Shelton, and 22 y.o. Castaneda and Hawkinson, the Philippine's very own version of Australia's U23 squad.

Injury Update:
3 players were noticeably not included in the past 2 game rosters in the AFF Championships : Sofia Harrison, Ryley Bugay and Alyssha del Campo. Apparently they are still recovering from injuries sustained from previous games and in training camp and might not be available for the rest of the tournament.
Fortunately our depth allows us to overcome this losses and still remain competitive winning 2 games so far in the tournament.
Against Singapore they even fielded a very young lineup with Coach Staj giving major playing time to 3 teenagers in 17 y.o.'s Flanigan and Maniti and 18 y.o Cesar as well as 20 y.o Frilles, 21 y.o.'s Alcantara and Shelton, and 22 y.o.'s Castaneda and Hawkinson, the Philippine's very own version of Australia's U23 squad and still comfortably dominated the game.

Coach Staj is clearly rotating his players with a different lineup every game using the 3rd different goalkeeper in 3 games. Hawkinson sustained an injury early into the match so Eggesvik was subbed in.

FT: 🇲🇾 Malaysia 0-4 Philippines 🇵🇭 Eggesvik, Guillou, Quezada, Castaneda With 1 goal and 2 assists MVP is the newcomer Eggesvik who had a huge impact in this win. Dominating performance with a 25-0 stat in shots for the Philippines 11 on target. Malaysia's sure handed goalkeeper along with it's park the bus mentality kept the damage to only 4 goals conceded as the Philippines had a hard time breaking thru that mass of bodies on defence.

She said in the post game interview that she was disappointed they didn't score more goals. With 25 shots attempted and 11 on goal with some hitting the posts, I don't blame her.

FT Philippines 4-1 Indonesia
Tahnis Bolden x 3
Philippines overcame a mistake by the goalie Palacios in the first half to score 4 straight goals in the 2nd half with a hat trick by Bolden winning Women of the Match honors after the game.
As Bolden mentioned during the post game interview she could have actually scored more with a couple of near misses but she was happy with the hat trick.
This is the 3rd time within the past few months that they have come back from a deficit to win the game which shows their resilience and determination to win.

FT Thailand 1-0 Philippines
Philippines had more shots and corners but it all went for naught as Thai took advantage of a miscue from the defence to score a goal which helped them top the group and win a ticket to the semis.
The Philippines had already clinched a spot in the semis a game earlier but they needed a win to avoid facing the top seed in the other group but it wasn't meant to be.
Coach Staj elected not to start Bolden who has played a lot the past 2 games and only subbed her in with only 10 minutes to go which is a shame since they could have used her expertise with headers to take advantage of the Filipinas 12-3 advantage on corners.
I was also surprised not to see Tahnia Ahnnis in the game. She could have helped turn the tide in the later stages of the match as she did in the Indonesia game.

Apparently in the post game interview, Coach Staj was quoted as saying that she was resting Bolden and Ahnnis for the semis. Both of those players could have helped immensely in this game(particularly with the Filipinas 12-3 advantage on corner kicks) with their expertise on headers and Ahnnis excellent ability to set up corner and free kicks. Bolden was only fielded in the last 10 minutes and Ahnnis not at all.
Post game comments
“We had the chances to win and we didn’t take them and ultimately you get punished against good international opposition. We got punished for missing those 4-5 half chances and then we gifted them one as well,” lamented Filipinas mentor Alen Stajcic.
“That’s what happens in football. Sometimes that happens and we gotta bounce back next game.”
“I think the key is recovery,” said the former Central Coast Mariners coach.
“This is brutal. It’s probably the most brutal international football there is for women. To play five games in nine days in these conditions is something I’ve never seen before.
“We saw some players pass out there in the end. It’s an extremely grueling schedule. The fact that Vietnam and Myanmar have had one game and really only one tough game against each other really puts them at a big advantage.”

HT Philippines 1-0 Vietnam
Long on a header from a corner kick. Philippines had more chances and shots on goal 6-2 and could have increased their lead but Bolden wasn't able to capitalize on quite a few passes from Flanigan.

FT Philippines 4-0 Vietnam
In a match between 2 teams that have qualified to the World Cup next year, the Philippines eliminates defending champion and 32nd ranked Vietnam(a team that hasn't conceded a goal all tournament long) decisively as they make the finals of the AFF Championship for the first time.
2 more goals by Bolden giving her 7 goals total to lead the Golden Boot award and she could have scored a couple more tonight actually. She was given deservedly the Player of the Match tonight.
The Filipinas didn't let up trying to score more goals all the way to the end with a dominating performance statistically (14-6 advantage in shots and 9-2 shots on target).
